VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC, CANADA | 10 INCREDIBLE places to visit on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island combines large forests, rugged landscapes, rocky mountain peaks, and mysterious coastlines. After living in this beautiful place for a combined 10 years, we’ll break down the 10 MOST INCREDIBLE places you have to visit on Vancouver Island (footage accumulated over the years):

10. Cameron Lake & Cathedral Grove
These are located near each other in central Vancouver Island, sitting between Parksville and Port Alberni. Cameron lake is a tranquil spot on the island with many other natural attractions in the area. Witness the old-growth giant trees at Cathedral Grove and more.

9. Goldstream Provincial Park
Located right outside of Victoria, Goldstream Provincial Park is a great spot for hiking, camping and connecting with nature. Explore the beautiful “Niagara” waterfall or do a challenging hike to the neighboring peak of Mount Finlayson.

❗NOTE: Goldstream Trestle has now been CLOSED to the public

8. Victoria
Sitting on the southern end, Victoria is the most popular and accessible destination on Vancouver Island. Within a 20-minute driving radius of the city, there are tons of things to do in Victoria. You can choose to explore the British colonial Downtown on foot, take a tour to the magnificent Butchart Gardens, see the stunning Hatley Castle, or explore the wildlife on a whale watching tour.

☑️ Book Whale Watching Tour:

7. Port Renfrew
The fishing village of Port Renfrew is another place you cannot miss on Vancouver Island! Also called Wild Renfrew, this area is known for its ancient rainforest, world-class hiking trails, and its stunning beaches.

6. Cowichan Valley
Cowichan Valley is another unique place to visit on Vancouver Island. Activities to enjoy here include hiking or biking Mount Tzouhalem, sipping wine at one of the idyllic vineyards, exploring the largest totem pole collection in Duncan, and seeing the sea lions in Cowichan Bay.

5. Lake Cowichan
Lake Cowichan is another amazing travel destination worth mentioning on its own. This freshwater lake is about 30 km or 18.6mi long and sits to the west of Duncan, in the Cowichan Valley.

4. Shawnigan Lake
Located about 40km north of Victoria at the southern edge of the Cowichan Valley, Shawnigan Lake is a popular place to vacation. The lake is 7km long and great for fishing, swimming, and sunbathing in the summer. But what we like the most in this area is hiking.

❗NOTE: The Quarry has now been CLOSED to the public

3. Sombrio & Mystic Beach
Mystic Beach has a beautiful waterfall that Cascades into the ocean, whereas Sombrio Beach has the best vibe for beach camping. Sombrio is a popular weekend getaway with friends or family during the summer and also offers some hidden waterfalls of its own.

2. Tofino & Ucluelet
Tofino and Ucluelet are both great destinations to get away and relax in nature on Vancouver Island! There is amazing hiking and surfing, and you will find the sandiest beaches on the island here! Our top pick of beaches include Cox Bay, Mackenzie Beach, Chesterman Beach, Long Beach, and Wickaninnish.

1. Strathcona Provincial Park
Located in the heart of the island, Strathcona Provincial Park has the purest nature, richest wildlife and most breathtaking scenery on all of Vancouver Island. Our top picks in the park include Landslide Lake, Myra Falls, and Cream Lake.

Duncan BC

This was one day spent in Duncan BC. We had to return our bikes to Cycle Therapy in #Duncan and decided to go on the free tour of the town with the guide from the museum. We were totally blown away. This tour is free, provided by the Duncan Tourist Board and it is absolutely a must do.
The lovely lady running the tour, let's call her Gladys, explained the history of the #TotemPoles and the meaning of each symbol - eagles, bears and whales. This brought everything to life and really enhanced our knowledge of the indigenous tribes.
Grabbed a coffee in a really trendy cafe and then headed out to find a quiet location to have lunch and much to our surprise we found the most beautiful, tranquil and scenic river you could imagine - #CowichanRiver.

