5 Most Dangerous Cities in the UK

What are the most dangerous cities to live in the United Kingdom? Ranking the United Kingdom as the 116th most dangerous country is not bad at all. That means the country is safer than, at least, 115 others in the world. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, it experienced 600 homicides as just one of the crimes reported that year. A total of 6.1 crimes were reported during that year. Out of these, 2 million were crimes against another person. If there were 67 million people in the UK during that year, the crime rate would be a whole 2,985 crimes per 100,000 people. However, it’s not everywhere in the UK that is dangerous. In this video, we will discuss those currently rated as the 5 most dangerous cities in the United Kingdom.
5. Nottingham
This city with links to the Robin Hood legend and which is famous for lacemaking and the tobacco industry is incidentally here. If we go by its population of 337,100, Nottingham that’s playing host to the headquarters of a number of major international businesses including Boots, E. On Energy, Pedigree Petfoods, and Gala Bingo, is the 14th largest city in the UK.
It’s the most dangerous major city in Nottinghamshire. Out of the 236 cities, towns, and villages in Nottinghamshire, it’s among the 20 most dangerous overall. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Nottingham was 114 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 49 percent higher than the crime rate in Nottinghamshire with a rate of 76 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Nottingham with 14,210 offenses during 2021, producing a crime rate of 45 per 1,000.
In 2020, a total of 34,228 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 108 per 1,000. In 2019, 42,113 were committed with a rate of 133. The year 2018 witnessed 41,970 crimes with a rate of 133. In 2017, the crime rate was 119 with 37,753 crimes. And in 2106, the total crime was 30,097 with a rate of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.
In December 2021, Nottingham was the most dangerous city for bicycle theft, with 52 crimes reported. That month was also a bad month for the city’s residents as it was the most dangerous area in Nottinghamshire for burglary while 110 of these crimes were committed. The city recorded 321 criminal damages and arsons still during December 2021.
4. Birmingham
We just have to agree with the inclusion of Birmingham on this list. This is a city with a population of about 1.1 million with an urban area having just over 2.6 million residents and a metropolitan area with a population of 3.5 million. Birmingham, despite having a coveted reputation as the first manufacturing city in the world some 200 to 150 years ago, is currently one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
As the most dangerous major city in the West Midlands, Birmingham is among the 10 most dangerous overall out of the 44 cities, towns, and villages in the West Midlands. In 2021, the overall crime rate in this city was 137 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 17 percent higher than the West Midlands’ overall crime rate of 118 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Birmingham during 2021 when some 78,062 of these crimes were committed. That was a rate of 67 per 1,000 and was 38 percent higher than the 2020's figure.
Consider also the historical crime rate for Birmingham, not just what it had in 2021, and form your opinion. In 2020, a total of 123,271 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 106 per 1,000. In 2019, 120,832 were committed with a rate of 104 per 1,000 residents. The city in 2018 witnessed 114,605 crimes with a rate of 99. In 2017, the crime rate was 89 while 103,319 crimes took place. And in 2106, the total crime was 90,930 while at the rate of 78 crimes per 1,000 people.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Discover Scotlands southern coast. Dumfries and Galloway

Discover Southerness in Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland.

Southerness Lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland unusually is mostly square, the lighthouse overlooks the Solway Firth, with views to the south of the Lake District. built in 1749 to assist the passage of ships through the Firth towards the Nith Estuary. The route would once have been busy with goods coming from Liverpool and Ireland. Renovated in 1805 by the famous engineer Robert Stevenson it remained in use until 1936 and is now open to visitors during the summer

Not far from Southerness is Powillimount beach which belongs to the Arbigland Estate but is free to visit

head along the beach to the west a little and you come to the impressive Thirlstane Arch a natural feature formed in a ridge of sandstone

the rocks that are visible on the shore were formed during the carboniferous period 340 million years ago when the earth's climate was wet and warm,.the layers built up formed into sandstones, limestones and mudstones, The folds and ridges that have formed amazing patterns and are fascinating. there are a lot of fossils in the area which makes it a great place to bring kids on a hunt. One for the school holidays maybe.

be careful as the tides here sweep in fast

Places to see in ( Hucknall - UK )

Places to see in ( Hucknall - UK )

Hucknall, formerly known as Hucknall Torkard, is a town in Nottinghamshire, England, in the district of Ashfield. The town was historically a centre for framework knitting and then for mining, but is now a focus for other industries as well as providing housing for workers in Nottingham.

The town is notable as the site where Rolls-Royce made the first demonstration of a vertical take-off plane. It is also the final resting place of Lord Byron and his estranged daughter, the mathematician and pioneer computer programmer Ada Lovelace.

Hucknall is 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Nottingham on the west bank of the Leen Valley, on land which rises from the Trent Valley in the south to the hills of the county north of Kirkby-in-Ashfield. The Whyburn or 'Town Brook' flows through the town centre, and Farleys Brook marks its southern boundary.

