Cheadle is a suburban village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Cheshire, it borders Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green and Cheadle Heath in Stockport, and East Didsbury in Manchester.

The village is first recorded in the Domesday Book under the name Cedde, which comes from the Celtic word for wood. It was held by Gamel, a free Saxon under Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester; it was about three miles long and half as wide, containing both wooded and open land, with areas enclosed for hunting purposes. This early manor occupied the approximate areas of both modern day Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme.

Moseley Old Hall, an early Stuart mansion dating from 1666 is still standing and is owned privately. It is situated at the end of a blocked-off public road, making hard to find and therefore quite unheard of. Abney Hall is a late Victorian hall from 1847 and is the old Cheadle town hall, though is now used for offices. It is surrounded by parkland which is open to the public all year round and features some of the only wetlands left in Stockport. Cheadle grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution when it was used as a stopping point for travellers and merchants on their way to central Manchester.

Cheadle is a suburban village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester. Cheadle is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) from Stockport town centre and 8 miles (13 km) from Manchester Town Hall.It is close to Manchester Airport. Cheadle lies on the Cheshire Plain in the final meander of the Ladybrook, (Micklebrook) before its abfluence into the River Mersey to the north. Cheadle is on the A560 road from Stockport to Chester and borders onto the A34 Manchester to Birmingham road. Its geology is boulder clay and gravels: the parkland of Abney Hall to the north is on the flood plain of the Mersey.

Cheadle's public transport is now confined to buses operated by several firms. However, from 1866 until 1964, the locality was served by a Cheshire Lines Committee railway station (initially called Cheadle, and from 1950 Cheadle North) situated 600 yards (550 m) north of the village on the west side of Manchester Road and from 1866 until 1917 by Cheadle LNWR a London & North Western Railway station located next to the railway overbridge near the centre of the village. Both stations were on lines leading from Altrincham to Stockport.

Cheadle no longer has its own railway station, though there are stations in several neighbouring vicinities. Gatley railway station is approximately one mile west of Cheadle village, and the neighbouring areas of East Didsbury (within the City of Manchester's boundaries), Cheadle Hulme and Heald Green all have stations themselves. Cheadle is accessed by junctions 2 and 3 of the M60 Manchester orbital motorway. It is approximately 4 miles from Manchester Airport.

Historically in Cheshire, it borders Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green and Cheadle Heath in Stockport, and East Didsbury in Manchester. There has been human occupation in the area that is now Cheadle since prehistoric times. The earliest evidence of civilisation is of burial mounds dating from the iron age, belonging to Celts who occupied Britain. Later, the area was occupied by Brigantes, whose activity was discovered in the form of axe fragments.

We visit Stockport near Manchester for a walk around Stockport Town Centre to see the city streets, shops, bars, restaurants and people to check out the things to see in Stockport.
Also watch Whitby ????????

Stockport is a town in Greater Manchester, England. Situated just 7 miles south-east of Manchester CIty Centre, Stockport is fast becoming a cool place to be so we went to the town centre to see what it's really like.

This is the first Gimbal Walk TV walking tour around the town so it would be good to get your comments and feedback to tell us if we should return!

In addition to city centre treasures, Stockport has many beautiful walks and gorgeous scenery, with 14 nature reserves to choose from including one of England's first country parks, the 32 acre Etherow Country Park, alongside other notable reserves including Abney Hall Park, Mersey Vale Nature Park and Reddish Vale

Is Stockport in Manchester or Cheshire?
Most of the borough, including the historic town of Stockport, lies in the historic county of Cheshire, but it includes an area west of the River Tame and north of the River Mersey in the historic county of Lancashire.

Stockport was famous for hat production and Stockport exported over 6 million hats around the world, meaning that there was a little bit of Stockport in so many cities and countries.

Stockport's position as one of the most affluent areas of Greater Manchester, alongside Trafford and Bury, is bolstered by relatively quick access to areas of Cheshire and Derbyshire, and significant train links through Stockport and Cheadle Hulme towards Manchester city centre.

Stockport is a borough situated South-East of Manchester city centre consisting of Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Marple, Bredbury, Reddish, Woodley and Romiley. The borough was made famous in the 19th Century as the home of the nation’s hatting industry, which history is celebrated in the Hat Works, the UK’s only dedicated hatting museum.

Stockport’s architecture is enriched with history. The borough is home to over 380 listed buildings, 6 ancient monuments and one of the most iconic viaducts in the UK, and offers visitors opportunity to visit several medieval and Tudor halls, notably Peel Hall in Heaton Moor and Bramall Hall in Bramall. The Plaza, the UK’s only remaining super cinema and variety theatre, stands out in its Art Deco stylings, and Stockport Viaduct is a predominant landmark of Stockport and has been featured in many LS Lowry paintings.

Culturally, Stockport has a brilliant range of spots to visit, from Staircase House, that’ll take you on a trip through the 14th to the 20th century, to Stockport’s Air Raid Shelters, originally opened in 1939, and built to provide shelter for up to 3,850 people.

In addition to city centre treasures, Stockport has many beautiful walks and gorgeous scenery, with 14 nature reserves to choose from including one of England’s first country parks, the 32 acre Etherow Country Park, alongside other notable reserves including Abney Hall Park, Mersey Vale Nature Park and Reddish Vale Country Park.

When it comes to shopping, Stockport town has plenty to offer, from the high street stores of Merseyway Shopping Centre and The Peel Hall centre, to the independent wares of the Stockport Market Place, which offers over 50 business selling everything from beer to buttons and the Cheadle Makers Market, which brings together finest food, drink, art and craft producers in the area. Speaking of food and drink, Stockport has plenty of offerings for all tastes, including the unique, menu-less Where The Light Gets In, plus opportunity to visit the historic Robinsons Brewery for a tour and beer tastings.

Stockport has fantastic transport links to the Manchester City Centre meaning a day out in this historic borough is a perfect location to visit.

Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. map of North West England

North West England is one of the best and most popular of nine official regions of England and consists of the administrative counties of #1 ranked Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. The North West had a population of 7,052,000 in 2011. It is the third-most-populated region in the United Kingdom, after the South East and Greater London. The largest settlements are Manchester and Liverpool. North West England is bounded to the east by the Pennines and to the west by the Irish Sea. The region extends from the Scottish Borders in the north to the West Midlands region in the south. To its southwest is North Wales. Amongst the better known of the North West's physiographical features are the Lake District and the Cheshire Plain. The highest point in North West England (and the highest peak in England) is Scafell Pike, Cumbria, at a height of 3,209 feet (978 m).

Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, while Broad Crag Tarn on Broad Crag is England's highest lake. Wast Water is England's deepest lake, being 74 metres deep.

A mix of rural and urban landscape, two large conurbations, centred on Liverpool and Manchester, occupy much of the south of the region. The north of the region, comprising Cumbria and northern Lancashire, is largely rural, as is the far south which encompasses parts of the Cheshire Plain and Peak District.

The region includes parts of three National parks (all of the Lake District, and small parts of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales) and three areas of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (all of Arnside and Silverdale and the Solway Coast, and almost all of the Forest of Bowland The North West is generally regarded as having the most average weather in the UK. Temperatures are generally close to the national average. Cumbria usually experiences the most severe weather, with high precipitation in the mountainous regions of the Lake District and Pennines. In winter, the most severe weather occurs in the more exposed and elevated areas of the North West, once again mainly the Lake District and Pennine areas.

Parts of the North West experienced a White Christmas in 2009, and again in 2010, where sleet and snow fell on December 25.

The A635 was closed for almost a month in January 2010 due to high amounts of snowfall.
