8 Fascinating Places You can't MISS in the South of Dominican REPUBLIC ????????.

The southwest of the Dominican Republic is by far one of most beautiful regions in the whole country and it's still to this day the less explored side of the island due to how remote it is. Famous for its sandy beaches, crystalline waters, salty lakes, iguanas and breathtaking landscapes that will awake the inner explorer in any traveler.

There are so many attractions to choose from and I'm sure I miss a few myself but these are just the ones I was fortunate enough to visit with my family last November and feel that anyone that goes to the south has to see them.

To enjoy this trip I recommend to take about 3 to 5 days to really discover, enjoy and explore the many attractions the region has to offer.

Barahona and Pedernales are the most famous cities within the south regions and both have incredible attractions from beaches, lakes, dry forests, salty rivers, you get the idea.

Here's the 8 destinations You can't MISS in Dominican Republic:

Dunas de Baní (Dunes of Baní): Our small desert with a combination of dunes of sand between the road and the ocean. Its a national park that cost 100 pesos (about $2 US Dollars) to enter. They are located in Las Calderas Peninsula, between the cities of Matanzas, Las Calderas and Las Salinas, in the Dominican Province of Peravia.

How to get there:

Lago Enriquillo (Lake Enriquillo) is the biggest hypersaline lake in the Dominican Republic and in the Caribbean. Its waters are shared between the provinces of Bahoruco and Independencia, the latter of which borders Haiti. The lake is 40 meters below sea level. The area is hot and dry, although springs and small rivers make it very fertile in places. You can take a boat from the lake to visit Isla Cabritos which the only small island within the lake. You may see The American crocodile in its wild state floating above the salty water.

How to get there:

Parque Eólico Los Cocos (Coconut Wind Park) rises about a 40-story building, it is almost impossible to comprehend the magnitude of these wind turbines until you drive very close on the Pedernales highway. Los Cocos Wind Park is not only the largest in the Caribbean and Central America, but it is also the first in the Dominican Republic connected to the national grid. A total spectacle from driving from Barahona to Pedernales. One of the highlights of any trip to the south.

How to get there:

Playa San Rafael (San Rafael Beach) is located in Barahona province, on Barahona - Enriquillo Road. It is one of the most visited beaches in the south region of the Dominican Republic. Famous for being connected to a river where the fresh water mixes with the salty one which makes it very attractive for tourists and locals.
The beach has strong waves and current so I wouldn't recommend swimming beyond the shoreline if you're not a strong swimmer.

How to get there:

Playa Los Patos (Duck's Beach) is connected to Los Patos River which is the shortest river in the county and one of the busiest destinations in the south of the Dominican Republic. In its origins there were many ducks there and that's why it got the name. While the beach is gorgeous it's mostly used to surf since the current and waves are strong. The river water is cold and very relaxing. This spot is a most to stop by.

How to get there:

Pozos De Romeo (Romeo's Wells) is on the very road that leads to Bahia de las Águilas beach. Many tourist like to stop here on the way to or back to swim and fresh up . Los Pozos de Romeo is a crystal clear natural pool enclosed within rocks and cacti fauna.

How to get there:

Laguna De Oviedo (Oviedo's Lagoon) is 3 times saltier than the ocean and is located in the Jaragua National Park in Pedernales. Home to Iguanas, Flamingos and many other species. The surface is characterized by a milky appearance due to the concentration of minerals and plant and marine waste, the remains of algae and molluscs present in the bottom. You can take a boat tour that varies from 1 hour to 2.5 hours around the lake.

How to get there:

Bahia De Las Águilas is simply the most beautiful beach in the country. The crown jewel of the and still mostly untouched in many areas. You can see my video about it here

MAP OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

hello hello my friends. this is a map of the beautiful dominican republic. The Dominican Republic comprises the eastern five-eighths of Hispaniola, the second-largest island in the Greater Antilles, with the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. It shares the island roughly at a 2: 1 ratio with Haiti, the north-to-south border between the two countries being 376 km. To the north and north-west lie The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and to the east, across the Mona Passage, the US Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The country's area is the second largest country in the Antilles, after Cuba. The Dominican Republic's capital and largest city Santo Domingo is on the southern coast.
The Dominican Republic has four important mountain ranges. The most northerly is the Cordillera Septentrional, which extends from the northwestern coastal town of Monte Cristi, near the Haitian border, to the Samaná Peninsula in the east, running parallel to the Atlantic coast. The highest range in the Dominican Republic - indeed, in the whole of the West Indies - is the Cordillera Central. It gradually bends southwards and finishes near the town of Azua, on the Caribbean coast. In the Cordillera Central are the four highest peaks in the Caribbean: Pico Duarte, La Pelona, La Rucilla, and Pico Yaque. In the southwest corner of the country, south of the Cordillera Central, there are two other ranges: the more northerly of the two is the Sierra de Neiba, while in the south the Sierra de Bahoruco is a continuation of the Massif de la Selle in Haiti. There are other, minor mountain ranges, such as the Cordillera Oriental, Sierra Martín García, Sierra de Yamasá, and Sierra de Samaná.

