DAIGO-JI Temple in Fall| 醍醐寺| Best Spots in Kyoto for Fall Foliage| 京都の紅葉
Hello, again, everyone! Hope you're all doing well and staying warm as winter is just around the corner.
In today's video, I'm introducing Daigo-ji Temple in Fushimi Ward. It's well-known for its cherry blossoms in spring and the vibrant maple and ginkgo trees in fall. Sitting at the foot of Mt. Daigo, the entire complex is pretty huge which makes for a perfect scenic walk in any season.
But two of the well-visited areas are the Sanboin and Shimo Daigo.
Sanboin was built in 1115 and was used as the official residence of the head priest. Here you can also enjoy the famous Japanese garden designed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the once-famous samurai and feudal lord.
Shimo Daigo is where most of the famous structures and buildings are located: Golden Hall, Five-Storey Pagoda, and Bentendo to name a few. The area where the pond is is quite picturesque.
So, if ever you're in Kyoto, especially in spring or fall, don't forget to check this temple out. It's truly worth visiting!

今日の動画では、伏見区にある醍醐寺を紹介しています。 春は桜、秋はカエデやイチョウの紅葉で有名です。 醍醐山のふもとにあり、全体がとても大きく、四季折々の風光明媚な散策が楽しめます。
しかし、よく訪れるエリアの 2 つは、三宝院と下醍醐です。

Daigoji Temple, Kyoto in 4K - 醍醐寺 京都 - Japan As It Truly Is
Daigoji is one of Kyoto's finest - yet sadly overlooked by many. Its vast grounds have Sanboin, one of Kyoto's best temple gardens.
Daigoji Temple (醍醐寺) was established in 874 AD - its 5-story pagoda was built in 951 AD and is Kyoto's oldest structure. The Sanboin garden began as a sub-temple but is part of the whole today, and is widely regarded as one of Kyoto's most beautiful. Daigoji Temple is also extremely popular in late November for its autumn leaves, as well as in the spring for its cherry blossoms - though both times can be overflowing with visitors.
DaigojiTemple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Daigoji Temple is open 9 AM - 4 PM daily.
Admissions fee is ¥800 yen normally, but ¥1500 for peak times (3/20-5/15, 10/15-12/10). There is an additional fee for Upper Daigo (Kami Daigo) which is at the summit of the mountain at the rear.
Daigoji is about a 10 minute walk east of the Daigoji Subway Station.

World famous city Kyoto in Japan.Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine - this is the head shrine of Inari, located in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates.

Ryoan-ji - this is a Zen temple famous for its rock garden, considered one of the finest examples of karesansui (dry landscape) gardens in Japan.
Kennin-ji - is one of the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, notable for its large wooden hall and a number of important cultural properties, including many beautiful and important examples of calligraphy and paintings.
Daigo-ji - this is a Shingon Buddhist temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest temple in Kyoto. It is known for its beautiful cherry blossoms, autumn foliage and charming temple architecture.
It is worth noting that Kyoto is full of historical sites and places of natural beauty, there are many other temples, shrines, gardens, traditional streets and neighborhoods to explore, this list is just a small selection of what Kyoto has to offer.
Daigo ji Temple A World Heritage Site in Kyoto!
One of the main buildings in the Shimo-Daigo area is the Golden Hall (Kondo). The present Golden-hall was moved from Yuasa in Kishu (the present Wakayama Prefecture) by the order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Another famous building is the Goju-No-To Pagoda. Its construction was for the repose of the Emperor Daigo and completed in 951 at the reign of the Emperor Murakami. It is the oldest building in Kyoto.
In the Shimo-Daigo area, furthermore, there are the Seiryugu Main Hall (Honden), Soshi-hall (The Hall dedicated to Rigen-daishi), Fudo hall, Dai kodo, Nyonin Hall, and Benten Hall.

思わずため息が出る美しさでした。
常緑樹と落葉樹のハーモニーが美しく、
その中で庭石の存在感が作庭の骨格を感じさせ、
滝の音と流水がそれらの調和を生み出しています。
時折姿を見せる小動物達が、より自然を感じさせてくれます。
禅庭の対極に位置するような豪華さを感じました。
色々なお庭と見比べてみると面白さが増すと思います。
近隣には、
勧修寺
随心院などがあります。
応仁・文明の乱により、醍醐寺も多くの堂舎が焼失、三宝院もまた失われ、山内は荒廃してしまいました。
この荒廃した醍醐寺を立て直したのが、第80代の座主に当たる義演准后（ぎえんじゅごう）です。当時、義演は「金剛輪院」（こんごうりんいん）を改修し、そこに居住していました。豊臣秀吉の絶大な庇護を受けて醍醐寺を再興し、金剛輪院の建物や庭を座主の居住するに相応しい風格のものに作りかえました。その結果、金剛輪院は座主の居住する「三宝院」の名を受け継ぐこととなり、今に至っています。
醍醐寺再興の機運となる最初の契機は、慶長３年(1598年)３月15日（旧暦）に秀吉が催した有名な「醍醐の花見」です。この年の１月から３月に秀吉は何度か「金剛輪院」を訪れ、その改修を援助することに決めるとともに、実際に現地で池の形や中島の場所、石の据える場所、建物を建てる場所などを決める「縄張り」という作業を実施しました。
秀吉は、配下の３人を奉行として現地での工事を指揮するように命じ、「醍醐の花見」が終わった４月から多くの職人たちが金剛輪院の改修工事に携わることとなりました。その様子は義演准后がつけた日記に詳細に記されています。大工事のために普通の人夫だけではなく、専門の技術者も登用され、日記には「仙」、「与四郎」、「賢庭」（けんてい）といった庭師の名前が出てきます。
この金剛輪院の作庭は、慶長３年(1598年)に始まり、翌慶長４年(1599年)の秀吉の死後は義演の手で続けられ、最終的には義演の亡くなる元和10年(1624年)までの27年間に及んで行われ、この間、技量のある庭師たちが秀吉の構想と義演の指導を元に作庭に励み、とくに賢庭については慶長７年(1602年)から元和９年(1623年)までの22年間にわたって金剛輪院の作庭にたずさわり、「天下一」と賞賛されるほどの名声を築きます。
義演准后は秀吉の構想をさらに理想的な庭園に仕上げるために改良を重ね、中島には石橋、木橋、土橋がそれぞれ架けられました。また滝石組を２段から３段へとさらに高く積み上げ、給排水のための水路を設置しました。
さらにシュロやゴヨウマツなどの常緑樹を主体とした樹木を植え、花壇を作り、また池に水鳥を放つなど、義演は様々な工夫をこらしました。

