We take an evening trip over the Fantastic Harringworth Viaduct to Kettering September 2020
We have been meaning to ride this train for a year or so but due to Covid it had been removed from the timetable...Now it has been reinstated.
So Rosie and I set out to travel over the fantastic 82 arch Harringworth viaduct.
You can only ride over it four times in a day from Oakham,,one train is very early,so that was out.We chose the evening one on a lovely sunny calm day,lovely!
The viaduct is 1,275 yards long it has 82 arches.It is the longest masonry built viaduct in the Country..
This was also a special section for me as I was in charge of the track between Manton jct and Glendon jct as the Ganger on the P Way.
We had four tunnels,two long ones over a mile long plus two shorter ones,plus the viaduct.
This trip was the first time I have rode over this section since I retired ten years ago.It has changed a lot,very overgrown with vegetation in places.Plus Corby has had a new station (closed when I had it) plus electrification has been put in up to Corby.
It brought back so many happy memories and some not so,we struggled with an under size gang for a few years.
Please excuse the reflections and dirty windows,just a shame we missed the sunset view from the viaduct.
If you get the chance to ride this line go for it,you will enjoy the ride.