British Columbia adventure to the top of the mountains

Looking for breathtaking scenery in British Columbia? The Buchanan Lookout on Duncan Lake is the perfect place to go!

When you need to escape from the hustle of everyday life, Duncan Lake offers impressive hiking, stunning views and plenty of wildlife. This getaway is perfect to put you back in touch with nature.

It will put things into perspective and really show you the big picture. Find out why this is our creator’s favourite place to go to getaway!

Buying Story
The west Kootnies features some of the most serene landscapes imaginable. Duncan Lake is about two hours from Nelson, British Columbia; once the tree-line opens up and you see the undisturbed landscape, you know that the trip was worth it. The water level fluctuates about 10 feet over the year, so each time you visit it’s a whole new experience.

Highlighted Key Features

Many trails to hike on.
Off-roading in a truck, mountain bike, or dirt bike is an option.
It’s okay to go swimming, but don’t forget the water is glacier fed, so it’s super cold.
If you drive up the mountain, you can take a two-hour hike in a Grizzly preserve where you’re immersed in a beautiful mountain landscape.

Favourite Thing

Going on the Buchanan Lookout gives you a scale of the Selkirk mountains, with the Kokanee Range on the south side of the Kelso river and the goat Range on the Northside. Words can not describe the beauty of this lookout.

If you love nature, the Buchanan Lookout is a must-see.

Check out more destinations and reviews here;

10 Best Road Trips In Canada | Best Scenic Drive In Canada | Best Things To Do In Canada |

10 Best Road Trips In Canada | Best Scenic Drive In Canada:-

So I have a wonderful an Experience of No-5 Tobermory to Manitoulin Island in last summer 2019.

1- Alberta: Icefields Parkway (aka Highway 93) :-
The Icefields Parkway (aka Highway 93) connects Banff and Jasper National Park — and is famous for its gorgeous views and sweet drives. Moraine Lake offers road-trippers Instagram-worthy photos and you're sure to spot wildlife roaming around.

2- British Columbia: Nanaimo to Tofino:-
If you're on the mainland, you'll need to grab the ferry to Nanaimo but once you're back on land, hit the Pacific Rim Highway for a gorgeous, twisty drive through ancient temperate rainforests with mountains and the coastline as the backdrop. And don't worry about packing your surfboard; you can rent them there.

3- Alberta: Calgary to Lake Louise:-
If you can time it just right, you can catch some of the Stampede before embarking on your trip to Lake Louise. Take the time to roam the area, go on a gondola ride and luxuriate in Banff Springs. Keep in mind, you might need close to a week for this relaxing trip.

4- Nova Scotia: Cabot Trail to Sydney:-
The curves of the picturesque coastal highway will wow you and if possible, reserve a tee time at Cabot Links, the country's first true links course.

5-Ontario: Tobermory to Manitoulin Island:-
This is a road trip you'll want to pull over for. Enjoy fishing villages and local eats before boarding a ferry to Manitoulin Island. Lift your foot off the petal and take in the wonders of the water during the two hour ferry before arriving at the largest fresh water island in the world.

6- Quebec: Montreal to Quebec City:-
It's up to you whether you want to make this an efficient highway drive or a relaxed road trip through historic towns, lush wineries and quaint shopping districts.

7- Ontario: Windsor to Stratford:-
Whether it's a day trip or a weekend getaway to catch a play, the charming town with its historic inns and scenic river is a great place to escape the real world.

8- British Columbia: Vancouver to Whistler:-
The Sea to Sky Highway will take your breath away, but make sure you stop in the logging town of Squamish before hitting the ski village.

9- Prince Edward Island: Points East Coastal Drive:-
Not exactly a lengthy jaunt but that doesn't make it any less stunning (you might not believe you're in Canada). The unforgettable dune system at Greenwich in PEI National Park to the lighthouses to the gorgeous beaches, the only thing that'll distract you are the eagles and seals that might come into view.

10- Alberta: Calgary to Drumheller:-
The short drive to the hoodoos, which were formed almost 75 million years ago, are a sight to behold.
