Although Beijing has a lot to offer as a city, but all the tall buildings, the traffic, and the people can be overwhelming at times. That's why it is so nice that you can be in nature within 1 to 2 hours. I needed to escape the city for a bit and decided to visit Longqing Gorge (龙庆峡) in Yanqing district, Beijing.
Join me on this day trip where we take a boat, hike, and take a cable car.

Trekking Four Sisters in 4K: Part 1, Changping Valley in Sichuan

It is my 41st Birthday and I got to get out of Covid lockdown to hike this beautiful peak.

Find out everything you need to know about hiking in Four Sisters, from trekking distances, trail conditions, and how and where to start this epic hike! Also enjoy the amazing 4K drone shots and the reflections on hiking in Sichuan.

Mount Siguniang (Chinese: 四姑娘山 aka Four Sisters Mountain) is the highest mountain of the Qionglai Mountains in Western China. It is located in the bordering area of Rilong Town, Xiaojin County and Wenchuan County in Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

Mount Siguniang is renowned for its beauty. Mount Siguniang National Park was identified as a UNESCO Heritage Site as part of the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries in 2006. The park comprises Mount Siguniang and the surrounding three valleys, namely Changping Valley (长坪沟), Haizi Valley (海子沟) and Shuangqiao Valley (双桥沟), covering an area of 2,000sq km.

Mount Siguniang (aka Mount Four Sisters) encompasses four peaks (with Feng 峰 meaning 'peak'): 1.)Daguniang Feng 大姑娘峰 (Big Peak or 1st peak)
2.)Erguniang Feng 二姑娘峰 (2nd peak)
3.) Sanguniang Feng 三姑娘峰 (3rd peak)
4.) Yaomei Feng (4th and highest peak)

The highest peak is Yāomèi Fēng (幺妹峰; 'peak of the youngest sister'), also known as the Queen of Sichuan's peaks (蜀山皇后), standing at 6,250 m (20,510 ft). It is also the second highest mountain in Sichuan Province and the easternmost 6,000 m (20,000 ft) or higher peak on Earth. The first ascent was in 1981 by a Japanese team via the east ridge. Very few people attempt to climb this and very few of those succeed. The first ascent of the southwest ridge was made in 2008 by Chad Kellogg and Dylan Johnson.

Yaks at Mount Siguniang Scenic Area

The other three lower peaks are regular mountaineering destinations through all seasons. Mount Siguniang DaFeng (四姑娘山大峰 or 大姑娘山; 'peak of the oldest sister', 5,025 m or 16,486 ft) is normally considered as a pure trekking peak with no technical skills needed while ErFeng (四姑娘山二峰 or 二姑娘山; 'peak of the second sister', 5,276 m or 17,310 ft) and SanFeng (四姑娘山三峰 or 三姑娘山; 'peak of the third sister', 5,355 m or 17,569 ft) are more challenging, requiring basic climbing techniques

Ep.13-Changping District Exhibition at BITE 2012 -- BONTV

During this year's Travel Expo, popular tourist spots like Beijing, Shanghai, Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia showed their travel products alongside up and coming rural travel areas.
Changping District, located just north of Beijing, brought their travel products to the expo. This area differentiates itself from other Beijing districts by offering leisure tourism products. Mr. Zhou, from Changping Tourism Bureau, tells us more.
Interview of Zhou (about the hot spring).
Changping District is located in northern Beijing. The district boasts a different type of tourism than Beijing's other crowded districts. Mrs. Zhou told us a bit about touring Changping District's military museum, and mentioned that the museum houses examples of some of the most advanced aircrafts to date.
Interview of Zhou (about the J-10 aircraft).
If you'd like to visit Changping, you can get there by car or subway. The entire trip will take around 2 hours from the center of Beijing.

Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City | BEIJING

Beijing is home to some of China's most incredible treasures and ancient historical sites. Most famously, The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City aka Palace Museum. As Kiwi Asians this was something we (and our family) always wanted to see in person in order to connect more with our Chinese roots.

Beijing accommodation is expensive especially when looking for a place that could fit all 6 of us. But after spending a fair bit of time looking for accommodation in Beijing, we ended up renting out an old, traditional Hutong in Beijing, China.

For our first family adventure in Beijing we went to visit the most famous and iconic Chinese landmark, The Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall of China is one of those must-visit and life bucket list items of many people including us so it was incredible to be able to finally visit it during our Beijing, China trip with our parents.

We entered The Great Wall of China from:
Mutianyu Great Wall Scenic Area Ticket Office
Address: Mutianyu Rd, Huairou, Beijing, China

If you're wondering what's the best way to see the Great Wall or what section to visit, Mutianyu (where we went) is supposed to be the less touristy and crowded of the entrances to the Great Wall in Beijing so although it was a bit further to travel we thought it was the better option as crowds in China are next level!

When we reached the The Great Wall of China, we walked from watch tower 6 to watch tower 1. Finally getting to see let alone walk along The Great Wall of China was a special and amazing experience for us. So much Chinese history and what an astounding feat of human engineering. We were fortunate to have clear blue skies in Beijing that day so we could see The Great Wall of China stretch on as far as our eyes could see.

After our time visiting The Great Wall of China we then travelled to the very scenic and beautiful Sacred Path also known as Sacred Way or Sacred Road in Beijing.

The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs was a very peaceful and beautiful stretch of walkway. It's a great place to visit when in Beijing for its historical and scenic beauty.

The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs
Ming Shisan Ling Area, Changling Town, Changping District, Beijing 102213, China

Beijing is also famous for Peking duck. We found the place where the delicious Peking duck dish was apparently first invented and ate there for dinner.

Quanjude Roast Duck (Wangfujing)
13 Shuaifuyuan Lu, Wangfujing, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China

The next day we woke up bright and early to visit Tiananmen Square which is very near the Imperial City and Forbidden City (now known as Palace Museum). When visiting Tiananmen Square's be prepared to see a huge amount of tourists there. Also at Tiananmen Square though, we saw various architectural highlights like the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the Great Hall of the People as we made our way over to the Imperial City and Forbidden City (Palace Museum).

The Palace Museum / The Forbidden City:
Address: 4 Jingshan Front St, Dongcheng, Beijing, China, 100009

Going inside The Forbidden City is definitely a top thing to do in Beijing. The Forbidden City (Palace Museum) is without a doubt a top attraction and must visit in Beijing. The Forbidden City lies in the centre of the Imperial City in Beijing, China but just remember to look out for signs for the Palace Museum as you actually won't see anything saying Forbidden City.

It was amazing getting to explore this absolutely massive complex. Our whole family had the most incredible time in Beijing. Beijing with its many famous and top attractions is a must visit when in China. Getting to see The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City with our own eyes was an unforgettable experience and one that we feel blessed to have gotten to share with our parents especially given our Chinese roots.
