Ljubljana

Lake Bohinj

Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. Vintgar Gorge
Vintgar Gorge, carved by Radovna River, is located near Gorje, approximately 4 kilometres north-west from Bled. The 1.6-kilometre long gorge is carved amidst the glorious vertical walls of Hom and Boršt hills, and it is highlighted by the Radovna River and its waterfalls, pools and rapids.

Canyoning, rafting & zipline - Which extreme activity to try in Bovec, Slovenia? | Aliz’s Wonderland
Do you have time for only one or two extreme activities to try out in Bovec and Soča valley, Slovenia? Well, you’ll have a hard time choosing between canyoning, rafting and zipline… All of the adventures were so fun and memorable. I’d say, you have to experience all of these extreme sports in Soča valley. So I wouldn't choose only one, but hopefully my video and blog post will help you to decide.
BEST EXTREME ADVENTURES TO TRY IN BOVEC AND SOČA VALLEY, SLOVENIA
During our 4-day Slovenian road trip, we stayed only 2 days in Bovec. Our time was enough for only 3 activities: canyoning, rafting and zipline. Next time, we’ll definitely try extreme canyoning, kayaking and paragliding. We booked all of our adventures with Tiptop apartment & outdoor activities.
Our trip was in the middle of July in 2021, so the tourism wasn’t as busy as usual. Make sure to secure your spot somehow with the tour organiser. You don’t want to miss these unforgettable adventures!
Bovec has many adventure tour offices. If Tiptop activities are already booked, I’m sure you’ll find another tour provider.

- What to wear: not too short trousers and a T-shirt/top, a small backpack if needed. Closed comfy shoes, which are suitable for small hikes.
- Best time for ziplining: It operates all season, depending on the weather conditions. Try to go in the morning or choose a later appointment to avoid high temperatures during the summer.

Welcome to Slovenia. This small country (the size of New Jersey) sits between Italy, Austria, and Croatia, and as you’ll see, is one of Europe’s raddest places to travel. We gave ourselves a week. Starting off in Lake Bled, we swam in one of the most postcard looking lakes you’ve ever seen before heading off to sail in the Adriatic. From here we explored the Soča Valley — a region with turquoise blue rivers and limitless adventure options. Farm to table food and family-run wineries are a way of life in Slovenia, and we were stoked to spend time with world famous chef Ana RoŠ from HiŠa Franko restaurant as well as Aleš Kristančič, the storied winemaker of Movia vineyards. 10 Hidden Gems in Slovenia
1. Štanjel Old Town
Get off-the-beaten-track in Slovenia and visit the beautiful old town of Stanjel. Here you can enjoy wine tasting and a gourmet lunch. The castle itself is a treat to the eyes, being a Renaissance Baroque castle.
2. Krupa River
Krupa river is 2.5-kilometer-long and runs on the Southeast side of Slovenia, sourced by a karst spring. The river has the characteristics of a canyon, and it offers a relaxing setting with its crystal blue water and rocky mountainsides.
The Krupa Spring is a little corner of paradise. The Monastery on Krupa River is also a major attraction for trekkers as it preserves the cultural and religious values of the reign of King Milutin.
3. Soča River
One of the most beautiful sights to see in Europe is the Soca River, with its emerald green sparkling water. The river meanders into cascades and waterfalls creating a beautiful spectacle for its visitors.
If you’re looking for a bit of adventure, you can go kayaking, rafting, canoeing, camping, zip-lining, paragliding. If you’re looking for a relaxing activity, you can go fishing.
Soca Valley offers many amazing gorges where you can enjoy a picnic while enjoying the views. The river flows through the Triglav National Park, one of the off-the-beaten-path destinations in Slovenia.
4. Cerknica Lake
Cerknica Lake is one of the secret places in Slovenia, at least for international tourists. It’s part of the Notranjska Regional Park, which bears an enormous ecological system. Here you can visit the Rakov Skocjan Gorge, the Museum of Lake Cerknica and many other fascinating places.
5. Pokljuka Plateau
Pokljuka Plateau is located in Triglav National Park in Slovenia, the plateau is a forested karst area that stretches for 20 kilometers. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of big cities, this postcard-perfect place is perfect to explore rural Slovenia.
During winter, you can enjoy different activities like snow-shoeing, sledding, ski-tours, and cross-country skiing, etc. However, in summer and spring, this is a fantastic destination for cycling, bike tours, hiking, etc. Pokljuka Plateau is definitely one of the most underrated places in Slovenia.
6. Vipava
Vipava is most often not on the tourist’s “Must See” list, even though it is only 20 km from the famous Postojna caves. This small town offers a full wine and food experience of the region. It simply makes you want to stay longer for a complete “joie de vivre”.
7. Škofja Loka
The town of Skofja Loka is one of Slovenia’s secret places. With a beautiful castle, lots of museums and the beautiful Selska Sora River crossing the city, Skfja Loka should be on your itinerary!
8. Bovec
Bovec in Slovenia is a real paradise for nature lovers and outdoor fans. Located in the beautiful Soča Valley, at the edge of the Triglav National Park, this region is famous for a variety of amazing natural attractions. The many spectacular waterfalls and the emerald colored Soča, one of the most beautiful mountain rivers in Europe, are particularly impressive. Travelers also appreciate the wide range of outdoor activities that can be done here. Canyoning, rafting, kayaking, climbing, hiking, camping in the countryside and a ride on the dizzying zipline are just a few of the highlights that can be experienced in Bovec.
9. Velika Planina
Velika planina is the site of one of Europe's few surviving high mountain herdsmen's villages where traditional Alpine herdsmen's culture is still alive. This scenic high mountain plateau, part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, is famous for its stunning natural beauty.

I spent 7 days travelling round one of Europe's best kept secrets, the gorgeous country of Slovenia.
Starting in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, I then made my way round to Lake Bohinj, where I took the cable car up to Mt Vogel.
I went white water rafting near Bled before swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Bled itself.
Then I travelled round to the Soča Valley and stayed in Bovec where I went canyoning, zip-lining and took the cable car up to Mt Kanin.

SOCA valley near Bovec in SLOVENIA
Soca valley near Bovec in Slovenia. One of the most beautiful river in the world. Emerald, crystal clear water in the mountains - Julian Alps is a perfect place for kayaking, fishing and trekking. It is part of Alpe Adria trail. We stopped with our RV on Kayak Camp Toni. Superb place with climate for kayakers, but also for motorhomes, tents and caravans.
