Places to see in ( Barnsley - UK )

Places to see in ( Barnsley - UK )

Barnsley is a large town in South Yorkshire, England, located halfway between Leeds and Sheffield. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town centre lies on the west bank of the Dearne Valley.

Barnsley is surrounded by several smaller settlements which together form the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, of which Barnsley is the largest and its administrative centre. The town is accessed from junctions 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 motorway and has a railway station on the Hallam and Penistone Lines. Barnsley F.C. is the local football club.

Barnsley is a former industrial town centred on coal mining and glassmaking. Although both industries declined in the 20th century, Barnsley's culture is rooted in its industrial heritage and it has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs by its mining communities. It is also home of the Barnsley chop.

Divisions and suburbs of Barnsley are :

Ardsley, Athersley, Carlton, Cundy Cross, Gawber, Honeywell, Kendray, Kingstone, Lundwood, Monk Bretton, New Lodge, Oakwell, Old Town, Pogmoor, Smithies, Stairfoot, Worsbrough (includes Worsbrough Bridge, Worsbrough Common, Worsbrough Dale, Worsbrough Village and Ward Green), Wilthorpe, Dodworth, Mapplewell, Staincross, Royston, Wombwell, Hoyland, Elsecar, Kexbrough, Cudworth.

The main transport hub is Barnsley Interchange, a combined rail and busstation that was opened on Sunday 20 May 2007, and was the first project in the remaking Barnsley scheme to be completed. Stagecoach Yorkshire run most bus services within Barnsley, operating to and from Barnsley Interchange. Barnsley is also served by:

Dodworth railway station west of the town centre, which is a stop on the Penistone Line, and has one platform.
Darton railway station however, is on the Hallam Line, has two platforms and is in the north of Barnsley.
Goldthorpe railway station and has two platforms (east of Barnsley). The line is on the Wakefield Line and has no service to the above stations or Barnsley Interchange.
Thurnscoe railway station and has two platforms (east of Barnsley). The station is on the Wakefield Line and has no service to any Barnsley station other than Goldthorpe.
The nearest airport is Robin Hood Airport approximately 26 miles (42 km) away.

The WORST Place to Live in the UK? | BARNSLEY

Is this the worst place to live in the UK? In today's tour, we visit Barnsley. Barnsley was named one of the worst places to live in England in 2022. My intention isn't to offend anyone who is living in Barnsley, I wanted to see for myself why this town is considered to be one of the worst places to live in England and form my own opinion.

Today January 2nd, 2021 Saturday, it was Sunny in the morning. Suddenly at about 1:30 PM, it started snowing heavily. I took this opportunity to drive around Barnsley in snow and icy weather. It was not too bad to drive on the main street but very slippery in small roads.

After driving for about 10 minutes, snow falls heavily and my camera was covered with snow and I could not see through.

I hope that you all enjoy my channel. Please, rest assured that I read all of your comments, therefore please, comment and leave your feedback, as it indeed helps me to understand what you like the most and what I can do better!

Views from a drive from Cookridge in North West Leeds to Brampton in South East Barnsley, West & South Yorkshire, England - 13th August, 2016.

I have recently invested in a Veho Muvi K2 Camera (an action / sports cam, which looks and acts like a Go-Pro for half the price). Along with the camera I purchased a suction windscreen mount, in order to experiment with the type of films that I would be able to make I have made several driving films, and this is the first of them.

The footage has been edited in iMovie on an iPad Pro and speeded up four times, the film has been dubbed with some looped audio footage that was taken along the M621.

Along the way, the following street names, roads and locations are identified: Cookridge, Leeds, Moseley Wood Crescent, Moseley Wood Walk, Green Lane, Wood Hill Road, Tinshill Road, Station Road, Horsforth, Troy Road, Low Lane, Horsforth Woodside Roundabout, Hawksworth Road, Abbey Road, A65, Kirkstall, Kirkstall Road, Burley, LS3, A58, Wellington Road, Armley Gyratory, Holbeck, Ingram Distributor, Junction 2 M621, M621, Hunslet, Stourton, Rothwell, M1, Robin Hood, Lofthouse, Wakefield, Lawns, Carr Gate, Kirkhamgate, Ossett, Horbury, Durkar, Crigglestone, Woolley Edge, Haigh, Barnsley, Kexborough, Barugh Green, Higham, Dodworth, Worsborough, Birdwell, Tankersley Roundabout, Birdwell Roundabout, Dearne Valley Parkway, A6195, Rockingham Roundabout, Hoyland, Shortwood Roundabout, Platts Common, Platts Common Roundabout, Wombwell Wood Roundabout, Roebuck Hill Roundabout, Jump, Hemmingfield Road Roundabout, Hemmingfield, Cortonwood Roundabout, Brampton, Wath Road Roundabout, Newlands Way, Meadowgate and the Premier Inn Barnsley Dearne Valley.

STAINBOROUGH: Barnsley Parish #5 of 17

I've said it before and and I will say it again, Barnsley is not all about coal mining. In fact, most of the parishes in the borough couldn't be further away from coal mining with their history. This one certainly falls into that latter category.

It might be small but this one packs a punch when it comes to history. There are two settlements here, sandwiching a castle which has been repurposed from being the home of the Earl of Strafford to being a college for residential adult education. Set in some lovely grounds with (on a clear day at least) some good views around, the whole area is loaded with historical buildings.

Take for example, the Dutch Barn, with it's tall sandstone pillars, or perhaps Steeple Lodge, a house built in the style of a church. You could even argue that the pub - the Strafford Arms - has a unique architectural feeling to it.

There's not a lot going on in the villages themselves but then, why does there need to be? This is certainly a tourist-y area of Barnsley, attracting people from all over the borough and beyond in the summer to enjoy the castle and the gardens...so during the winter, these villages are meant to be sleepy. Quiet they may be but this YouTuber likes it that way.

We're starting out ascent up into the highlands of South Yorkshire as we visit STAINBOROUGH.

My name is Andy. I am armed with a car, a GoPro and an unhealthy amount of time on my hands.

Join me as I try to visit every single parish in the borough of Barnsley. There are 17. Here's the FIFTH one - Stainborough.

Edale Station 10/9/20

Edale Station is located on the Hope Valley Line between Manchester/Stockport and Sheffield, a route that is used heavily by Passenger and Freight services due to the close proximity of several large quarries.

Local stopping services are operated by Northen Rail on a typical hourly service pattern as well as some additional stopping services by East Midlands Railway in peak times and on some odd times during the weekend, however most EMR services don't stop here, TransPennine Express also run express services along this line as part of their Cleethorpes- Manchester direct services.

Penistone to Barnsley - April 1989
