Corumbá is a city on the Paraguay River in southwestern Brazil. It’s a gateway to the Pantanal wetlands, home to wildlife such as jaguars and otters. The Cristo Rei do Pantanal statue has panoramic views of the city and wetlands, as do the Quinze Steps. Colonial architecture in the port area attests to the area's former importance. The Pantanal History Museum (known as Muhpan) has historical exhibits on the Pantanal.
Corumbá (Banco de Cascalho in the Tupi-Guarani language ; [ 10 ] pron. AFI : [koɾũˈba] ) is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul , Central-West Region of the country. It had, according to 2018 estimates by the IBGE, a population of 110,806 inhabitants spread over 32,259 households, being the fourth most populous municipality in Mato Grosso do Sul . It is also the 18th most populous city in the Midwest of Brazil , the 5th most populous border municipality in Brazil and the285th Brazilian municipality in terms of population, with a population density of almost 1.80 inhab/km². With an area of 64,721,719 km² (greater than that of countries such as Switzerland , Slovenia and Estonia ), in terms of area, Corumbá is the 11th largest municipality in Brazil and the largest in Mato Grosso do Sul and the Center-West Region.
It is one of the oldest preserved cities of this State considering the date of foundation of Fort Coimbra of September 13, 1775. The creation of the city of Santiago de Xerez in 1593 and the installations of Jesuit settlements of the Spanish occupation even before the fort were destroyed by Portuguese-Paulista pioneers, but with Camapuã still existing today built in 1650. And the disputes over territory between Portuguese and Spanish are at the origin of the city whose first village appeared in 1778, with the name of Vila de Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Albuquerque , founded by Sergeant Major Marcelino Rois Camponês, at the behest of the Governor of the Captaincy of Mato Grosso, Captain-GeneralLuís de Albuquerque de Mello Pereira and Cáceres . The city has always been very strategic regionally for the entry of European goods and its location, after the Albuquerque mountain range (which ends the Pantanal to the south), on the last easily navigable stretch of the Paraguay River for vessels of greater draft and on the edge of the Pantanal, which guaranteed a fast and rich growth between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century , when Amazonian rubber was also exported there. According to the IBGE, in 2014 Corumbá had a GDP of about R$3.1 billion, representing about 4% of the total wealth produced in the state and about 0.06% of the national total. As a result, the municipality ranked fourth in the state, just behind the capital , Dourados and Três Lagoas . There is oneconurbation of Corumbá with 3 more cities: Ladário , Puerto Suarez and Puerto Quijarro . Corumba: Corumbá is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, 425 km northwest of Campo Grande, the states capital. It has a population of approximately 96,000 inhabitants, and its economy is based mainly on agriculture, animal husbandry, mineral extraction, and tourism, being the gateway to the biggest wetlands of the world, the Pantanal. Corumbá International Airport connects it to many Brazilian cities and also operates some international flights. There is also another airport serving Corumbá indirectly: the Puerto Suárez International Airport, 20 km away from the center of the city of Corumbá. The city is one of the few Brazilian cities to be served by two international airports. 축사를 둘러보고 돌아오니 또 다른 농장 투어가 기다리고 있었다. 일단 전용버스를 타고 선착장을 향해 출발. 버스에서 내려와보니, 간이 선착장에2층으로 된 뗏목 같은 것이 서있다. 모터가 돌기 시작하자 느릿하게 앞으로 나아가는 2층 뗏목. 그런데 빨리 가고 싶어도 갈 수 없을 정도로 수초가 가득하다. 뗏목이 수초를 헤치며 나아간다. 이곳 판타나우는 세계 최대의 습지대로 유명하다. 약 23만 제곱킬로 미터로 영국 면적보다 넓다는 이 습지대는 지구의 콩팥으로 불리며 유네스코 세계유산으로 지정됐다. 인간의 발길이 쉽게 닿을 수 없는 곳. 깊이를 가늠할 수 없는 습지는 신비롭기만 하다. 드론에서 내려다 본 판타나우의 습지. 지금까지 단 한번도 본 적 없는 비경이 펼쳐진다. 그렇게 뗏목을 타고 습지를 돌아보길 30분. 슬슬 지루해질 무렵 안내인들이 낚시를 시작했다. 아주 단순한 대나무 낚시대. 대체 습지에서 뭐가 낚일까 궁금했다. 그때, 안내인이 작은 물고기 한 마리를 잡아 올렸다. 가까이서 보려고 했더니 안내인이 만지지 말라고 경고한다. 무슨 물고기인가 했더니 바로 피라냐! 안내인들이 피라냐 앞에 나뭇잎을 갖다 댔다. 나뭇잎을 싹둑 자르는 날카로운 이빨. 이 이빨로 낚시줄을 끊어버리는 경우도 잦다고 한다. 피라냐 고기를 먹는 사람들도 있다고 하는데, 듣자하니 맛이 썩 좋지는 않다고 한다. 이번에는 안내인이 피라냐를 손에 들고 나섰다. 건너편 나무 위의 독수리가 타깃인 모양이다. 바로 그때! 피라냐를 던지자마자 보기 좋게 채가는 독수리. 안내인이 또 한번 피라냐를 손에 들었다. 이번에는 또 뭘까? 이번에 나타난 것은 바로 황새였다. 피라냐를 낚시대에 매달아 악어에게 내밀었다. 그런데 안내인들이 악어를 약 올린다. 이번에는 먹는가 했더니 또 아니다. 결국 피라냐 한 마리를 제대로 먹은 다음 유유히 돌아간다. 손에 묻어날 듯 푸른 하늘과 초록의 자연. 판타나우의 대자연은 우리가 전혀 알지 못하는 이 땅의 아름다움과 신비로움을 가득 품고 있었다.
