10 Best Places to Visit in Scotland - Travel Video

Check out all the places seen in this video:

At first glance, the Scottish landscape is harsh: foreboding fortresses atop hills and cliffs, the desolate moors… But spend some time here and you’ll quickly realize Scotland has its own unique beauty: breathtaking highlands just made for hiking and strolling, craggy coastlines, monuments that are proud reminders of long-ago battles, and blue lakes just made for fishing. Scotland is a land of legends and romance, from Robert the Bruce and Macbeth to lake monsters and the tragic Mary Queen of Scots. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Scotland:

Dunoon, Argyll & Bute, Scotland - Drive Through, Sandbank - Dunoon - Sandbank

Dunoon is the main town on the Cowal peninsula in the south of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is located on the western shore of the upper Firth of Clyde, to the south of the Holy Loch and to the north of Innellan. As well as forming part of the council area of Argyll and Bute.

The early history of Dunoon often revolves around two feuding clans: the Lamonts and the Campbells. Dunoon was a popular destination when travel by steamships was common around the Firth of Clyde; Glaswegians described this as going doon the watter. This diminished, and many holidaymakers started to go elsewhere as roads and railways improved and the popularity of overseas travel increased.

In 1961, during the height of the Cold War, Dunoon became a garrison town to the United States Navy. In 1992, shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, they closed their Holy Loch base in Sandbank, and neighbouring Dunoon suffered an economic downturn. Since the base's closure, the town and surrounding area are again turning to tourism, marketing to outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife lovers, as well as promoting festivals and competitions. The largest annual event held in the town is the Cowal Highland Gathering, which has been held since 1894. The Royal National Mòd has been also been held in the town.

Dunoon Castle was built on a small, partly artificial, conical hill beside the Firth of Clyde in the 12th century, of which low walls remain. It eventually became a royal castle with the Earls of Argyll (Campbells) as hereditary keepers, paying a nominal rent of a single red rose to the sovereign. Mary, Queen of Scots visited Dunoon Castle on 26 July 1563 and granted several charters during her visit.
In 1646 the Dunoon massacre of members of Clan Lamont by members of Clan Campbell took place. The castle was destroyed during Argyll's Rising, a rebellion in 1685 against James VII.

Visiting Dunoon!

The town of Dunoon (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Omhain) can be found on the Cowal peninsula in the south of Argyll and Bute, on the western shores of the upper Firth of Clyde.
The town was a popular tourist destination during the age of steamships which used to sail around the Firth of Clyde and became a garrison town to the United States Navy who had a base at the nearby Holy Loch from 1961 until 1992.
The Cowal Highland Gathering is an annual event held in the town and in 2018 The Royal National Mòd was held in the town, which has been held here seven times before.
The Gantocks Rocks can be found off the coast nearby and local wildlife includes seals, sea otters, dolphins, basking sharks, roe deer, red deer, red squirrels, and many species of birds.

Our visit Glasgow travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Scottish and International), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting distilleries, breweries, churches and museums and Glasgow by night for pubs and entertainment. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Glasgow tourism brochure, Glasgow itinerary or Glasgow, Scotland city tour.

20 Things to do in Glasgow, Scotland travel guide video transcript:

In today’s video we’re going to be showing you around Glasgow, Scotland. This is a city that we visited last autumn and then again this summer, and on both visits, we ate like kings and queens because it turns out, Glasgow is a great destination for foodies.

Since we never got around to making a travel guide on our first visit, today we’re going to be combining the footage from both of those trips to show you some of the best things to do in Glasgow and also some of the best places to eat and drink it. So let’s get started!

And that’s a wrap for our visit to Glasgow, Scotland. We loved our two visits and we’d gladly return for a 3rd. This is an amazing city for foodies and there are so many great bars, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries to visit.

Also FYI - if you’re already visiting Edinburgh, Glasgow is just a short 50-minute train ride away, and it’s a city with its own unique vibe.

If there are any other fun things to do in Glasgow that you’d like to share with travellers, feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels!

This is part of our Travel in Scotland video series showcasing Scottish food, Scottish culture and Scottish cuisine.

VISITING ARGYLL & BUTE, SCOTLAND ◆ UK TRAVEL VLOG ◆ Castle Stalker + 1st Time Shopping At Morrison's

[Filmed November 7, 2020]

In my opinion, this vlog is when we started tiptoeing our way into becoming (temporary) Highlanders.

Today, you’ll watch us start to settle into our new life and routines for our month-long stay in the Scottish Highlands.

