LoST | Romania Adventure 2022 - Day 7 - Oasa Monastery, Canciu Lake Dam, Rosia Montana
Day 7 of my traveling in Romania I slowly returned back to Apuseni Mountains to a small village Roșia Montană. Roșia Montană is known for its famous gold mines from Romanian times, but with very sad history, becouse the mining process involved the use of highly toxic cyanide to extract the gold from the rock.
Fortunately, my trip was focused on beauty of surounding nature, so there was no time to ruin my pleasure from Romania, despite rests of mining are still visible there. (see Day 8, where a church tower of vanish floaded Geamana village sticks out of mud lake, as a result of mining in Roșia Montană.
But, firstly, I left Transalpina at Oasa dam and went by side road 704 to Oasa Monastery. The Monastery is located at Oasa lake and it is definitely worth to visit.
Road 704 is a paralel way with Transalpina and offers various lanscape and riding in Munții Șureanu, along Canciu dam and Cugir river. If you are eperienced off-road rider you will love it, because can be pretty fast. If you prefer asphalt road, you will love brisk ride from Alba Lulia to Abrud :-).
I decided to finish a day in traditional accomodation at homestead and chose Pensiunea Sejour Casa Mountain Sanctuary in Rosia Montana (Sejour Paradise Casa Montain). I could not choose better, it is highly recomended to stay there, in the middle of nature, aside from bustle of turism ... Thank you Georgiana for nice stay :-).

Cum Arată Monumentul Eroilor din SIRIU (BZ)????????
Monumentul si Cimitirul Eroilor de la Siriu se afla situat pe raza comunei Siriu, judetul Buzau, de fapt pe un amplasament deasupra soselei DN10 Buzau-Nehoiu-Brasov - pe malul stang al lacului de acumulare Siriu. Monumentul Eroilor, sau mai exact, Monumentul “Ostasului Erou” din Siriu a fost construit intre anii 1936-1938 in cinstea ostasilor romani ai Regimentului 3 Vanatori care au murit in lupta, in anul 1916 pe dealul Soimul Siriului, pentru a opri inaintarea armatei germane. In anul 1938 a fost inaugurat Monumentul “Ostasului Erou” de catre Societatea Cultul Eroilor, in cadrul unei mari manifestari si in prezenta mai multor ofiteri supravietuitori care au participat la acele lupte. Statuia “Ostasului Erou” este confectionata din bronz, are o greutate de 3 tone si reprezinta un soldat al armatei romane in pozitie de atac, cu o pusca in mana stanga si o grenada in mana dreapta. The range stretches from the far eastern Czech Republic (3%) in the northwest through Slovakia (17%), Poland (10%), Hungary (4%), Ukraine (10%), Romania (50%) to Serbia (5%) in the south. The highest range within the Carpathians is known as the Tatra mountains in Slovakia and Poland, where the highest peaks exceed 2,600 m (8,530 ft). The second-highest range is the Southern Carpathians in Romania, where the highest peaks range between 2,500 m (8,202 ft) and 2,550 m (8,366 ft).
The divisions of the Carpathians are usually in three major sections:
Western Carpathians: Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary
Eastern Carpathians: southeastern Poland, eastern Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania
Southern Carpathians: Romania and eastern Serbia[1][2][4]
The term Outer Carpathians is frequently used to describe the northern rim of the Western and Eastern Carpathians.
The Carpathians provide habitat for the largest European populations of brown bears, wolves, chamois, and lynxes, with the highest concentration in Romania, as well as over one third of all European plant species. The mountains and their foothills also have many thermal and mineral waters, with Romania having one-third of the European total. Romania is likewise home to the second-largest surface of virgin forests in Europe after Russia, totaling 250,000 hectares (65%), most of them in the Carpathians, with the Southern Carpathians constituting Europe's largest unfragmented forest area. Deforestation rates due to illegal logging in the Carpathians are high.

Alba Iulia (German: Karlsburg or Carlsburg, formerly Weißenburg; Hungarian: Gyulafehérvár; Latin: Apulum) is a city that serves as the seat of Alba County in the west-central part of Romania. Located on the Mureș River in the historical region of Transylvania, it has a population of 63,536 (as of 2011).
Since the High Middle Ages, the city has been the seat of Transylvania's Roman Catholic diocese. Between 1541 and 1690 it was the capital of the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom and the latter Principality of Transylvania. At one point it also was a center of Eastern Orthodox Metropolitan of Transylvania with suffragan to Vad diocese.[4][5] Alba Iulia is historically important for Romanians, Hungarians, and Transylvanian Saxons. In December 2018, Alba Iulia was officially declared Capital of the Great Union of Romania.