The town’s highest point is Long Hill, (although Beauvale estate has a higher elevation and is situated at the base of Leivers Hill, commonly mistaken for Misk Hill) at 460 ft (140 m) above sea-level, with views over the city and Trent Valley, which descends to between 22 and 24 metres AOD, flowing just beyond most of the city centre.

The town is surrounded by farmland or parkland. To the north-west lie Misk Hills and Annesley. To the north-east town are the villages of Linby and Papplewick beyond these two is Newstead Abbey and its grounds, once the residence of Lord Byron. To the west lies Eastwood, birthplace of D. H. Lawrence, and the inspiration for many of his novels. To the east of the town is Bestwood Country Park.

The contiguous settlements of Butler's Hill and Westville often appear as distinct entities on maps, but are generally regarded as part of Hucknall, and are part of its historic and present-day Church of England parish, although the town itself has no civil parish council, however the identity is reinforced by being part of the post town and by being shared wards of Hucknall.

Hucknall was once a thriving market town. Its focal point is the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene, next to the town’s market square. The church was built by the Anglo-Saxons and completed after the Norman Conquest, though much of it has been restored during the Victorian era. The medieval church consisted only of a chancel, nave, north aisle and tower but it was considerably enlarged in the Victorian period. In 1872 the south aisle was added and in 1887 the unusually long transepts, while the rest of the building apart from the tower was thoroughly restored.

The town is the northern terminus for the Nottingham Express Transit tram system as well as sharing a station on the Robin Hood Line. There is also a stop at Butler's Hill/Broomhill. The town used to be on the A611 but this has now bypassed the town to the west with a single-carriageway road with roundabouts, with access to junction 27 of the M1, some 3 miles away. The tram line was built from 2002–2004 and currently runs from Hucknall to the Station Street terminus next to Nottingham railway station.

( Hucknall - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Hucknall . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Hucknall - UK

CHESTERFIELD | The most underrated town in the UK?

CHESTERFIELD | The most underrated town in the UK?
Gimbal Walk TV visits Chesterfield, Derbyshire - a town with a crooked spire close to Sheffield and Derby, to see if this really is the most underrated UK town.

Chesterfield is a town we have visited before and we have decided to travel back to this market town close to Sheffield and see what's here and what the town has to offer.

Best known for the church with the crooked spire, Chesterfield is a town that I think has so much more to offer whether that's the magnificent town hall, the old historic buildings scattered throughout the town, the winding wheel theatre, the shops, the pubs, the market and market hall and more.

The thing I find with Chesterfield is that if you mention it to locals, many of them will have a bit of a moan about the town centre, and people from outside the town will tell me that they don't really know that much about the place. Chesterfield is perhaps best known for the crooked spire of its Church of Saint Mary and All Saints and is why the local football team is known as The Spireites.

So let's have a walking tour around Chesterfield Town Centre and take a look at what's here, and what Chesterfield has within it's town centre.

Visit Chesterfield for a great day out or to stay. Brilliantly located in the centre of the UK with superb road, rail and air links, the town is famous for its 800 year-old open air market and the unique and unusual 'Crooked Spire' Church.

Whether it's a town or village experience, contemporary or traditional housing, buying or renting, living in Chesterfield and the surrounding area is affordable and offers something for everyone. With friendly and welcoming communities it's a safe place to live and bring up a family.

Chesterfield is in The Midlands and Sheffield is in the North. If you travel from Chesterfield to Sheffield on the dual carriageway there is a brow on the hill where the watershed divides either north or south.

Chesterfield in Derbyshire is a town of great character with a history of significance way beyond our immediate area.

Chesterfield has a fabulous offer for businesses, residents and visitors alike. Chesterfield is far more than a historic market town in Derbyshire with an iconic Crooked Spire.

Chesterfield is a market town and unparished area in the Borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, 24 miles north of Derby and 11 miles south of Sheffield at the confluence of the River Rother and River Hipper.

#Llanberis: A Must-Visit Destination in #Snowdonia National Park

Explore Llanberis in Gwynedd a jewel of Snowdonia

Nestled at the bottom of Snowden, Llanberis has so much to offer. We were only here for a day for my daughter to complete some work for a college assignment, so this is a whistle stop tour of some of the main attractions.

The historic Dolbadarn Castle built in the 13th century by the Welsh Prince Llywelyn at the base of the Llanberis pass. Important as a symbol of power as well as militarily. Considered to be the finest surviving Welsh round tower.

Llyn Peris, like its larger neighbour Llyn Padarn was formed by glacial action and is now the lower reservoir of the Electric mountains water system

Hidden Deep in the mountain is the Hydroelectric power station with the main generator and turbine housed in a massive manmade chamber

Llyn Padarn and the country park are a fantastic place for paddle boarding and kayaking, or just have a walk along one of the trails from Padarn country park.

Within Padarn country park is the Slate Museum which helps to tell the story of the 3000 men who would have once worked the quarries.

The scars of the slate industry are clear to see in the welsh mountains this is Vivian quarry, now home to a diving centre though currently closed due to a land slide.

