1 Day as a Tourist in Maldon, Essex, England | UK Travel Vlog

Welcome all to my brand new UK Travel vlog, 1 Day as a Tourist in Maldon!

Join me as I explore the nooks and crannies of this fantastic Essex Town, from the brilliant locals to the rich history.

Starting at the old Maldon Railway I take you on a journey uncovering the history of the great battle of Maldon between the Saxons and the Vikings. From there I accost some local ladies down a back street to talk about the famous Fat Man of Maldon and show you where he is buried. After popping in to the brilliant woof and co I take you around Hythe Quay and Promenade park for a museum tour and to meet some proper Maldon characters!

Let's Go!

And here's some information on our sponsor for this video, Woof and Co:

At Woof & Co. we try to be different from your regular pet store and believe dogs should be fed high quality food. After all they are family members and as much as we all love a fast food takeaway occasionally, you wouldn’t feed your child it everyday, so why should your dog be any different? We stock a wide range of natural, healthy treats, from our popular sausage bites to hairy deer legs. Products like our sausage bites are sold loose by weight so you can try as many or as little as you want and all of our other natural treats are sold individually so you can create your own tasty selection for your dog.

We love having dogs come in store and visit us and customers are welcome to try on any of our trendy coats, collars and harnesses on their dog.

We’re open 7 days a week and you can purchase online too on our website.

Why not make a day out of it to come visit us with so many high street shops and food establishments being dog friendly and the beautiful Maldon Promenade is a fun place to go for both children and dogs.

Places to see in ( Blockley - UK )

Blockley is a village, civil parish and ecclesiastical parish in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England, about 3 miles northwest of Moreton-in-Marsh. Until 1931 Blockley was an exclave of Worcestershire. The civil and ecclesiastical parish boundaries are roughly coterminous, and include the hamlets of Draycott, Paxford and Aston Magna, the residential development at Northwick and the deserted hamlets of Upton and Upper Ditchford.

Blockley village is on Blockley Brook, a tributary of Knee Brook. Knee Brook forms the northeastern boundary of the parish and is a tributary of the River Stour. In AD 855 King Burgred of Mercia granted a monastery at Blockley to Ealhhun, Bishop of Worcester for the price of 300 solidi. In 1086 the Domesday Book recorded that the Bishop of Worcester held an estate of 38 hides at Blockley.

The Church of England parish church of St. Peter and St. Paul is late Norman, built in about 1180. The ecclesiastical parish now forms part of the Vale and Cotswold Edge team of Church of England churches, with the Team Vicar remaining responsible for Blockley and its outlying villages of Paxford, Draycott and Aston Magna, as well as the parish of Bourton-on-the-Hill.

The Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway, built between 1845 and 1851, passes through the parish. Blockley railway station was more than 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northeast of the village and nearer to Paxford. British Railways closed Blockley railway station in 1966 but the railway remains open as part of the Cotswold Line. The nearest railway station still open is Moreton-in-Marsh. Blockley is home to Watsonian Squire, the largest UK manufacturer of sidecars and trailers for motorbikes. It has been based in the village since 1984.

Blockley has two public houses. The Crown Inn and Hotel is a former coaching inn. The Great Western Arms belongs to the Hook Norton Brewery. and The post office closed in 2007. In May 2008, under a co-operative agreement, the village residents opened a new local not for profit store.

( Blockley - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Blockley . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Blockley - UK

1 Day as a Tourist in Witham, Essex, England | Uk Travel Vlog

In this UK Travel Vlog '1 day as a tourist in Witham' I explore the Town of Witham in Essex within the district of Braintree in Essex.

Starting from the church I make my way through the town, then through the stunning river walk where I managed to accost a few locals to have a chin wag with. After a laugh at the skate park with a couple of local lads I return to the town to uncover some history and a tragic event involving a grenade which took place at a house next to the war memorial in WW1.

My trip to Witham ends with an incredible meal at Spanish Restaurant, El Pulpo and a Gin & Tonic at the fabulously quirky, Charlies Cocktail Bar.

Enjoy!

Best Essex Walks - White Notley Circular Walk - Essex Way

In this short 5 mile leisurely walk, with two other day trippers we walk a circular walk through beautiful countryside. We stop at Fairstead Church where I capture some DJI Mini 2 drone footage of the magnificent tower. We had a lot of fun and even secretly refer to some popular song lyrics. Can you find them? Please don’t get the wrong end of the stick. This walk was a trial test of the Essex Way which we will do in stages over coming weeks. It is a great walk to try easy to park and walk the loop through very quiet Essex countryside.

Link to walk we tried to follow but talked too much:

Saffron Walden Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Essex, and around 12 miles south, and slightly east, of Cambridge is the town of Saffron Walden.

