Places to see in ( Watford - UK )

Places to see in ( Watford - UK )

Watford is a town and borough in Hertfordshire, England, situated 17 miles northwest of central London and inside the circumference of the M25 motorway. It is not to be confused with Watford, Northamptonshire which is 55 miles to the north.

Watford developed on the River Colne on land belonging to St Albans Abbey until the 16th century. During the 12th century a charter was granted allowing a market and building St Mary's Church began. The town grew modestly, assisted by travellers passing through to Berkhamsted Castle and the royal palace at Kings Langley. A big house was built at Cassiobury in the 16th century. This was partly rebuilt in the 17th century and another substantial house was built nearby at The Grove. Connections with the Grand Junction Canal (from 1798) and the London and Birmingham Railway (from 1837) allowed the town to grow more rapidly, with paper-making mills, such as John Dickinson and Co. at Croxley, influencing the development of printing in the town which continues today. Two brewers Benskins and Sedgwicks flourished in the town until their closure in the late 20th century. Hertfordshire County Council designates Watford, along with Stevenage, to be its major sub-regional centre. Several head offices are based in Watford. Both the 2006 World Golf Championship and the 2013 Bilderberg Conference took place at The Grove.

Watford was created as an urban district under the Local Government Act 1894, and became a municipal borough by grant of a charter in 1922. The borough had 90,301 inhabitants at the time of the 2011 census. The borough is separated from Greater London to the south by the parish of Watford Rural in the Three Rivers District. Watford Borough Council is the local authority with the Mayor of Watford as its head; one of only 18 directly elected mayors in England and Wales. Dorothy Thornhill has been the mayor since the directly elected system was set up in May 2002 and is both the first Liberal Democrat and the first female directly elected mayor in the United Kingdom. Watford elects one Member of Parliament (MP) for the Watford constituency. Prior to the establishment of this constituency in 1885 the area was part of the three-seat constituency of Hertfordshire.

Watford is close to the orbital M25 and the M1 which links London to the Midlands and the North. Watford is served by buses which link it to the wider surrounding area. Central Watford is served by 3 railway stations and a Tube station. One of the principal National Rail north-south rail routes, the West Coast Main Line, passes through Watford. Watford is on the main Grand Union Canal route northwards from London. There is little commercial use, since the advent of the motorways, but the canal is used for recreational purposes. The River Gade and the River Colne flow through Watford.

Harry Potter London Magic Walking Tour and Film Locations

Harry Potter London Magic Walking Tour and Film Locations
London's favourite guide takes you to all the main Harry Potter film locations in London on this magical walking tour.
Joolz Guides retraces the steps of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley as he visits the ministry of magic, the leaky cauldron, diagon alley and more on this tour of the London film locations!

Did you know that they actually used three different locations in London for The Leaky Cauldron. One is in Borough Market in The Prisoner of Azkaban, one is in Charing Cross Road and the first one used in The Philosophers Stone (The Sorcerors Stone) is in Leadenhall Market.

The divination stairway where Hermione wknocks the crystal ball down is in St Paul's Cathedral and we also go past the Millenium Bridge which the death eaters destroyed in Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince. From London Bridge you get a good view of the route that HArry , Hermione and Ron Weasley took as they fly towards Grimauld Place on their brook sticks.

Joolz apparates to Piccadilly Circus just like in the Deathly Hallows and also nearly goes under a bus! We also visit the location where they filmed Platform 9 and 3 quarters which is in Kings Cross Station which is conveniently near the Harry Potter shop where you can buy school uniforms of Gryffindor or Slitherin and the other houses before you head off on a magical walking tour with Joolz towards Diagon Alley and the ministry of magic in Whitehall.

Places to see in ( Radlett - UK )

Radlett is an affluent town in the county of Hertfordshire between St Albans and Borehamwood on Watling Street with a population of approximately 8,000. It is located in the council district of Hertsmere and is covered by two wards, Aldenham East and Aldenham West. It is located inside the M25 motorway.

Radlett lies in the valley of Tykes Water, a stream that runs north from Aldenham Reservoir to the River Colne. Now entirely surrounded by the Metropolitan Green Belt, it is seeing significant 'infill' development and pressure to relax the Green Belt restrictions.

Watling Street, which is the main road through Radlett, has a wide variety of local shops and restaurants, as well as some national chain stores, a Post Office inside the local Budgens supermarket, and the Radlett Centre with a 300-seat auditorium for various performances. Attached to the Radlett Centre is the local Public Library. There are three public houses in Radlett, the Cat and Fiddle, O'Sullivan's Bar and the Red Lion Hotel.

Radlett lies close to the M25 and M1 motorways and the A1 trunk road. Places to see in ( Stanmore - UK )

Places to see in ( Stanmore - UK )

Stanmore is a suburban residential district of northwest London in the London Borough of Harrow. It is centred 11 miles northwest of Charing Cross. The area, based on the ancient parish of Great Stanmore includes southern slopes of the unnamed ridge of hills rising to Stanmore Hill, one of the highest points of London, 152 metres (499 ft) high. The population of the appropriate London Borough of Harrow Ward (Stanmore Park) was 11,229 at the 2011 Census. The Canons ward which covers Stanmore railway station and eastern areas had a population of 12,471 at the same census.

The area was recorded in the Domesday Book as Stanmere, the name deriving from the Old English stan, 'stony' and mere, 'a pool'. There are outcrops of gravel on the clay soil here and the mere may have been one of the ponds which still exist. By 1574 the area had become known as Great Stanmore to distinguish it from Little Stanmore.

