Eupen to Liège / Belgium
This little cycling adventure will take you from the handsome city of Eupen to the busy city of Liège in Belgium. The route follows some cycling RAVeL paths and small roads, crossing fields, some residential areas, old train tracks and finally it goes along the river Meuse all the way to Liège's train station. Easy or difficult ? for a non experienced rider this is certainly a full day activity that's going to make you feel your legs. For an experienced rider this is an easy morning ride.

Some of the best places to visit in Belgium include Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Charleroi, Liege, Ypres, Bastogne, Zonnebeke, Jalhay, Blegny and Aarschott.
Belgium covers an area of 30,688 km2 and has a population of more than 11.4 million.
The capital of Belgium is Brussels which has a population of around 1.8 million people.
Brussels is also the capital of the European Commission which employs upwards of 40,000 people.
Vignettes are not required for driving on the Belgium road networks however there are some toll roads.
Wild camping is illegal in Belgium, however if you want to try your luck ask the police and or local council authority.
There are still at least 30 different languages in the EU however French and Dutch are the main languages spoken in Belgium as well as some German, particularly in the east.
There are around 13 different currencies in the EU however the Euro has been the Belgian currency since around 2002.
Credit cards are accepted widely in Belgium, however, some vendors only accept Visa but not Mastercard, or vice versa.
There are different rules regarding “parking” and “camping” – many countries allow “overnight parking” as long as you don't camp there – the definition of “camping” is if you set up anything outside of your vehicle eg tables and chairs, and or BBQ, and or put up your sun awning and or position your vehicle on levelling ramps etc – then that is classified as camping.

1 Grand Place
The Grand Place (or Grote Markt) is a must-see for visitors to Brussels. Indeed, this central square is the city’s main landmark. Surrounded by the town hall and guildhalls, the square isn’t very big, as squares around the world go but the old buildings that line its sides make it very special. The Grand Place dates back to the 11th century when markets were held. Nowadays, every two years in August, an enormous “flower carpet” is set up in the Grand Place for a few days. A million colorful begonias are set up in patterns covering a large part of the square.
2 Cathedral of Saint Bavo
This majestic cathedral with its high Gothic choir and Romanesque crypt showcases the best of religious architecture in Belgium and is Ghent's most outstanding tourist attraction. Although the soaring building, with its harmonious stained glass windows, is a highlight in itself, most people come here to see the famous artwork that graces the interior; specifically the Flemish masterpiece known as The Altar of Ghent. Once you've viewed the painting though, don't miss the mammoth crypt under the cathedral, which contains important tombs and some beautiful wall paintings.
3 St. Peter's Church, Leuven
St. Peter's Church sits in the center of Leuven on the town's main square or Grote Markt. For architecture and history fans, this is one of Belgium's best preserved examples of the Brabant Gothic style, with its pointed arch windows and sheaf pillars. Inside, art-lovers will find an extra treat. The choir and the ambulatory are home to a museum dedicated to religious art, where some of the finest Flemish paintings illustrating biblical scenes are shown. In particular, the Baroque carved pulpit and Dirk Bouts' painting of the Last Supper are worth a visit.
4 Ghent's Gravensteen and Old Town
This hugely impressive fort was once the grand home of the counts of Flanders, who took their inspiration for castle-building from the bulky castles the Crusaders built in Syria. Today, Gravensteen is one of Europe's best surviving examples of a moated fortress and has been incredibly well-preserved. Its strong and impressively thick and high walls soar up from the waters of the river Lieve right in the middle of the old town of Ghent, rising above the rooftops of the surrounding streets. Inside, the vast arched halls and chambers contain exhibits of medieval life, but it's the castle's architecture itself that is the real star of the show.
5 Tournai
Adjacent to France, the quaint and lovely community of Tournai is an excellent place to tune out the hustle and bustle of larger Belgium cities. More than 2000 years of rich cultural history can be explored here, and this city is home to what is believed to be one of the most beautiful churches in the world – the five-towered Gothic and Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral. Constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries, the cathedral houses the Shrine of Our Lady and works by Ruvens and Jordaens. The town Belfry is the oldest in the country and offers visitors 257 steps to the most remarkable views in the city of Tournai.

Eupen België deel 1
Bijgaand een video van mijn bezoek aan Eupen in België, het Duitstalige gedeelte van België.
Ik had om 07.00 uur de trein van Amsterdam Sloterdijk naar Sittard, om daar over de stappen op de Arriva sprinter naar Heerlen. Daar kwam ik aan om 10 over half 10, om over te stappen in de Arriva trein richting Aken, deze doet er vanaf Heerlen een halfuur over. Daar kon ik gelijk overstappen op bus 14 richting Eupen, deze doet er een half uur over, dus om 10 voor 11 was ik daardoor in Eupen.
