Quest’oggi ci troviamo nel territorio comunale di Magnano, per visitare la chiesa romanica di San Secondo. Essa è uno dei più belli ed interessanti esempi di architettura romanica del biellese. Anticamente tutto intorno ad essa vi era l’antico borgo di Magnano, poi nel XIV secolo l’abitato si spostò più alto, nell’attuale posizione del villaggio. La chiesa venne costruita forse dai Benedettini nel XI secolo.

Highlights of Siena, Siena, Tuscany, Italy
The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site and is one of the nation's most visited tourist attractions, with over 163,000 international arrivals in 2008.
Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice yearly.
0:03 - Outside the Cathedral of Siena (Duomo di Siena). The cathedral itself was originally designed and completed between 1215 and 1263 on the site of an earlier structure. It has the form of a Latin cross with a slightly projecting transept, a dome and a bell tower. The dome rises from a hexagonal base with supporting columns. The lantern atop the dome was added by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The nave is separated from the two aisles by semicircular arches. The exterior and interior are constructed of white and greenish-black marble in alternating stripes, with addition of red marble on the façade. Black and white are the symbolic colors of Siena, etiologically linked to black and white horses of the legendary city's founders, Senius and Aschius.

In the interior, the rectangular hall, divided into a nave and two aisles by two columns, contains a hexagonal baptismal font in bronze, marble and vitreous enamel, realized in 1417-1431 by the main sculptors of the time: Donatello (panel of Herod's Banquet and statues of the Faith and Hope), Lorenzo Ghiberti, Giovanni di Turino, Goro di Neroccio and Jacopo della Quercia (statue of John the Baptist and other figures).

We travelled by car from Germany to Turin where we have parked close to our starting point. From Valenza we got back to the car by train and taxi (from Turin train station to San Mauro).

The water level was low but still runnable without problems. The water level was at Torino Murrazi 0.35 m, San Sebastiano 0.95 m, Crescentino 0,85 m, Valenza -0,35 m. You can find the values here:

Aan de Italiaanse kant van het Mont Blanc-massief zijn gletsjers een belangrijke voedingsbron voor de rivier Dora Baltea.
Il Battistero di San Giovanni - Duomo di Siena
La pieve di San Giovanni Battista, affiancata dalla imponente scalinata che sale a piazza Jacopo della Quercia ove si ergono i resti del cosiddetto “Duomo Nuovo”, è stata costruita al di sotto della cattedrale senese, per opera forse del capomaestro Camaino di Crescentino, tra il secondo e il terzo decennio del XIV secolo.L’interno, diviso in tre navate con volta ogivale, è completamente affrescato e costituisce uno degli esempi più rappresentativi della pittura senese del Quattrocento. Le dodici scene riprodotte nelle volte da Lorenzo di Pietro detto il “Vecchietta” tra il 1447 e il 1450, narrano gli Articoli del Credo. Ogni vela, contenente la raffigurazione di un Articolo, è accompagnata, nell’angolo in basso a destra, da un apostolo, e in quello a sinistra da un profeta, riconoscibili grazie alle iscrizioni presenti nei cartigli che ciascun personaggio tiene in mano.l Vecchietta, conclusi gli affreschi delle volte, prosegue la decorazione nell’abside. Nell’arcone soprastante esegue l’Assunzione della Vergine in gloria di angeli; nella zona inferiore dell’abside dipinge l’Annunciazione e ai lati due scene della Passione quali la Flagellazione e l’Andata al Calvario. I tre spicchi del catino absidale sono invece affrescati da Matteo Lambertini nel 1447 e raffigurano l’Orazione nell’orto, la Crocifissione e la Pietà.
Sulla parete di fondo della navata sinistra, Benvenuto di Giovanni esegue, intorno al 1460, i Miracoli di Sant’Antonio da Padova, mentre nel 1489, Pietro di Francesco degli Orioli affresca il lunettone destro, raffigurante la Lavanda dei piedi.All’interno inoltre, in posizione centrale, si staglia il Fonte Battesimale, straordinaria opera in marmo, bronzo e smalto realizzata tra il 1417 e il 1431 dai maggiori scultori del tempo quali Giovanni di Turino, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Donatello, Jacopo della Quercia. Il Fonte è costituito da una vasca esagonale in cui si inseriscono i sei specchi in bronzo dorato raffiguranti la vita del Battista, scanditi dalle statue della virtù di cui due, Fede e Speranza, realizzate da Donatello. Fra gli episodi più rappresentativi assume un particolare rilievo il Battesimo di Gesù di Lorenzo Ghiberti del 1427, elegante e raffinata scena caratterizzata da un pittoricismo e un senso prospettico ottenuti grazie al rilievo schiacciato. Il ciclo si conclude con il celebre rilievo realizzato da Donatello nel 1427, che rappresenta il Banchetto di Erode, la scena più commovente per la drammaticità del soggetto e le qualità formali.

????Qual è secondo te la più simpatica? Conosci altre strade italiane con nomi simpatici?
1️⃣Lì c’era il Conservatorio dei SS. Clemente e Crescentino, un orfanatrofio. C’è chi sostiene che il nome della via derivi da scarpe tipo zoccoli indossate dalle orfanelle. Probabilmente si riferisce invece al fatto che purtroppo, secondo l’opinione comune, il destino di quelle ragazze - una volta uscite dall’orfanatrofio - era proprio quello che viene definito come il mestiere più antico del mondo. Io però preferisco la prima ipotesi, quella delle calzature.
2️⃣Il nome deriva dalla chiesetta dedicata in origine all’Abate Ciro. Il nome fu storpiato con Abbaciro, Appaciri, Pà cero, pà cera fino a diventare Passera. Santa Passera non è mai esistita ????. Comunque non so da te ma qui il nome allude a un’altra cosa…
3️⃣Prende il nome dall’insegna di un’antica locanda quattrocentesca.
4️⃣Prende il nome dalla stalla di un vaccaro che alla fine del XVI secolo lì vendeva il latte.
5️⃣Per via di tre “pupazzi” scolpiti sulla facciata di un’abitazione.
6️⃣Prende il nome dalle numerose botteghe di fabbricanti di cappelli che erano ubicate proprio su questa via.
7️⃣Piazza del fico prende il nome dai figulus, i fabbricanti di pentole. Secondo altri prende il nome da un albero di fico cresciuto nel cortile di un palazzo.
????Qui a Roma abbiamo anche via del babbuino, via affogalasino, via dei banchi vecchi e via dei banchi nuovi, via dei baullari, via dei giubbonari…ma sinceramente mi fanno sorridere di meno risorse a quelle che ti ho mostrato nel video.

Sur mon chemin du delta du Po (Veneto, Italia) à Chevelu (Savoie, France), je fais étape le 4 septembre 2017 à Vercelli. On ne se lasse pas de Vercelli et notamment de la Piazza Cavour au centre de laquelle trône la statue de Camillo Benso di Cavour, l'un des pères de la patrie italienne.