Stanmore Village railway station was open for train services between 1890 and 1952. Stanmore tube station opened in 1932.
Stanmore had an outstation from the Bletchley Park codebreaking establishment, where some of the Bombes used to decode German Enigma messages in World War Two were housed.

Andrew Drummond, the founder of the Drummond bank in Charing Cross purchased the Stanmore estate in 1729 . Stanmore was also home to RAF Bentley Priory from where the Battle of Britain was controlled, also formerly to RAF Stanmore Park, HQ of Balloon Command. RAF Stanmore Park closed in 1997 and is now a housing estate and RAF Bentley Priory closed in 2009.

The suburb is characterised by numerous small restaurants and cafés, several public houses, many unique shops like a natural health store and boutique-style clothing stores. The centre of Stanmore is dominated by the presence of a large Sainsbury's supermarket and also a large Lidl supermarket. There are also eateries such as Prezzo and Costa Coffee in the centre of the town. Stanmore's extensive residential areas are mainly leafy and predominantly affluent, with many residents commuting daily to jobs in central London including the City.

The public amenity of Stanmore Park is at the foot of Stanmore Hill and right next to the local library. This is just one of the two outdoor leisure fields, the other being Whitchurch Playing Fields adjacent to Whitchurch First and Middle School and opposite to Stanburn First and Middle School. The playing field hosts many Sunday league football matches on the individual football pitches with respective goal frames.

On the border with Bushey is Stanmore Cricket Club, one of the oldest in the Middlesex county championship league which celebrated 150 years in 2003 and is still successful at the present. The club has nurtured two famous cricketers who have played Tests for England in the last two decades; Angus Fraser and Mark Ramprakash.

Stanmore is home to Park High School, Stanmore College (a government further education establishment) and a local library run by the London Borough of Harrow. North London Collegiate School, one of the UK's top public schools for girls is in Stanmore. The suburb also hosts the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital - known as RNOH - which is famed for its spinal unit.

Places to see in ( Bushey - UK )

Places to see in ( Bushey - UK )

Bushey is a town in the Hertsmere borough of Hertfordshire in the East of England. Bushey Heath is a large neighbourhood south east of Bushey on the boundary with the London Borough of Harrow reaching elevations of 165 metres above sea level. The first written record of Bushey is an account in the Domesday Book, which describes a small agricultural village named 'Bissei' (which later became 'Biss(h)e' and then 'Bisheye' during the 12th century).

Bushey Heath's story begins in the Napoleonic Wars during a large food shortage. To help solve the problem, the government awarded the waste land to the east of Bushey to Bushey landowners to be used as farming; the land was more generally known as Bushey Common. Whilst the original aim was to produce food, being close to a railway and up to 500 ft above sea level with beautiful and broad views made the area attractive for housing developers.

The 19th and 20th centuries marked the time of most change in Bushey, especially between 1860 and 1960. The population rose 28-fold within 200 years, from 856 in 1801, to just under 24,000 today. The expansion was for many reasons, one of the main ones being due to the boom in industry caused by the railway in the early 20th century. A result was that many new jobs were created in and around Watford, and in the early 1920s, Bushey's first council houses were built. More housing was later built for the service families working in defence organisations in Stanmore and Northwood. The expansion eventually died down because much of the land in and around Bushey was protected under the Metropolitan Green Belt after the Second World War.

Despite being close to London and having Watford on its doorstep Bushey retains the feeling of a small town and this is reinforced with events such as the Bushey Festival and quarter marathon which is held each July and the Horticultural Society's flower and produce show. Being located near several film studios at Elstree and Borehamwood, Bushey and Bushey Heath frequently feature as backdrops for many film and TV shows.

House/Apartment hunting in Hertfordshire and Cambridge (with Prices)

Trying to find a house for rent in Hertfordshire over the past year has been an extreme sport but here are a few of the properties I have seen.

Due to my work and school load, I only went to see the good places that I would consider living in. However there were some horrible places but this is not that kind of video lol.

In this video you can expect a realistic approach to house hunting, what to expect when renting in the UK, realistic house prices for towns in hertfordshire, and real cost of renting in the UK/ hertfordshire.

These costs vary significantly for different areas of the country of course but this is where I live so its my current reality.

I hope the video is useful and thanks for watching.

Kacha.

Historic County Tops Of England Challenge

In 2016, I decided to set myself a little challenge. I wanted to explore more places in England, and so it began, to conquer the 39 highest points of the Historic Counties of England.

The Historic (or true) counties are the administrative areas that survived for more than a hundred years before sweeping local government changes in the 1970s.

They have shaped the UK's cultural and geographical identity, and while their boundaries may not be marked on modern maps, they were never formally abolished and so live on.

- The UK's County Tops - Jonny Muir.

Trains at Bushey [BSH] with EXTREME TONES! - WCML (09/05/2023)

BUSH, BUSH, BUSHEY!! Here we are back on the West Coast Mainline, featuring Bushey station. After finishing my last exam, I just had to go out and film somewhere, so this was my chosen place. Let me get this straight up, if you love TONES, and I mean CRAZY TONES, Bushey would be your best friend. This is one of those open-viewed stations, that have little to no barriers causing an obstruction, so drivers love playing around with their whistle blowers here???? That explains as to why this is a rather popular choice for spotting on the WCML, according to what I've seen from other content creators, so I had to come check it out for myself!

Lots going on here, featuring London Overground services, mainline and some freight as well. I probably would not advise to travel or spot on a rainy day, but there were fluctuations of rain and sunshine, similar to Acton Mainline, last month. Although, I can't deny that the rain scenes made the fast trains look cooler when DASHING through!! Enjoy the show as always!
