VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC, CANADA | 10 INCREDIBLE places to visit on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island combines large forests, rugged landscapes, rocky mountain peaks, and mysterious coastlines. After living in this beautiful place for a combined 10 years, we’ll break down the 10 MOST INCREDIBLE places you have to visit on Vancouver Island (footage accumulated over the years):

10. Cameron Lake & Cathedral Grove
These are located near each other in central Vancouver Island, sitting between Parksville and Port Alberni. Cameron lake is a tranquil spot on the island with many other natural attractions in the area. Witness the old-growth giant trees at Cathedral Grove and more.

9. Goldstream Provincial Park
Located right outside of Victoria, Goldstream Provincial Park is a great spot for hiking, camping and connecting with nature. Explore the beautiful “Niagara” waterfall or do a challenging hike to the neighboring peak of Mount Finlayson.

❗NOTE: Goldstream Trestle has now been CLOSED to the public

8. Victoria
Sitting on the southern end, Victoria is the most popular and accessible destination on Vancouver Island. Within a 20-minute driving radius of the city, there are tons of things to do in Victoria. You can choose to explore the British colonial Downtown on foot, take a tour to the magnificent Butchart Gardens, see the stunning Hatley Castle, or explore the wildlife on a whale watching tour.

☑️ Book Whale Watching Tour:

7. Port Renfrew
The fishing village of Port Renfrew is another place you cannot miss on Vancouver Island! Also called Wild Renfrew, this area is known for its ancient rainforest, world-class hiking trails, and its stunning beaches.

6. Cowichan Valley
Cowichan Valley is another unique place to visit on Vancouver Island. Activities to enjoy here include hiking or biking Mount Tzouhalem, sipping wine at one of the idyllic vineyards, exploring the largest totem pole collection in Duncan, and seeing the sea lions in Cowichan Bay.

5. Lake Cowichan
Lake Cowichan is another amazing travel destination worth mentioning on its own. This freshwater lake is about 30 km or 18.6mi long and sits to the west of Duncan, in the Cowichan Valley.

4. Shawnigan Lake
Located about 40km north of Victoria at the southern edge of the Cowichan Valley, Shawnigan Lake is a popular place to vacation. The lake is 7km long and great for fishing, swimming, and sunbathing in the summer. But what we like the most in this area is hiking.

❗NOTE: The Quarry has now been CLOSED to the public

3. Sombrio & Mystic Beach
Mystic Beach has a beautiful waterfall that Cascades into the ocean, whereas Sombrio Beach has the best vibe for beach camping. Sombrio is a popular weekend getaway with friends or family during the summer and also offers some hidden waterfalls of its own.

2. Tofino & Ucluelet
Tofino and Ucluelet are both great destinations to get away and relax in nature on Vancouver Island! There is amazing hiking and surfing, and you will find the sandiest beaches on the island here! Our top pick of beaches include Cox Bay, Mackenzie Beach, Chesterman Beach, Long Beach, and Wickaninnish.

1. Strathcona Provincial Park
Located in the heart of the island, Strathcona Provincial Park has the purest nature, richest wildlife and most breathtaking scenery on all of Vancouver Island. Our top picks in the park include Landslide Lake, Myra Falls, and Cream Lake.

Canada Road Trip: Best Things To Do In British Columbia

In this video, we share some of the best things to do in British Columbia, including the best things to do in Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Kelowna, and more!

Welcome to British Columbia!

Canada's west coast province is packed with jaw-dropping scenery and incredible adventures. Home to some of Canada's most varied landscapes, ranging from desert and ocean to mountains and forest, there truly is something for everyone in British Columbia.

We explored BC from Sept 6 - Sept 28, 2017.

Canada's Road to 150 was a 150-day Canada-wide multi-media road trip celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by exploring the uniqueness of this country provincially and collectively while answering the question; What makes Canada special?

We drove to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. Our aim is to dig deep into what makes Canada such an incredibly inspiring country while showing off the best of Canada's tourism to Canadians and to the world.

Exploring the Comox Valley! (Campbell River to Nanaimo, British Columbia) | Canada ????????

After sightseeing in Campbell River, I continued my way south towards Nanaimo, British Columbia, making short stops in the towns of Courtenay and Qualicum Beach along the way.

In Courtenay, I visited the excellent Gladstone Brewing Company, where I sampled some of the local microbrews, and poked around its quaint downtown core. From there, I headed to Qualicum Beach, where I explored the tidal flats of the Strait of Georgia, then completed the last leg of the journey into Nanaimo.

24 hours in CAMPBELL RIVER, BC What is there to do?

I had 24 hours to see as much as possible of Campbell River. These were my favorite highlights and recommendations of where to stay, visit and shop in Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada.

Campbell River is located on Vancouver Island and about a 4 to 5 hour drive from Vancouver including a BC Ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to Departure Bay in Nanaimo, BC.

Campbell River is know for it's fishing, camping, whale watching and all things outdoors so I started by visiting it's most famous tourist attraction Elk Falls Provincial Park. Elk Falls Provincial Park has a number of hiking trails but without question the highlight is the waterfall and the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge. The suspension bridge was build in 2015 and is already one of your must stop visits when visiting Campbell River.

Our next stop was Shelter Point Distillery. Shelter Point Distillery is located just south of downtown Campbell River but a must visit if you're in the area. They offer free tours of the distillery along with a wide range of spirits to taste and purchase. Be sure to check times and hours of operations before visiting.

