Almost 70 years ago, Flatwoods was ground zero for a visit from a creature beyond the stars....or so they say. What exactly happened that fateful night? What is the Flatwoods monster? Originally produced in 2005 this play was written, produced, and performed by the Youth Theater Project of the Landmark Studio.
Original DVD and Flatwoods Monster costume, among many other interesting and historic artifacts, are displayed at the Flatwoods Monster Museum, located at 208 Main Street in Sutton, West Virginia.

Hiking at Wilderness Park Flatwoods Trails
We day hiked at the Tampa Wilderness Trails in the Flatwoods Area. There are several different trails in this area, and hiked part of the Morris Bridge Loop. We parted at the Trout Creek parking area. The entire Morris Bridge loop is about 14 miles but we just went 5 miles out and 5 back. It look some time to find the start of the trail but once we did and actually got onto the trail, it was very shady and a nice single track trail. We will definitely go back again and do the entire Morris Bridge 14 mile loop.

McKinney Flatwoods Site in Half Moon Wildlife Management Area
This area has some historic sites such as this homestead or what remains of it. It's called the McKinney Flatwoods Site and it's deep back in the preserve. The McKinney Place, was inhabited from 1916 to 1945. I posted a link here where you can find out more history:

A preserve owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy in the pine flatwoods and savannas north of Lake Ponchartrain on Louisiana's Northshore, Abita Creek Flatwoods lies just outside Abita Springs and provides visitors with an accessible boardwalk from which to observe a variety of habitats, including a carnivorous plant bog.
