5 Pretty villages in Suffolk you must visit

Visiting pretty villages in Suffolk was one of the things we were most looking forward to about our recent trip. Suffolk is a county with so much history and you an see that rich history captured in villages all over the county. We have just 5 pretty villages here but there are so many more we didn't get to, so we'd love to hear your tips for future trips!

Many seem to have escaped the advance of the modern world and retain the feel they must have had for hundreds of years. From a village largely now under the sea, to the birth place of Harry Potter and a ferry which has operated for 700 years!!!

Our journey through 5 pretty villages will hopefully give you a taste of what is on offer in Suffolk, it really is a beautiful county and we'd definitely recommend a trip!

10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

UK ROAD TRIP - LAVENHAM, BURY ST EDMUNDS & CAMBRIDGE

IT'S UK ROAD TRIP TIME!

One of the things that we just had to do while Brianna was in the UK was go on a quintessentially English road trip! With stops at Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, it doesn't get much more British than this!

✈✈✈

After spending some time in London, we decided to hop in the car and hit the countryside in Suffolk and Cambridge stopping off at a few towns along the way.

The first place we visited was the famous medieval town of Lavenham. This place is jam packed with tea rooms and old Tudor houses, and it's an incredibly cute place to walk around of a couple of hours.

From Lavenham we drove to Bury St. Edmunds, an old market town with an ancient ruined abbey. It's also home to The Nutshell, the smallest pub in the UK- obviously we had to go in for a cheeky pint!

Our final stop on our UK road trip was Cambridge. Obviously you can't come to Cambridge without going punting on the River Cam and for us it was the perfect way to end the day!

This is what we got up to on our UK road trip!

Visit Bury St Edmunds, where good memories start (subtitles)

Early Sunday morning walk around #Bury St Edmunds (BSE) town centre. A very pretty town, would strongly recommend visiting. Town's origins date back to around 10th century AD when it was called Beodericsworth. Plenty of interesting stuff to see here. This is the place you would love to come back to. Part 2 of this video would cover Bury St Edmunds Abbey.

Bury St Edmunds Suffolk visit. Beautiful place with some amazing history. Absolutely lovely!!

Completely new place for me that I ended up learning so much about. The story of St Edmund alone was incredible and I’d really never heard any of it. The Abbey grounds are brilliant, I hardly needed to move from there and they are great for families with really well cared for loos! So glad I visited! Paul

Abbey Gardens Bury St Edmunds

The award-winning 14-acre Abbey Gardens is on the site of the former Benedictine Abbey, the Abbey of St Edmund, once one of the richest, largest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in England. People came from all over England and further afield to visit the Shrine of St Edmund and it became one of the most famous and wealthy pilgrimage locations in England, visited by royalty.

Internationally renowned for its colourful and attractive displays and the heritage of its backdrop make the gardens a very special place to visit and visitors come from all over the world to see it. According to VisitEngland, the Abbey Gardens and ruins in Bury St Edmunds is in the top 5 most visited free attractions in England!

Situated on Angel Hill in the heart of the town centre, it is the perfect spot for enjoying peace and quiet whilst watching the world go by. Enjoy the Wildflower Labyrinth, Pilgrim's Herb, Appleby Rose Garden, the Water Garden, Sensory Garden, The Garden of Reflection, a walk along the riverside, The Aviary, children’s playground and café.

Created in 1831 by Nathaniel Hodson, the Abbey Gardens was originally a botanic garden laid out in the same style as the Royal Botanic Gardens in Brussels. In 1936 the concentric circles were replaced by the sixty-four island beds which, together with illuminations, formed part of the Coronation celebrations for George VI in 1937.

Today, approximately 20,000 plants are bedded out in the spring for the summer display plus 12,000 plants and 20,000 bulbs in the autumn for the spring display.
