DMUs are used mostly on shorter and less frequently travelled routes in remote and often poorer areas like Banat and Bukovina. The national railway company CFR uses Malaxa class 77 and 78 DMUs locally built between the 1920s and 50s and refurbished in the 70s. It also uses a smaller number of other newer DMUs. Main DMU in use is the Class 96 Siemens Desiro aka Săgeata Albastră (Blue Arrow).

Nicolae Malaxa (22 December [O.S. 10 December] 1884 – 1965) was a Romanian engineer and industrialist.
Malaxa joined the Romanian Railways Company as a constructions engineer. Malaxa continued to engage in business ventures, and that, upon the end of World War I and the Romanian Campaign, he was living in Iaşi and managing a grape-selling business. In 1918-1919, he quit his job at the Company and started a new business dealing with rolling stock maintenance — the venture was instantly successful, a fact which Pandrea attributed to the infrastructure's decay under the previous occupation by the Central Powers. Thus, Malaxa revitalized rail vehicles left into disrepair, which he sold back to the state at ten times the investment.
According to Time, Malaxa parlayed a shoestring into a chain of arms factories and a partnership in Rumania's largest iron works. By the end of the 1930s, the Malaxa factories were mass-producing steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, trainsets, rolling stock, steel pipes, and were one of the biggest industrial groups in Southeastern Europe, and the main provider of equipment for the Romanian Railways during the period.

Deveselu is a commune in Olt County, Oltenia, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Comanca and Deveselu.
The commune is situated on the Wallachian Plain, about 14 km (8.7 mi) west of the river Olt. It is located in the south-central part of the county, 10 km (6.2 mi) from Caracal, and 52 km (32 mi) from the county seat, Slatina.

Caracal is a city in Olt county, Romania, situated in the historic region of Oltenia, on the plains between the lower reaches of the Jiu and Olt rivers. The region's plains are well known for their agricultural specialty in cultivating grains and over the centuries, Caracal has been the trading center for the region's agricultural output.

Căile Ferate Române (abbreviated as CFR) is the official designation of the state railway carrier of
Romania. The railway network of Romania consists of 11,380 km (7,070 mi), of which 3,971 km (2,467 mi) (34.9%) are electrified, and the total track length is 22,247 km (13,824 mi), of which 8,585 km (5,334 mi) (38.5%) are electrified. The network is significantly interconnected with other European railway networks, providing pan-European passenger and freight services. CFR as an entity has been operating since 1880, even though the first railway on current Romanian territory was opened in 1854.
CFR is divided into four autonomous companies:
CFR Călători, responsible for passenger services;
CFR Marfă, responsible for freight transport;
CFR Infrastructură, manages the infrastructure on the Romanian railway network; and
Societatea Feroviară de Turism, or SFT, which manages scenic and tourist railways.
CFR Călători, the passenger service division of CFR, operates seven types of passenger train, both on Romania's territory, with rolling stock and locomotives, or internationally, with rolling stock. Also, CFR operates international trains on Romanian territory with its own locomotives. The train types vary in terms of speed and type of rolling stock. In 2010, approximately 58 million passengers have traveled with the company. 10 million travelers have preferred private equity firms in particular on the side lines.

Regio (R) -- the trains have assigned numbers from 2000 to 9999
InterRegio (IR) -- the trains have assigned numbers from 200 to 499, 600 to 999, 1000 to 1999 and 10000 to 14999
InterCity (IC) -- numbered from 500 to 599
EuroCity (EC) -- numbered as IC trains from 500 to 599
EuroNight (EN) -- numbered as IC trains from 500 to 599
Special (S) -- tourist trains operated on scenic routes with vintage rolling stock, numbered from S1 to S9

