COLOGNE CITY TOUR / GERMANY
This video presents a city tour of Cologne (Köln), Germany with its major city's attractions and top sights.
Located on the banks of Rhine River, North Rhine-Westphalia state, Cologne is both ancient and modern, severely damaged during the World War II, with history dating back to Roman times.
Today, Cologne is one of the most important commercial and cultural centers of Germany, home to numerous museums, galleries, arts and entertainment venues.
This video covers the following city's attractions: Cologne Cathedral (major landmark), Hohenzollern bridge, the Old town (Altstadt), Alter Markt square, City hall (Rathaus), Great St.Martin Church, major museums: Ludwig, Roman-Germanic, Wallraf-Richartz and Chocolate museum.
Rhine river, Schildergasse street (shopping area), Rudolfplatz and Aachener street (part of Belgian quarter), Opera house are also featured in the video.
Cologne Triangle building has observation deck on the top floor offering great panoramic views of the city (it was closed during my visit).
Other places not featured in this video, worth visiting in nice weather are the Botanical garden and the Zoo in the north of the city. There is also the Cable car that is a great way to see the city from above (it operates only from April-October and it was closed during my visit).

Germany is a country rich in history and culture. Some of its top attractions include the Reichstag building, the Cologne Cathedral, and the Berlin Wall. The Reichstag building is a beautiful example of German architecture, and it's home to the German parliament, the Bundestag.
The Cologne Cathedral is a stunning Gothic church that is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War, and it is now a popular spot for tourists to take photos. There are many other wonderful places to visit in Germany, and this is just a small sampling of what the country has to offer.
The first known settlers in the area of modern-day Germany were the Celts, who arrived in the region around 1000 BC. The Roman Empire eventually conquered the Celtic territory, and Germanic tribes began to settle in the area in the 4th century AD.
The Holy Roman Empire was formed in 962 AD, and would eventually become one of the most powerful empires in European history. The empire reached its height under Charlemagne, who was crowned emperor in 800 AD. However, the empire began to decline in the 10th century, and eventually fell apart in 1806.
In 1871, Germany became a united nation-state under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck. The country rapidly industrialized in the late 19th century, and became a major European power. However, Germany's ambitions led to conflict in 1914, and the country was involved in World War I.
Germany was defeated in 1918, and the Treaty of Versailles placed strict limitations on the German military. This led to growing resentment amongst the German people, and in 1933 Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power.
Under Hitler's leadership, Germany became a totalitarian state and began a program of expansionism that led to World War II. The war ended with Germany's defeat in 1945, and the country was occupied by Allied forces.
Germany began to rebuild in the 1950s and became a major economic power once again. The country was also reunited in 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Today, Germany is one of the leading nations of the European Union and is a major player on the world stage.

Heading to Europe & Not Sure What to Pack? Here are a few things that my fellow US travelers may want to avoid packing if they are traveling to Europe.
1. Baseball Caps: Europeans in general do not wear baseball caps, especially backwards. You would be better served to wear a more traditional hat. You will see an occasional NY Yankee hat, but why not buy the fancy hat you always wanted instead?
2. Athletic Wear: Europeans tend to wear athletic wear to do sports, not to wear around town. There is a trend of more athleisurewear in Europe, but it is not to the extent that there is in US.
3. Khakis: the omnipresent US male pant choice is not something you will see too often in Europe. Go for colored pants or jeans. If you want khaki like pants wear Chinos instead of Dockers. The pants you will see are a thinner cut or skinnier fit than in the US.
4. Oversized US University Sweatshirts.
5. Sport Shoes or High Heals: US sport shoes and white socks are not quite as popular in Europe as they are in the US. You may be better off with Urban Street shoes like Vans instead. Also, women should be careful with high heels as with all the cobblestone it is easy to hurt your ankles.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Cologne or Köln is a city in Germany. It is the largest city in the state of North Rhine Westphalia. The city is well known for its 12 Romanesque churches. These are some of the best places to visit in Cologne, Germany and are renowned for their architecture, history, cultural significance and interior decor. The majority of these 12 churches were built during the medieval period and many of them incurred heavy damage during the second world war. Aside from these churches, some of the best things to do in Cologne, Germany include exploring Regional History, Third Reich History, Medieval and Modern Architecture and Artworks.
Cologne was first established as a Roman Colony around 1 century CE. It was called Colonia Agrippina back then which became to Cologne in the modern age. The influence of Roman origins is quite evident in many of the things to see in Cologne. The city also flourished as a trade center between east and west Europe. You will also come across numerous religious Köln tourist attractions. This can be attributed to the city’s history as a free imperial city under the Holy Roman Empire. Aside from numerous churches, Cologne sightseeing also includes art museums and galleries featuring an extensive collection of religious exhibits such as paintings, murals, statues, altars, sculptures, reliefs, artifacts and so on.
In post middle ages, the city was occupied by French, British and Prussian forces. These have not significantly contributed to the best places to visit in Köln. The city was a major center for operations of the Third Reich and there are quite a few places to see in Cologne travel concerning the history of the Nazi party and the Gestapo. The city was heavily bombed during the second world war which led to an almost total evacuation. You will notice minor traces of restoration when you visit Cologne attractions.

Cologne, a 2,000-year-old city spanning the Rhine River in western Germany, is the region’s cultural hub. Cologne is the largest city in the German federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-largest city in Germany (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich). Cologne is located within the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, one of the major European metropolitan areas, and with more than ten million inhabitants, the largest in Germany. Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine River, less than eighty kilometres from Belgium. The city's famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln) is one of Europe's oldest and largest universities.
Cologne is a major cultural centre for the Rhineland; it hosts more than thirty museums and hundreds of galleries. Exhibitions range from local ancient Roman archeological sites to contemporary graphics and sculpture. The Cologne Trade Fair hosts a number of trade shows such as Art Cologne, imm Cologne, Gamescom, and the Photokina.
Road building had been a major issue in the 1920s under the leadership of mayor Konrad Adenauer. The first German limited access road was constructed after 1929 between Cologne and Bonn. Cologne has a railway service with Deutsche Bahn InterCity and ICE-trains stopping at Köln Hauptbahnhof (Cologne Main Station), Köln Messe/Deutz and Cologne/Bonn Airport. ICE and TGV Thalys high-speed trains link Cologne with Amsterdam, Brussels (in 1h47, 9 departures/day) and Paris (in 3h14, 6 departures/day). Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (Ports and Goods traffic Cologne, HGK) is one of the largest operators of inland ports in Germany. Ports include Köln-Deutz, Köln-Godorf, and Köln-Niehl I and II. Cologne's international airport is Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN). It is also called Konrad Adenauer Airport after Germany's first post-war Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who was born in the city and was mayor of Cologne from 1917 until 1933.