Cat costa drumul cu masina in Grecia - varianta prin Serbia si Macedonia.
Am fost in Grecia cu masina si dupa mai multe deliberari, am ales sa merg prin Serbia si Macedonia. Este un traseu mai lung si cu mai multe vame, dar la de zi, a fost mult mai relaxant pentru ca am parcurs o mare parte din traseu pe autostrada. Va invit sa vedeti cum a decurs traseul si care au fost taxele.

Barajul Oașa, amplasat în Defileul Oașei, este obiectivul principal pentru întreaga amenajare și a intrat în funcțiune în anul 1979. Este construit din anrocamente (gneise micacee șistoase) cu mască din beton armat. Are înălțimea la coronament de 91 m, lățimea maximă la bază de 250 m (în zona taluzului), lățimea la coronament de 10 m și lungimea maximă de 300 m. Acumularea realizată, Lacul Oașa, cu un volum util de 136 mil. m3, are o suprafață de 460 ha și o lungime de aproximativ 6 km.
Barajul e o construcţie impresionantă şi cine ştie când se va mai naşte din mâinile constructorilor o astfel de bijuterie…
Pentru ridicarea debitului a fost captat şi râul Ciban, iar atunci când s-a decis ridicarea barajului a fost ales acest tip de construcție deoarece balastul din zonă prezenta un procent ridicat de mică, devenind impropriu pentru a fi folosit la prepararea betonului necesar pentru un eventual baraj arcuit.
La un an după ce s-a inaugurat Barajul Oașa a fost pusă în funcțiune centrala subterană Gâlceag, care valorifică potențialul energetic al apei din Lacul Oașa. Cu ajutorul Stației de pompare Gâlceag, acumularea de la Oașa primește apele râului Cugirul Mare, stăvilite de barajul de la Canciu. Râul Valea Frumoasei aduce în Lacul Oașa afluenții săi – Tărtărău, Curpătu, Sălanele, Smida și Valea Mare.
Barajul de la Oaşa este punctul de plecare a două trasee montane ce urcă spre Vârful Cindrel din masivul muntos cu acelaşi nume. Peisajul din jurul barajului te lasă fără cuvinte, lacul fiind unul dintre cele mai importante obiective turistice din această zonă, care impresionează turiştii prin versanţii acoperiţi cu întinse păduri de brad, care se oglindesc în apele lacului.
Ambele maluri care înconjoară lacul pot fi străbătute atât pe jos, cât şi cu maşina. Pe malul drept – Oaşa Mare – zărim Transalpina, sau Drumul Regelui, iar cel stâng poartă numele de Oaşa Mică; de aici se vede cel mai înalt pisc al Munţilor Şureanu – Vârful lui Pătru, care ajunge la o înălţime de 2.130 de metri.

În drumul nostru spre Apuseni, am trecut pe Transfăgărășan (imediat după, s-a și închis drumul, deoarece a nins). Apoi am explorat Transalpina Apusenilor, sau DJ107I, un drum plin de surprize, dar cu peisaje superbe!

Căile Ferate Române (abbreviated as CFR) is the official designation of the state railway carrier of Romania. The railway network of Romania consists of 11,380 km (7,070 mi), of which 3,971 km (2,467 mi) (34.9%) are electrified, and the total track length is 22,247 km (13,824 mi), of which 8,585 km (5,334 mi) (38.5%) are electrified. The network is significantly interconnected with other European railway networks, providing pan-European passenger and freight services. CFR as an entity has been operating since 1880, even though the first railway on current Romanian territory was opened in 1854.
CFR is divided into four autonomous companies:
CFR Călători, responsible for passenger services;
CFR Marfă, responsible for freight transport;
CFR Infrastructură, manages the infrastructure on the Romanian railway network; and
Societatea Feroviară de Turism, or SFT, which manages scenic and tourist railways.
CFR Călători, the passenger service division of CFR, operates seven types of passenger train, both on Romania's territory, with rolling stock and locomotives, or internationally, with rolling stock. Also, CFR operates international trains on Romanian territory with its own locomotives. The train types vary in terms of speed and type of rolling stock. Special (S) -- tourist trains operated on scenic routes with vintage rolling stock, numbered from S1 to S9.

The Electroputere LE 5100, otherwise known as CFR Class 40/41/42 is a family of electric locomotives (separated by 3 classes) built for the Romanian Railways (CFR) for use on the Romanian electrified network. Over 1000 Class 40s were constructed by Electroputere (EP) under ASEA license in EPs Craiova Works from 1967 to 1991.
Entering service in 1965, the Class 40 also operated on private railroads after the repeal of CFRs monopoly on rail transport. The vast majority of all the engines are still in service, as of 2020, having become an icon for the Romanian Railways.