Caracal este un municipiu în județul Olt, Oltenia, România. Teritoriul administrativ al municipiului are o suprafață de 7.472 hectare, iar populația este de 30.954 locuitori.
Municipiul Caracal este situat la intersecția DN6 (București – Craiova - Timișoara, E70) cu drumurile naționale Corabia – Râmnicu Vâlcea – Sibiu (DN54, DN64) beneficiind în același timp și de un important nod de cale ferată care completează transportul rutier cu cel feroviar. Are o poziție geografică ce îl situează la 40 km de portul fluvial Corabia, la 55 km de aeroportul Craiova și, beneficiind de rețeaua feroviară, se justifică dezvoltarea rețelei de drumuri naționale și județene.
Municipiul Caracal este situat în sudul țării, la vest de Olt, la intersecția paralelei 447' latitudine nordică cu meridianul de 2421' longitudine estică. Este așezat la marginea răsăriteană a Câmpiei Romanaților, la contactul dintre subdiviziunile acesteia, Câmpul Înalt Leu-Rotunda și terasa Caracal.
În subteran, este străbătut de râul Gologan. În afară de valea pârâului Gologan, mai există încă o apă curgătoare, sub denumirea de Valea Torentului. Această vale puțin adâncită (6 - 8m), vine dinspre vestul orașului, traversează șoseaua Celaru și se desfășoară de-a lungul străzii Mărăști, prelungindu-se până la valea Gologanului. După cum numele îi spune, valea este seacă, având apă numai în timpul ploilor torențiale.
Caracalul este împrejmuit de pădurile de la Comanca, Fărcașele, Hotărani și Reșca. Zona geografică în care se află orașul Caracal are un climat temperat continental, cu ușoare influențe submediteraneene. Plantele din această zonă sunt specifice arealului stepei, înlocuite în prezent, aproape în totalitate, de culturi agricole. Vegetația naturală (spontană) din zona Caracal se încadrează în asociația de silvostepă (pajiște alternând cu pădure), în partea sudică și vestică și de luncă pe valea Tesluiului și Oltului.
Fauna este cea caracteristică stepei și silvostepei.
Prima atestare documentară a Caracalului, într-un hrisov, datează din 17 noiembrie (XI) 1538.
Situat în câmpia Romanațiului, Caracalul este plin de vestigii care dovedesc locuirea acestui ținut încă din preistorie. Stau dovadă descoperirile arheologice din vremurile paleoliticului, neoliticului și din epoca bronzului. Se află situat între ruinele castrului roman Romula (com. Resca, la nord de Caracal) și ale cetății Sucidava (Corabia). În oraș se află ruinele unui turn care a fost atribuit de folclor împăratului roman Caracalla (217), de la numele căruia ar proveni denumirea orașului. O altă opinie ar fi că numele orașului provine din limba cumană sau peceneagă: kara kale adică cetatea neagră. Moșia Caracalului a făcut parte inițial din imensa avere a familiei Craioveștilor. În 1589, când Mihnea Turcitul a hotărât modul de împărțire al averilor acestei familii, Caracalul a intrat pe seama domnească, creându-se cadrul pentru dezvoltarea urbană. Mihai Viteazul și-a făcut aici o curte domnească și o biserică. Tot Mihai Viteazul a ridicat Caracalul la rang de oraș.
Cea mai veche biserică păstrată din sec. XVI este biserica Domnească Ovidenia ctitorită de domnul Pătrașcu cel Bun, pe care Mihai Viteazul a avut-o ani buni una din reședințe, având o curte de unde își administra cele 23 de moșii din împrejurimi.
În biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului, ctitorită de familia Jianu, se află înmormântat haiducul Iancu Jianu.
Unirea Principatelor la 1859 are lăsate urme și la Caracal. Deputatul Ioan Dumitriu în Divanul Ad-hoc al acelor ani se află înmormântat în Biserica Toți Sfinții, biserică ctitorită la 1818. În această biserică se află Icoana Sfântului Cristofor – Sfântul cu cap de lup.
În timpul celor două conflagrații mondiale Caracalul s-a evidențiat cu două regimente care s-au acoperit de glorie în lupta pentru țară: Regimentul II Romanați și Regimentul 2 Călărași.
Până la instaurarea regimului comunist în România, Caracal a fost reședința județului Romanați. Pe 24 noiembrie 1994, Caracalul a fost declarat municipiu.

Satul cu peste 100 de palate, unicat în România. Lux și opulență în cimitir!
A ajuns să fie cunoscută nu doar în țară, ci și în cele mai îndepărtate colțuri din lume. Comuna Buzescu, aflată la aproximativ 100 de kilometri de București și doar 10 kilometri de municipiul Alexandria, județul Teleorman, impresionează prin casele romilor de aici și nu prin biserica satului cu 4 uși, unicat în România, sau prin istoria sa fascinantă. Recent, am luat la pas acest sat și ne-am minunat de palatele construite aici, unele de peste un milion de euro, și i-am descoperit câteva dintre povești.