Echo lake in Campbell River was somewhere we just happened to stumble across. I was hoping to visit Upper Campbell Lake but it was just to far for our 24 hour visit of Campbell River. Echo Lake was right beside the highway, I good spot to pull over and enjoy nature.

While there's a ton of options to choose from if you're camping in Campbell River we stayed at the Quinsam Campground at Elk Falls Provincial Park. The Elk Falls Campground is located just off the highway, 5 minutes to downtown Campbell River and a 5 minute drive to the Elk Falls parking lot. If you get a campsite right on the
river it's gorgeous but all the campsite are very private and large so you can't go wrong with any of the campsites.

Thanks for watching and reading. Be sure to like the video, subscribe and turn on Youtube's bell notifications

Visiting CAMPBELL RIVER, BC + Hiking in ELK FALLS | Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Come join us for another exciting travel day on Vancouver Island as we head north to Campbell River, BC to enjoy visiting the town before going hiking at Elk Falls.

After our stop at Miracle Beach, we hopped back in the car and continued our drive up to Campbell River, British Columbia. After a week of spotting black bears left, right and centre, we had a funny little incident where we thought a dog was one.

Once we got into town, we checked out some of the murals and browsed through antiques at the Trading Post, before heading down to the pier.

The Discovery Pier is Canada’s first saltwater fishing pier, so it’s a little piece of history. It looks out over the Discovery Passage and it’s a popular fishing spot. The pier stretches out 600 ft and is equipped with rod holders, bait stands, and fish cleaning tables. You can even rent fishing rods if you’re there between May and October.

That afternoon we continued to the Quinsam River Hatchery, because, have I already mentioned that Campbell River is the Salmon Capital of the World?! The hatchery has a visitor center with information about the hatchery program and the salmon life cycle, but really, I think most of us were there for a chance to spot a black bear fishing.

You can see pink adults in September, and chinook and coho adults in October and November. It’s open to visitors seven days a week from 8:00am to 3:30pm, and well worth the visit if you’re already in the area. From there, it was onwards to nearby Elk Falls.

One of the main draws to Elk Falls is the 25-metre waterfall that gives the park its name. There is a suspension bridge for those willing to brave the heights, as well as viewing decks.

And that’s pretty much a wrap for our day exploring Campbell River, BC and the surrounding area.

A special thanks to TROVER for making this trip possible.

Visiting CAMPBELL RIVER, BC + Hiking in ELK FALLS | Vancouver Island, British Columbia:

Come join us for an epic road trip to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada where partner with Trover to cover the island from the south all the way up to the north. Unlike most Vancouver Island road trips and travel series which focus on the triangle of Vancouver, Nanaimo and Tofino, we branch off and visit lesser-known places such as Gold River, Port Alice and Malcolm Island just to name a few.

Our trip to Vancouver Island starts off with a flight from Toronto to Vancouver, followed by the shortest flight of our lives from Vancouver to Victoria. From Victoria, we head to our base of Mount Washington in the central part of the island, where highlights include spotting black bears, hiking in Mount Washington and visiting vineyards in Comox.

Our journey then continues to Gold River, Sam's hometown, where we board the Uchuck III en route to Friendly Cove. We also go to nearby Campbell River where we walk along a beautiful fishing dock, tour a hatchery and come across a black bear, and hike in Elk Falls which was our favourite hike on this entire journey.

Heading to northern Vancouver Island, we base ourselves in Port Alice and visit the nearby towns of Port McNeill, Port Hardy and Telegraph Cove. For separate day trips, we take the ferry to Malcolm Island where we visit the former Finnish Community of Sointula and take another ferry to Alert Bay where we have the opportunity to appreciate First Nations totem poles, artwork and museums.

Our Vancouver Island road trip concludes with visits to Parksville, Nanaimo and Victoria. Overall, it was one of the best road trips we've ever done focusing mostly on nature, outdoor adventure, wildlife spotting and visiting off-the-beaten-path villages and communities that have a lot to offer but aren't that well known.

If you are thinking of doing a Canada road trip, Vancouver Island should be at the top of your list. For more information and tips on all the places we visited on Vancouver Island, you can check out this Trover list:

Top Things To Do in Northern Vancouver Island | British Columbia vlog

North Vancouver Island is a hidden gem and not many tourists travel there, which is why we decided to stay for a few days in Cambell River and explore the area. In this video, we showcase the best things to do and places to visit in the north of Vancouver Island.

We start our day by hiking to the amazing Elk Falls in the north of Vancouver Island and walking alongside the river which is popular for salmon fishing. This path is pretty easy and suitable for people of all abilities.

We also visit the Quinsam River Hatchery, where there is a chance to spot black bears. We end our day by swimming at Campbell Lake (McIvor Lake), which is not far from Campbell River.

Vancouver Island's WATERFALLS (Touring Campbell River, BC & Elk Falls Provincial Park) ????????

Leaving the north coast of Vancouver Island behind, I began my sightseeing journey along the central coast with a stop in Campbell River.

Though the town was forgettable and ultimately devoid of major sightseeing draws, the nearby Elk Falls Provincial Park proved to be one of the top sights on my tour of the island. Home to one of British Columbia's finest waterfalls, the park is a lush, forested greenspace that is also home to one of BC's newest attractions - the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge.