Specifically, we explore the northern part of the nearby Argyll and Bute council, where we visit the Old Inn for tea in Appin, followed by gawking at the BEAUTIFUL Castle Stalker across the loch.

Then, we take our first trip to the UK supermarket of Morrison’s! It was probably the closest grocery store that we visited that reminded us of shopping at Kroger/Mariano’s.

Hope you enjoy following along!

Cheers, and happy travels!

Places to see in ( Helensburgh - UK )

Places to see in ( Helensburgh - UK )

Helensburgh is a town within the Helensburgh and Lomond Area of Argyll and Bute Council, Scotland. Helensburgh also has its own Community Council. ntil local government reorganisation in 1996 Helensburgh was in Dumbarton District and hence also in Strathclyde Region; prior to 1975 it was a small burgh with its own town council within Dunbartonshire. In the Middle Ages it was within the Earldom of Lennox, an area sometimes referred to as The Lennox. It lies on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde and the mouth of the Gareloch is close to the western boundary of the town.

Helensburgh is 25 miles (40 km) north-west of Glasgow. The town faces south towards Greenock across the Firth of Clyde, which is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) wide at this point. Ocean-going ships can call at Greenock, but the shore at Helensburgh is very shallow, although to the west of the town the Gareloch is deep.

Helensburgh lies at the western mainland end of the Highland Boundary Fault. This means that the hills to the north of Helensburgh lie in the Highlands, whereas the land to the south of Helensburgh is in the Lowlands or Central Belt of Scotland. Consequently, there is a wide variety of landscape in the surrounding area – for example, Loch Lomond (part of Scotland's first National Park) is only 4 miles (6.4 km) over the hill to the north-east of Helensburgh. Although the Highland Boundary Fault is not geologically active, very minor earthquakes do occur occasionally in the area.

Helensburgh is an attractive small seaside town set in beautiful scenery - as the picture looking west from the pier shows. Because of its setting Helensburgh has for long been considered to have some of Scotland's highest house prices. Indeed, in a 2006 survey, Helensburgh was shown to be the second most expensive town in which to buy property in Scotland. The older parts of the town are laid out in the gridiron pattern, Helensburgh being an early example of a planned town in Scotland. The character of the town is further enhanced by its many tree-lined streets, and the cherry blossom in the Spring is a particular feature; a consequence is that the town has been referred to as the Garden City of the Clyde.

After the arrival of the railway many attractive villas were built in Helensburgh as the homes of wealthy business people from Glasgow. As a result of this Helensburgh has two Conservation Areas. The smaller of these is The Hill House Conservation Area, based on the masterpiece of architecture by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and built for the publisher Walter Blackie.

The town is served by three railway stations. The principal one is Helensburgh Central, the terminus of the North Clyde Line and Craigendoran at the east end of the town is on the same line. Helensburgh Upper is on the West Highland Line; trains from here go to Fort William, Mallaig and Oban while, in the opposite direction, the Caledonian Sleeper provides a direct train service to London. There is also a bus service to Glasgow, as well as local bus services within the town and to the Vale of Leven and to Carrick Castle.

( Helensburgh - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Helensburgh . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Helensburgh - UK

Castle Gardens, Dunoon, Scotland.

A walk round Castle Gardens, Dunoon, Scotland.
This is my first walking tour video. After the intro music, there is only street sound and seagulls. No narrative.
In this video, I am walking from The Boathouse (Cosy Corner) on West Bay, past the Victorian Pier, across to Castle House Museum and up to the top of Castle Hill.
Coming back down, we look at the rear of Dunoon Primary, down Tattie Brae past the new Queen's Hall, and then back to the Rock Cafe.

After a week of brilliant sunshine and blue skies, the ending of my COVID isolation, which allowed me to complete this video, coincided with the first rain for over a week!

I am sure we will get some videos in the sun at some point soon!

Hopefully this will give people a flavour of how the place looks and feels now.
And as I say in the closing slide - I am sure that my videos will get better!

Thank you for watching!

Dunoon Hunters Quay Ferry Terminal, Scotland

Took a ferry from Glasgow (Gourock McInroy's Point Ferry Terminal) to Dunoon. This was a first time ferry trip for myself, so I thought I'd pop my drone up and grab some footage of the ferry docked at the quay and some of the beautiful surrounds. We popped into the Marine hotel, just across the road, for a drink or two and then headed back to Glasgow.

Rain started falling at the end of the video, so I had to make a quick landing of things. :)
