Discover Romania with Dante | Carta Monastery, The French Cistercian Medieval Abbey in Transylvania

The Cistercian Abbey of Carta also known as Cârța Monastery is the most Eastern monument built by the Cistercians in Europe. Cârța Monastery is located in southern Transylvania between Brașov and Sibiu and it is a place that worth visiting if you like old history and architecture. The founding year of the monastery is somewhere around 1202–1203 by monks belonging to the Cistercian order, who came from Pontigny, France. They started the construction of the first buildings using most probably wood, according to Cistercian customs of using perishable materials. A few years later (1210-1215), a stone chapel was added to the initial wood buildings. The construction of the main stone edifice was started, most probably, between 1220 and 1230, by some skilled stone masons from France who built a true gothic construction. The new church became an inspirational model in the architecture for the future fortified churches from Transylvania. The Cistercian monastery introduced the French Gothic art in the region. In order to build a better defense against their enemies, the monks from the Cârţa Abbey built two grottoes near the monastery, where they could hide and they dug a tunnel from the church altar to the Olt river to escape in case of attacks. In 1474, the king Mathias Corvin dissolved the Abbey to stop the constant enemy attacks against the monastery. The impressive abbey has kept parts of its beautiful architecture: windows, keystones and capitals, the 15th century western portal and the gate tower which offers an excellent view of the entire monument. The empty space of the main nave became a war cemetery and a lapidarium. The largest part still standing is the choir, transformed today into an evangelical church, frequented by the evangelical community of Cârţa.
Carta Monastery was the set for the film “The Nun”, a horror film in which a priest and a novice investigate the death of a young nun at the Saint Cartha's Monastery in Romania in the year 1952.

00:37 București or Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania. It is described as the cultural, financial, entertainment, and media center in Romania with a significant influence in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. It is also an influence in education, tourism, research, technology, health care, art, fashion, sports, and politics in Romania. It is one of the most populated cities of the European Union (EU) within city limits and the most populated capital in South-Eastern Europe.

09:45 Brașov is a city in Transylvania, Romania and the administrative centre of Brașov County. According to the latest Romanian census, Brașov has a population of 253,000 making it the 7th most populous city in Romania. The metropolitan area is home to 380000 residents. Historically, the city was the center of the Burzenland, once dominated by the Transylvanian Saxons, and a significant commercial hub on the trade roads between Austria and Turkey. It is also where the national anthem of Romania was first sung.

20:00 Bran Castle or Castelul Bran is a castle in Bran, 25 kilometres southwest of Brașov city in Romania. It is a national monument and landmark in Transylvania. The fortress is on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Wallachia. Commonly known outside Transylvania as Dracula's Castle, it is marketed as the home of the title character in Bram Stoker's Dracula. There is no evidence that Stoker knew anything about this castle, which has only tangential associations with Vlad the Impaler, voivode of Wallachia, who shares his name with Dracula. Stoker's description of Dracula's crumbling fictional castle also bears no resemblance to Bran Castle. The castle is now a museum dedicated to displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.

26:35 Peleș Castle is a Neo-Renaissance castle in the Carpathian Mountains, near Sinaia, in Prahova County, Romania, on an existing medieval route linking Transylvania and Wallachia, built between 1873 and 1914. Its inauguration was held in 1883. It was constructed for King Carol I. Peles Castle is the second-most visited castle in Romania and is arguably one of the prettiest castles in all of Europe. It has beautifully manicured gardens and 168 rooms filled with grand designs inspired by countries around the world. It’s a royal abode and summer family home that showcases paintings, sculptures, rare books, and an array of collectibles.

35:40 The Therme Bucharest is a wellness and relaxation complex with its 10 pools (indoor and outdoor), 6 dry saunas, 4 wet saunas, 16 water slides, pool bars, cafes, restaurants and more. Therme Bucharest is the largest Therme in Europe, with an indoor capacity of 4,000 visitors simultaneously. Moreover, with over 880,000 plants, on a total area of 18,000 square meters, Therme Bucharest has the largest indoor and outdoor botanical garden in Romania. Its three restaurants have a total capacity of 800 seats.

LOCUL UNIC în România și Europa de Est | Mănăstirea Cisterciană Cârța

A Tour of Bran (DRACULA) Castle / Transylvania / Romania [ 4K ]

Bran, also known as Dracula's Castle is Romania’s most visited landmark. It is located in the village of Bran, about 30 km from Brasov. The video shows a tour of Dracula castle.
The Castle owes its fame to its history, imposing towers, and the myth created around Bram Stocker's fictitious character Dracula.
It's widely believed that Vlad III Dracula (Wallachian Prince), known by the nickname Vlad the Impaler, has served as an inspiration for Stoker’s character, Count Dracula. In 1992, it was released Bram Stoker's Dracula horror film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola.
Since Bran Castle is the only castle in Transylvania that fits Bram Stoker’s description of Dracula’s Castle, it has gained the fame of being Dracula’s Castle.
However, Bran Castle was not home of Vlad III. It is believed that he might have never been at that place. The real residence of Vlad III Dracula is the castle Poenari, in the county of Arges, Romania. The castle has long been abandoned, now it's in ruins.
Today, Bran is open as a museum, largely devoted to Queen Marie, the British wife of King Ferdinand I of Romania. From 1920 to 1948 Bran Castle served as a royal residence. You will see on display art and furniture collected by Queen Marie.
You can also buy extra tickets to see the medieval torture instruments exhibition and the Time tunnel where an interesting multimedia show is played.

Abatia Cisterciana Carta - Sibiu

#RomaniaPitoreasca #Carta #AbatiaCisterciana #Sibiu #Transilvania #Ardeal