岡山県 醍醐桜・津山城の桜 ( ヒーリング音楽 ) / Daigo-Zakura & Cherry Blossoms at Tsuyama Castle ( Japan )【日本の桜名所】
醍醐桜は、岡山県北西部にある一本桜（巨桜）で、樹齢は1,000年を超えるといわれます。根本周囲9.2ｍ、枝張り東西南北20ｍ、樹高18ｍで、種類はアズマヒガン（ヒガンザクラの一種）です。醍醐桜は「新日本名木100選」に選ばれていて、後醍醐天皇が1332年に隠岐に島流しにされた際、この桜を見て賞賛したという伝説が名称の由来です。
のどかな山里の中に、ただ1本だけ聳え立つ姿は、訪れた人を驚嘆させる圧倒的な迫力があります。いつまでも眺めていたくなる桜です。
津山城は、岡山県北東部に位置する城郭跡で、「日本100名城」に選定されています。現在は鶴山公園（かくざんこうえん）として、約1,000本の桜が植えられており、「日本さくら名所100選」にも選定されています。
城の遺構は、明治以降にほとんど破却されましたが、2005年に備中櫓（びっちゅうやぐら）が復元されました。江戸時代には五層の天守がそびえ立ち、櫓も多数備える壮大な城郭でしたが、天守台に立つと当時の規模を体感できます。また、天守台付近からは津山市街を一望できます。
夕陽が桜の森の中に沈んでいく光景も素晴らしく、夕暮れ後にはライトアップも実施され、幻想的な夜桜も観賞できます。

Daigo-zakura is a giant cherry tree in the northwestern part of Okayama Prefecture.The tree is said to be over 1,000 years old.The circumference of the base is 9.2 meters, the branching is 20 meters from east to west, north to south, and 18 meters high.The species is Azumahigan (a kind of higan cherry).
The Daigo cherry tree has been selected as one of the 100 best trees in Japan.The name comes from a legend that Emperor Go-Daigo admired this cherry tree when he was exiled to Oki Island in 1332.
The sight of only one cherry tree standing tall in a tranquil mountain village.It has an overwhelming power that makes visitors marvel.It is a cherry tree that makes you want to look at it forever.
Tsuyama Castle is a castle ruin located in the northeastern part of Okayama Prefecture.It has been selected as one of the 100 Great Castles of Japan.Today, 1,000 cherry trees are planted in Kakuzan Park.It has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan.

Enjoy Daigo-ji Temple with beautiful autumn leaves. The autumn leaves around Benten pond is awsome.
Daigoji Temple is located in Fushimi Ward in the southern part of Kyoto City, about 25 minutes by train from Kyoto Station. Since 8th century, Daigoji Temple has been known as the Flowers in Daigo and is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms. In addition to that, Toyotomi Hideyoshi was planed to visit Daigoji Temple for beautiful autumn leaves. So, it is also famous for autumn leaves. Please enjoy the autumn leaves of Daigoji Temple at their best.
[Memorandum for Photographers]
The autumn leaves in Benten Pond seemed to have just the right slanting rays just after the gate opened at 9:00. There are couple of photo spot near the pond, but if you have time, I think you can find various pictures by circling the pond. However, crossing the bridge requires a bit of courage (many cameras are pointed at it, so it is better to cross quickly). On the other hand, the autumn leaves near the five-story pagoda were in the shade in the morning. I thought the time near noon would be better for the light rays.
醍醐寺は京都市南部の伏見区に位置し、京都駅から電車で２５分ほどです。醍醐寺は平安時代から「花の醍醐」と呼ばれ桜の名所として知られていますが、実は豊臣秀吉はこの寺院で紅葉狩りも予定してといわれるほど紅葉の美しいところでもあります。

【撮影メモ】
弁天池の紅葉は、９時の開門直後の時間帯の光線がちょうどよい斜光のように感じました。弁天堂を正面に臨むあたりに撮影スポットがありますが、時間があるようなら池を一周まわると様々な絵に出会えるのでないかと思います。ただし、橋を渡るのは少し勇気が必要です（多くのカメラが向いていますので、ササっと渡るのがよいかと思います）。一方、五重塔周辺の紅葉は朝一番は光が回っていませんでした。こちらはお昼近い時間の方が光線の具合がよいと思いました。