Originally the town's name was, simply, Walden - deriving from Old English for 'valley of the Britons'. In 1141, during the reign of King Stephen, a market charter was granted to Walden. Around this same period, a castle was built here. Its construction was ordered by Geoffrey de Mandeville II, 1st Earl of Essex, and was part of a series of castles built to reinforce his power in the region in the face of the civil war known as The Anarchy. This was fought between the supporters of King Stephen and those of Empress Matilda - Stephen's cousin and rival claimant to the throne. The castle is believed to have been slighted by orders of Henry II in the 1150s in the aftermath of the civil war.

By 1328 the town had become known as Chipping Walden, with the 'chipping' prefix deriving from an Old English word for market, as seen in Chipping Norton, Chipping Ongar etc. The 'saffron' prefix dates from the Tudor period, and was formalised in 1514 in a charter granted by Henry VIII. It was around this time that the saffron crocus was grown in the area and the saffron trade was at its peak.

At the heart of the town is St Mary's Church. This dates back to the 13th century, although the nave and tower were rebuilt in the 15th century. It is the largest parish church in Essex. Other notable buildings in the town include the Cross Keys Hotel from the Elizabethan era (first seen just after the 10-minute mark), and the Old Sun Inn dating back to the 14th century, renowned for its pargeting, i.e. external decorative plasterwork (seen just after the 15-minute mark).

In 1865 a railway station opened in Saffron Walden. This formed part of Saffron Walden Railway, which was a branch line between Audley End and Bartlow. The line connected the West Anglia Main Line from London to Cambridge with the Stour Valley Line from Marks Tey to Shelford (which has since been axed north of Sudbury). The station closed in 1964 as part of the Beeching Cuts - a controversial move to promote road travel by closing over 2,000 stations across Britain. The nearest station today is Audley End. Signage at the station displays it as 'Audley End for Saffron Walden', as the town centre is two miles away, so walking from there is an option. Alternatively there are regular buses from not only the station, but also nearby settlements including Cambridge, Haverhill and Thaxted among others.

St Peter's Way: Chipping Ongar To Margaretting 4 September 2015

The St. Peter's Way is a 45 mile long distance footpath running between Chipping Ongar and the ancient chapel of St. Peter On The Wall at Bradwell on Sea Essex. This walk is the 10.5 mile section of the path from Chipping Ongar to where it joins the old A12 road at Margaretting. The walk goes through the lovely village of Blackmore. The walk took place in cloudy, but dry, weather (despite the forecast of showers) on Friday 4 September 2015.

St Andrews, Greenstead, Ongar, Essex

The oldest Saxon/wooden church in the world.
The brickwork is Tudor. The walls of the nave are the original panelling dating to before 1060 AD
Probably the loveliest church I have ever visited.

Balloon Flight from Chipping Ongar

This video records my first balloon flight, from Chipping Ongar (about 16 miles from where I live in Barkingside), early Monday morning on the 2nd April 2012. It was an amazing experience, well worth the money (a special offer at £80), and the wait (3 previous bookings between August and November last year, were cancelled due to unsuitable weather).

It also served me as a practical science lesson in the material and buoyant nature of the atmosphere. Although I know, from learning about it, that it does, the idea that air has weight has always seemed counter-intuitive to me and I'm filled with admiration for those early scientists who realised that it does have weight.

The balloon lifted us into the air, because the air inside of it was reduced in weight by more than what us 12 passengers and the basket (which, together with the burners and 4 bottles of propane gas, was quite heavy itself) weighed. This reduction in weight was brought about by heating it up, so that it expanded, forcing some of it (more than the combined weight of people and basket) out of the bottom of the balloon. Thus, being overall less dense than the surrounding air, we rose through it, buoyant in the fluid of Earth's atmosphere . . . Amazing!

BUNGAY CASTLE | SUFFOLK

Our third and final castle that myself and Candice explored one weekend is Bungay castle in the lovely village of Bungay in Suffolk near the border with Norfolk.

I accidentally deleted all the footage from that weekend, leaving only the photos and my voice overs, but hopefully it is still an enjoyable and informative watch! This wouldn't of happened too Sir Tony Robinson lol I had a Baldrick moment, so apologies!

St Peters Way - Part 2: Margaretting to Bicknacre

The St Peters Way is a 40 mile long distance trail beginning at the small town of Chipping Ongar and heads east to the coast at Bradwell-on-Sea. The trail passes through many beautiful Essex villages before reaching the historic Chapel of St Peter on the Wall which dates back to Saxon times and built on the site of the Roman Fort 'Othona'.

Part 2 of this wonderful trail follows the route from Margaretting to Bicknacre.

Distance: 20.03km
Ascent: 135m
Duration: 4 Hours 55 Minutes
