USAG Kwajalein Atoll - A Place Like No Other || Aerial Highlights

USAG-KA is located in the Marshall Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. While being key for US national security, its remoteness and location allow for many unique times in your not-so-typical 9-5pm job. Please enjoy some of the memories that I have collected over the past couple years while living on this amazing two-mile-long piece of coral.

All drone shots of Kwaj were taken before the Army drone ban (pre-summer 2017).

MARSHALL ISLANDS HAVE A HOLIDAY THAT MAKES SENSE!

Join me and the Delap SDA fam as we prepare for and celebrate Manit Day 2019 at the school. Preparation started as early as weeks before for some classes and went all the way up until midnight the night before as they practiced their dances, dances, and decorated their classrooms. This holiday was way different than anything you will ever experience in the states!

Manit Day is a holiday that celebrates the cultures and customs of the Marshall Islands. Students are encouraged to prepare cultural dances, songs, foods, and handicrafts for the celebration of the holiday and their island culture.

Marshallese Sailing: Tacking 2

This is the second part of how to tack a Marshallese sailing canoe. If you haven't already seen it, watch the first video first:

You can also read about what's going on in that link on that page.
The wind was going pretty hard that day, making it tricky, especially for an intermediate. This is why it takes so long. A better sailor or a less windy day can result in this operation taking less than 10 seconds.
If you want to do this and you are in the Marshall Islands, look up WAM, near the MIR. You can go out sailing for $20, and the money keeps the vocational program going. DO IT. Everyone I took out loved it and was very happy I insisted. And there's not much else to do...

Sailing, Pacific Atoll and Plastic EP79

Pacific PARADISE and a PLASTIC problem.
This week we explore the underwater world of Ailuk lagoon and have a beach walk around one of the small islets in the lagoon. We are horrified by how much fishing gear, plastic and rubbish washes up on the windward side of the atoll. A sad reminder of the ever increasing global plastic problem.
Mark's Birthday is a great excuse for another beach picnic and sundowners.

????‍❤️‍????About us :
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You wont find any fishing footage on this channel!
Subscribe now and join us as we continue our salty travels around the world.

The World’s 13 Most Dangerous Islands You Never Want to Visit

Many people think if they spend enough money that they can remain safe everywhere. It is normal to want to travel to unknown destinations, especially if they are exotic. Today we are going to discuss locations that bring dangerous gases, animals, or water conditions.

Pacific Voyagers arrive in Rarotonga

- The Cook Islands vaka Marumaru Atua led four of the fleet of seven traditional voyaging canoes into Avatiu Harbour on Thursday 17 May 2012. Beginning in 2010 the fleet has travelled the Pacific Ocean from New Zealand, where the vaka were built, to the Cook Islands, French Polynesia, Hawaii, across to the California coast of the USA, down the coasts of Mexico and Costa Rica, to the Galapagos Islands, back to Tahiti and most recently making landfall in Aitutaki before coing to Rarotonga. A huge crowd turned out to meet the sailors who have been spreading an environmental message as they travelled.

MAPPED The most dangerous islands in the WORLD with crocodiles and nuclear wastelands

MAPPED The most dangerous islands in the WORLD - with crocodiles and nuclear wastelands.Whilst a deserted island may seem like a safe space to be in the current climate, they may not be the best place to hide from the threats in the world.Instead of beautiful beaches and calm forests, some islands should never be ventured to by humans. The most dangerous islands in the world have been revealed, where people who have tried to step a foot on have been killed in some of the most terrifying of ways.Ilha da Queimada, BrazilAlso known as snake island, Ilha da Queimada is just off the coast of Sao Paulo. The threat on the island is in the title, with dangerous and venomous snakes overrunning the island and a lack of antidotes available for those who are bitten. There are also many Golden LanceHead Vipers on the island, with five reportedly every square foot.Bikini Atoll, Marshall IslandA large domed structure can be seen on this island, part of the Enewetak Atoll. This was put into place by the US government after nuclear tests took place underneath it.The radiation caused by this not only means it is uninhabitable but also caused the evacuation of locals who were in the area.Ramree Island, BurmaA terrifying story that emerged from Ramree Island took place during World War II when British troops forced Japanese soldiers into the mangrove rainforest. With 1,000 soldiers pushed back, only 500 escaped which was rumoured to be due to the huge saltwater crocodiles hiding in the area, who then ate and killed half of the men.Whilst modern historians refute the story, the huge amount of deaths by crocodile is still in the Guinness World record book.North Sentinel Island, IndiaThe island has one of the last indigenous tribes that have no contact with the outside world, still using primitive bows and spears. This also means that those who dare go near are often attacked or kills, with two fishermen who strayed too close to the island falling victim.No-one is able to land in the Bay of Bengal island due to this with helicopters even fired at when over land.Reunion Island, Indian OceanJust 150km from Mauritius, this dangerous island has banned all people from swimming in the ocean. The water hides an unusually high amount of sharks preying in it that have been the cause of a high number of shark attacks.Following the deaths of many people, the ban came into effect for swimmers and surfers since 2013.

Beautiful Maitu/Somes Island - Wellington Must Do Ferry Ride to Island NZ 2023

The largest of three islands in Wellington Harbour's northern section is Matiu/Somes Island. Prior to 1995, it served as a location for animal quarantine as well as military and quarantine internments.

Take the ferry from Queen’s Wharf which will cost around $12 NZD and entrance to Somes island is free.
However please take food and drinks with you since you’ll not be able find those.
We advise spending at least two to three hours exploring because the vistas are unmatched and not to be missed from any of the island's simple walking trails.
Note: Protect the environment and do not litter on this beautiful landscape ????

Enjoy the video and let us know what you think about the video and this walk.

Thank you,