Between the Central and Northern mountain ranges lies the rich and fertile Cibao valley. This major valley is home to the cities of Santiago and La Vega and most of the farming areas of the nation. Rather less productive are the semi-arid San Juan Valley, south of the Central Cordillera, and the Neiba Valley, tucked between the Sierra de Neiba and the Sierra de Bahoruco. Much of the land around the Enriquillo Basin is below sea level, with a hot, arid, desert-like environment. There are other smaller valleys in the mountains, such as the Constanza, Jarabacoa, Villa Altagracia, and Bonao valleys. thank you for listening. please subscribe for the best maps and for the love of the dominican republic. The Llano Costero del Caribe (Caribbean Coastal Plain) is the largest of the plains in the Dominican Republic. Stretching north and east of Santo Domingo, it contains many sugar plantations in the savannahs that are common there. West of Santo Domingo its width is reduced to 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) as it hugs the coast, finishing at the mouth of the Ocoa River. Another large plain is the Plena de Azua (Azua Plain), a very arid region in Azua Province. A few other small coastal plains are on the northern coast and in the Pedernales Peninsula.

Four major rivers drain the numerous mountains of the Dominican Republic. The Yaque del Norte is the longest and most important Dominican river. It carries excess water down from the Cibao Valley and empties into Monte Cristi Bay, in the northwest. Likewise, the Yuna River serves the Vega Real and empties into Samaná Bay, in the northeast. Drainage of the San Juan Valley is provided by the San Juan River, tributary of the Yaque del Sur, which empties into the Caribbean, in the south. The Artibonito is the longest river of Hispaniola and flows westward into Haiti.

There are numerous waterfalls across Dominican Republic. In the image the Salto del Limón
There are many lakes and coastal lagoons. The largest lake is Enriquillo, a salt lake at 45 metres (148 ft) below sea level, the lowest elevation in the Caribbean.[4] Other important lakes are Laguna de Rincón or Cabral, with fresh water, and Laguna de Oviedo, a lagoon with brackish water.

There are many small offshore islands and cays that form part of the Dominican territory. The two largest islands near shore are Saona, in the southeast, and Beata, in the southwest. Smaller islands include the Cayos Siete Hermanos, Isla Cabra, Cayo Jackson, Cayo Limón, Cayo Levantado, Cayo la Bocaina, Catalanita, Cayo Pisaje and Isla Alto Velo. To the north, at distances of 100–200 kilometres (62–124 mi), are three extensive, largely submerged banks, which geographically are a southeast continuation of the Bahamas: Navidad Bank, Silver Bank, and Mouchoir Bank. Navidad Bank and Silver Bank have been officially claimed by the Dominican Republic.[citation needed] Isla Cabritos lies within Lago Enriquillo.

The Dominican Republic is located near fault action in the Caribbean. In 1946, it suffered a magnitude 8.1 earthquake off the northeast coast, triggering a tsunami that killed about 1,800, mostly in coastal communities. Caribbean countries and the United States have collaborated to create tsunami warning systems and are mapping high-risk low-lying areas.

How Expensive is Punta Cana | Dominican Republic on a Budget

Whenever someone says they are going to Punta Cana or to the Dominican Republic the first thing most people think about is all-inclusive resorts. But the truth is that anyone can come here. The Dominican Republic is full of hostels where you can stay for as little as $15 to $25 for shared and even private rooms. Many hostels have a pool and include breakfast.
If you stay in a hostel usually you will meet people from all around the world and you can go to the same world-class beaches you would enjoy if you stay in an all-inclusive.

But also, Dominican Republic has so many amazing places apart from Punta Cana, such as Las Terrenas, Cabarete, Santo Domingo, Bahía de las Águilas, Cabo Rojo, Dunas de Baní,. Parque Los Haitises, Laguna de Oviedo, Los Tres Ojos, Cueva de la Virgen, Península de Samaná, San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Isla Saona, Charcos de Damajagua, Lago Enriquillo, Isla Catalina, Parque Nacional Jaragua, Cayo Levantado

TOP 10 Places TO SEE ???? DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ???? 4K Video

???? There are many more things to see and do in Dominican Republic ???? but you will find interesting and (maybe) useful things in this video, one of which would be the story from no°7 listed below:

The moment you touch a Fire Sponge (Tedania Ignis????) is one you will remember. And here's why - First symptoms will come after three hours but will disappear quick. Then when you think it was just something superficial and you can continue relaxing, the real itches, burns, stings and pains start. It lasts for three days, enough time to regret it. You will spend all this time just scratching your hand with the other and soaking it in vinegar (hoping for some relief). It will not swell but you will definitely regret owning that limb. After 3 days like centuries everything stops like a miracle but do not relax because it will come back 2 weeks later as if it's just happened. And this time it lasts for ''only'' 48 hours but now you're experienced and it won't affect you as much.
After a couple of google researches I found out I got the worst possible symptoms which makes sense because it is hard to imagine anything worse than that. Just stay away from it and if you touch it, do not squeeze it!

