How To Travel Around London and Buy an Oyster Card - Important Tips!

Here are some very important tips on how to travel around London and buy an oyster card.
Especially if it is your first time visiting London, if you aren't careful you can end up paying a lot more for your travel so it's important you pay the right fare. You can use your oyster card or contactless payment card for lots of different types of transport on London TFL services. This includes buses, trains, tubes, Thames Clipper boats, trams and even the Emirates Airline cable cars.
My favourite thing to do is to travel on the old Number 15 routemaster buses. A real icon of London. I'll show you all the tips and tricks on how to behave like a true Londoner and not to be barged out of the way by the locals when travelling on transport in London.
There are other ways to pay for London Transport including Apple Pay on your iphone or with a contactless credit or debit card. But I think it's easiest to get an oyster card when you first arrive. Try to avoid buying paper tickets because they cost more!! And the buses don't accept money so you must have an oyster or credit card or apple pay.

Chorleywood - Least Used Metropolitan Line Station

We're counting down the least used stations line by line on the London Underground, this time to the Metropolitan and the quaintness that is Chorleywood.

You can download the Entry & Exit figures for all Tube Stations here: (although, it will obviously spoil the series for you if you look ahead at the figures!)

Note: The Waterloo & City Line won't be done, as it's only two two stations and it's figures are ridiculously high, because the stations are Waterloo and Bank.

There's scope though to do 'Least Used...' on the Overground, DLR and Trams.

A Walk Around The Lancashire Market Town

End of the Line No.1 - Amersham

Welcome to Amersham station! In Zone 9 at the end of the Metropolitan line, we kick off here in this new series, ticking off all the stations at the ends of the lines on Tube Map. What's there? What's the station like? What quirky and interesting facts are there, and if you've not been yourself - will this inspire you to go to make a trip yourself!

Also: Fares zones existed since the 1980's, it's just that they didn't first appear on the Tube Map until 2001.

There's some great photos showing the inside of Amersham signal cabin here:

Chess Valley | Chorleywood to Chesham walk | Hiking in uk for beginners

The Chess Valley, one of the most beautiful and tranquil parts of the Chiltern Hills, yet never more than a couple of kilometres from the Metropolitan Line.

The walk dips in and out of the valley, with a number of fine panoramic views.

Main walk: 16 km (9.9 miles)

The Chess Valley is one of the most beautiful and tranquil parts of the Chiltern Hills – which makes it all the more amazing that along its whole length it is never more than a couple of kilometres from the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground. This walk explores it thoroughly, starting in Chorleywood, whose station and common already have a very rural feel, and afterwards dipping in and out of the valley, with a number of fine panoramic views.

Rickmansworth - Three Rivers District - Hertfordshire - Churchstreet - High Street WD3 1JB

Subscribe please and leave a comment. I spent half a day exploring the area from Amersham all the way to here. I loved it but this has to be my favourite place. It's beautiful and charming, everything about it.

Was there once a halt on the Metropolitan Line between Chorleywood and Rickmansworth?

Was there once a halt on the Metropolitan Line between Chorleywood and Rickmansworth?

John Saunders Gilliat who lived at The Cedars in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire requests his one private halt on the Metropolitan Line as it was built through his estate. Did he ever get it? This video investigates!

Here's a like to one of the local history websites where the halt is mentioned!