These narrow-gauge trains run along a 5-mile return trip from Llanberis onto the old slate railway route along the bank of Lake Padarn. Hauled by steam locomotives rescued from the Dinorwic Slate

The miners' hospital, built in 1860 and was one of the first building in the area to have hot and cold running water and electricity. The hospital was maintained by a sick club paid into by the Miners.

If you don't fancy the walk up the summit of Snowden there's always the train, and if you are lucky it will be a heritage steam train. Though for 2022 the train is only going to Clogwyn station ¾s of the way up.

Forgotten History: Visiting St Patrick's Chapel Heysham

An explore of the amazing St Peters church yard, St Patricks chapel and the stone carved graves in Heysham Lancashire.
The Spirit of Heysham, giving a few clues to what can be found nearby.
St Peters church, Heysham. In Lancashire. Predominantly dating from the 14th and 15th century. The site has been in use for much longer it seems.
At the entrance to the church yard stands this stone shaft, the remains of a stone cross, dating to around the 8th or 9th century.
Imagine the effort and skill it would take, to carve a stone coffin with nothing but hand tools.
Inside the church lies a Norse hog back grave covering, which dates to 1000AD, unfortunately the church was locked but this image shows the stone.
The west door of the church, which is blocked up, dates back to Saxon times
Legend has it that St Patrick was shipwrecked off Heysham and built a chapel on the cliff above the church.
Whatever the truth, there are the remains of a chapel bearing Patricks name on the cliff beyond the church dating back some sources say to the 5th century when it was built of timber, subsequently being rebuilt in the 8th century in stone and then again in the 10th century, it is certainly one of the earliest Christian sites in the northwest of England.
Excavations in the area have uncovered burials dating to the 10th and 11th centuries, with one female having been found with a Viking period antler comb. An early Christian grave with links back to pagan grave goods.
These artists impressions from the information board give an idea of how the site may have once looked.
To the west of the chapel are these fascinating rock carved graves, which once featured on a best of Black Sabbath album cover. Wonder what the old inhabitants would have thought of that.
5 of the 6 six have sockets to the head end which are thought to have housed crosses.
What a spot to pay respects to the dead
These graves are the only ones of their kind in the UK and without comparisons they can't really be dated, as the contents and covers have long since gone, so radiocarbon dating is not possible, they are generally thought to be pre Norman conquest.
Some sources suggest they may have been used for disarticulated bones as reliquaries rather than for burials and could have made the chapel a place for pilgrimage.
2 more stone cut graves lie to the south east of the chapel, were these for a parent and child, with one cross or grave marker in the carved socket?
Who were these early Christians who put great effort into carving out these graves?

What happened to the Solway Viaduct?

Lets take a look at some Abandoned railway engineering.
You join us on the southern bank of the Solway firth on what was once the western end of Hadrian's wall, and the edge of the roman empire, lets take a look at the remains of something quite remarkable. Lying across the Firth is Scotland and to the north the furnaces of Lanarkshire. On the English side the iron ore mines of Cumberland. So how to join the 2 without the detour through Carlisle 10 miles or so to the east? A viaduct of course, and the birth of the Solway Junction railway.

Medieval ruins of Lammerside #Castle - #Cumbria

Lammerside Castle medieval ruins in Cumbria, Britain.

Originally built in the 12th century then later
rebuilt and strengthened as a Pele tower in the 14th century to provide protection against scottish raiders.

Once  occupied by a branch of the Wharton family, the castle is thought to have been abandoned in the 17th century, after the family moved to the fortified manor, Wharton Hall, near to Kirkby Stephen.

I had to make 2 visits as the first was very very windy as you may see from the camera blowing a bit, and flying the drone was out of the question. It was breezy on the second attempt but managed to get a flight in.
Hope you enjoy.

Explore a stunning Castle built on sheer cliffs

An explore of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe near Noss Head, Wick and on the NC500.

Fate had a hand in this video.

We have been through the Wick area on several occasions but never really stopped to look around. After my Wife badly twisted her ankle earlier in the week....... Nurses make the worst patients, er herm......., a visit to Caithness general hospital in Wick was thrust upon us. Thank fully nothing broken but walking any distance was out the question.

As the day was getting on we travelled the short distance to Noss head and discovered the ruins of Castle Sinclair Girnigoe. I got some Drone footage in the evening light, thats further along in the video. The following morning was a windy one so no more flying but I had a good walk around this amazing castle ruin.

There are plenty of signs around the ruins with artists impressions of how it all used to be

The castle was built and modified by the Sinclair earls of Caithness who were one of Northern Scotlands most powerful families. Building from the 14th century right into the 17th century.

It was once thought that the site comprised of 2 castles, though excavations and research have  concluded that it was in fact one fortress which has been added to and modified along the way resulting in what is left today.

A later dispute over the Earl of Caithness title culminated in George Sinclair and a group of men to strip the castle of furniture doors, roofs and floors.
The wrecked castle passed in to the Dunbar around 1700 but was never restored.

Consolidation work is ongoing to stop the remains tumbling into the sea.

The castle walls almost seamlessly join the cliff

Parts of the castle ruin almost mirror the rugged sea stacks.