**⚠️ may the aquatic hiking fall on your do Now list, and not on the do know as stated !

10 Best Places in Dominican Rep. by Global Travel Corp. USA BOOK: https://gtcusa.globaltravel.com

Welcome to Dominican Republic

There's far more to the Dominican Republic than sandy beaches and rum bars, as the country also boasts a diverse array of natural landscapes, with scenery that swings between fertile farmland, forest-shrouded waterfalls, and majestic mountains. Punta Cana, the country's easternmost tip, entices travelers with idyllic beaches and luxury resorts. It's also an ideal jumping-off point for a handful of adventurous day trips, and active travelers will love the variety of recreation-based tours available. Explore off-road terrain in a dune buggy, take a catamaran cruise to Saona Island, go for a swim at El Limón Waterfall, or careen through the treetops on one of the longest ziplining circuits in the Caribbean. Tours to Catalina Island, where you can snorkel above a pristine coral reef, depart from Punta Cana, too. The island capital of Santo Domingo, home to a colonial Old Town that's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just two hours from Punta Cana. Sightseeing tours that include transportation allow visitors to hit many of its top attractions such as Calle de las Damas, Columbus Lighthouse, and Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor (Catedral Primada de América) in one day. Santo Domingo is also a logical gateway to Lago Enriquillo and Isla Cabritos National Park (inhabited by crocodiles, flamingos, and iguanas), and tours that combine both mean you don't have to choose between them.

Largo Enriquillo, Los Rios, Dominican Republic

Lake Enriquillo (Spanish: Lago Enriquillo) is a lake in the Dominican Republic and is the largest lake and lowest point in the Caribbean and the lowest point on any ocean island.[1] It is one of only a few saltwater lakes in the world inhabited by crocodiles. Lake Enriquillo is located in a rift valley formed by the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault that extends 79 miles (127 km) from Port-au-Prince Bay in Haiti in the west, to near Neiba Bay in the Dominican Republic in the east. This fault was responsible for the catastrophic 2010 Haiti earthquake.

The rift valley is a former marine strait, and was created around 1 million years ago when the water level fell and the strait was filled in by sediments of the Yaque del Sur River. The lake is 9 to 12 miles (15 to 20 km) wide. Known as the Cul-de-Sac Depression in Haiti and the Hoya de Enriquillo in the Dominican Republic, parts of the rift valley are below sea level and are covered by large salt lakes.

Lake Enriquillo covers an area of 102 square miles (265 km²) and is the lowest point in the Caribbean falling 129 feet (39 m) below sea level. Its drainage basin includes 10 minor river systems. The rivers that rise in the Neiba Mountains to the north (lower center and lower right of the image) are perennial. Those rivers that rise in the Baoruco Mountains to the south (upper center and upper left of the image) are intermittent.

Lake Enriquillo has no outlet. The lake's water level varies because of a combination of storm-driven precipitation events and the region's high evaporation rate. Salinity in the lake can vary between 33 ppt to over 100 ppt. Tremors in the region are common. Just above the right center of the image, the other large salt lake in the rift valley, Etang Saumâtre located in the country of Haiti, is visible.

The lake contains 3 islands: Isla Barbarita, Islita, and Isla Cabritos. The last one is the largest of all and contains a National Park famous for its crocodiles and flamingos. When water levels drop as a result of dry spells, the islands are usually linked to each other by sandbars.

The region has a hot, semiarid climate with an average annual rainfall of about 24 inches. Plants that thrive in arid places, like the cactus, can be found here.

Lago Enriquillo

If you’re a fan of crocodiles and iguanas, you’ll find them at Lago Enriquillo in the southwest of the Dominican Republic. Take a boat ride onto the lake to spot American crocodiles lurking beneath the waters of this giant part salt, part freshwater lake. Lago Enriquillo is also the largest lake in the Caribbean, lying at the lowest altitude in the country below sea level. Within the park’s dry forest grounds, endangered green iguanas thrive and will welcome you from the moment you enter the parking lot. You might even spot a few crossing the road..
