Places to see in ( Selsey - UK )

Places to see in ( Selsey - UK )

Selsey is a seaside town and civil parish, about eight miles south of Chichester, in the Chichester District of West Sussex, within the historic county of Sussex, England. Selsey lies at the southernmost point of the Manhood Peninsula, almost cut off from mainland Sussex by the sea. It is bounded to the west by Bracklesham Bay, to the north by Broad Rife (rife being the local word for stream or creek), to the east by Pagham Harbour and terminates in the south at Selsey Bill. There are significant rock formations beneath the sea off both of its coasts, named the Owers rocks and Mixon rocks. Coastal erosion has been an ever-present problem for Selsey.

There is only one road (the B2145) in and out of the town which crosses a bridge over the water inlet at Pagham Harbour at a point known as the ferry. At one time Selsey was inaccessible at flood tide, and a boat was stationed at the ferry to take horses and passengers to and from Sidlesham.

According to Bede the name Selsey is derived from the Saxon Seals-ey and can be interpreted as the Isle of Sea Calves (sea calves are better known as seals). Edward Heron-Allen identified at least twenty different spellings of the place that we now know today as Selsey.

The parish has a couple of Sites of Special Scientific Interest. Bracklesham Bay runs along the coastline of the parish. Pagham Harbour falls partly within the parish. The harbour and surrounding land is of national importance for both flora and fauna. The shingle spit is also of geological interest.

Selsey Cricket Club was founded in 1834 and is one of England's oldest cricket clubs. Cricket had been played in Selsey before the club's foundation and a famous incident occurred in 1647 when a fielder called Henry Brand died, after being struck on the head by a batsman trying to hit the ball a second time to avoid being out.

Selsey had an RNLI lifeboat station and shop on Kingsway, east of Selsey Bill. The station was established in 1861. In 2014 Selsey had a Tyne-class lifeboat and a D Class Inshore Lifeboat which had its own boat house just off the beach. In 2011 Selsey Lifeboat Station celebrated 150 years during which period lifeboat crew have received 10 awards for gallantry.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Selsey opened its first school. In 1818 premises were granted to the Rector and churchwardens of Selsey which were on trust to permit the premises to be used for a schoolhouse or free school, for the gratuitous education of such poor children belonging to the Parish of Selsey as the said trustees or successors may think proper. The school was eventually taken over by the local authority in 1937.

Selsey was connected to Chichester from 1897 to 1935 by a rail link initially called the Hundred of Manhood and Selsey Tramway and later the West Sussex Railway. The light railway rolling stock was all second hand and not very reliable and the journey times lengthy. Various nicknames such as the Selsey Snail were attributed to the tram and comic postcards were issued reflecting its poor service.

( Selsey - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Selsey . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Selsey - UK

Bollington | Cheshire | Drive | 4K

Drive through gorgeous Bollington, Cheshire, on the edge of The Peak District. Navigating the tight winding roads of Kerridge surrounded in countryside and quaint cottages. Finishing the loop down Bollington valley road, past many more beautiful english springtime sights.

Bollington is a town and civil parish in Cheshire, England, to the east of Prestbury. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the Earl of Chester's manor of Macclesfield and the ancient parish of Prestbury.

Bollington is on the River Dean and the Macclesfield Canal, on the south-western edge of the Peak District. Rising above the town on Kerridge Hill is White Nancy, a monument built to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo.

Not to be confused with Little Bollington (formerly Bollington) near Bowdon.

Amazing Sunlight on Great Budworth Church

Absolutely amazing sunlight on All Saints' Church in Great Budworth in Cheshire. This was filmed late evening, after a lovely pub meal at The George & Dragon Pub opposite the church. It looks like the church is floodlit, but it is actually the late evening summer sun shining on the top of the clock tower.

Fun Fact- This is the very church that was used in the Television Series Dear Ladies which starred George Logan and Patrick Fyffe as Hinge and Bracket. Beautiful place!

Enjoy! #GreatBudworth #HingeAndBracket #FilmingLocation #Cheshire #Sunlight

Trafford has a Castle?

When we look back at the history of Manchester, we think of it as starting around the industrial revolution and ending sometime around when the Hacienda closed down. Of course, that’s not even close to true. There’s plenty of evidence of Stone Age activity and most have heard about that Roman road that runs through here. But that’s a long, long time ago what happened in between. Today we’re going to the border of Bowdon and Dunham Massey in the historic county of Cheshire. It’s now part of Greater Manchester but perhaps for the purposes of todays video we should call it the Kingdom of Mercia. When you think of England, one of the first things that comes to mind is castles. It’s not something you usually associate with Manchester. But there were castles all over England’s landscape during the Norman conquest. Today we explore one of Greater Manchester’s Motte and Bailey castles.

There are 2 restaurants. Jenny’s restaurant is large and full of character, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Meals here range from burgers and currys and cost around £14.

The Overstuffed Pizzeria serves you guessed it… pizza! But there’s also pasta, steaks and salads. The average main is around £15.

The Mercure Bowden is a real treat of a hotel, it’s a fairly small venue but it’s absolutely bursting with customer care and attention. Well the facilities are a key bonus, you might even spot the odd celebrity, but onto all that in a little bit because you’ve got to think of parking your car first.

Now leaving it right at the hotel is the simplest solution with a taxi to the airport only taking around 10 minuets. There’s an intimate bijou bar, for relaxing in during the afternoon, that serves all of the soft and alcoholic drinks you’d expect from any good hotel. Also they’re offering up elegant and tasty snacks throughout the day,
But you don’t want to spoil your dinner, because this elegant restaurant serves the freshest local produce, and they create dishes that are as stylish as they are delicious.

For a hotel of this size you may not be expecting extensive facilities, but the Mecure Bowden has a heated pool, Jacuzzi and sauna right here on site!

And when it’s time for some shut eye you’ll find that rooms are relaxing, quiet, warm in style, but still spacious and open so you’ll feel totally refreshed before your flight.

But it’s not time to go just yet, so you’ve got all of these fruits and cereals available here, as well as a hot buffet to set you up before that day of travelling. So if you’re after a stylish but totally down to earth hotel, where quality food, good service and great facilities are key, then you’ll be right on the money with the Mecure Bowden.

Hi I’m Kate from Holiday Extras, and here’s my review of the Britannia Ashley Hotel at Manchester airport.

I had a really lovely stay here, the exterior of the hotel gives nothing away to what’s inside. It’s a really traditional kinda hotel on the inside, prepare for grand oak staircases, chandeliers, and really very charming interior decour.
The airport is actually just 5 miles away, while this doesn’t feel like a typical airport hotel it’ll only take you 10 minutes before you’re at departures.

The food here is really tasty, although the menu is somewhat limited. You only have 3 choices for your starter main and dessert. This is changed daily and there is always a meat option, fish option and a vegetarian option as well.

You can either park at the hotel overnight and then move your car to an airport car park on the day of your flight. Or you can leave your car at the hotel for the duration of the holiday and it’ll be moved to the Country House to be looked after.

This hotel is fantastic for anyone on a budget, and despite the low price tag there’s character in abundance.
And what’s more with only 67 rooms this small hotel gives a really personal touch to make you feel well looked after.
