Lake Bohinj, Slovenia | Ribčev Laz | Triglav National Park
Lake Bohinj is nestled in the beautiful nature of the Julian Alps, located within the Triglav National Park. It is the largest lake in Slovenia, that is just 30 minutes by car from the much more famous Lake Bled. The Lake is popular as a holiday destination due to its peace and quiet, and the myriad of opportunities for visitors to interact with the pristine surroundings. The perfect destination for relaxing, sunbathing and swimming, but above all for practicing any water activity such as fishing, rowing, diving and sailing in a kayak or canoe. The lake surroundings also offers a series of hiking trails, allowing you to explore the entire perimeter of the lake.
There are three villages within walking distance of the lake. Ribčev Laz is the gateway to Bohinj Lake, and is the first village you meet as you arrive. The village dates back to the 13th century when it was founded by the German settlers but today it is a vibrant place, popular among tourists. That’s also where you will find numerous accommodation and dining options, making Ribcev Laz a perfect base to discover Lake Bohinj and its surroundings. The village has everything you need for your stay – a supermarket, restaurants, post office, atm, and a tourist office. The main attraction of the village is the stone built bridge with the outstanding cultural and historical monument of medieval architecture – the Church of Saint John the Baptist from 12. century.
As you can see, Lake Bohinj is a truly spectacular place that is so easy to fall in love with. No matter if you spend here a few hours or a few days, you will not be disappointed as this is a true gem of Slovenia and Europe.

Lake Bohinj, Slovenia ~ 4K Virtual Walk
Lake Bohinj lies in a valley basin on the Southern edge of Triglav National Park. The walk is filmed in the area called Ribčev Laz where the Church of St. John the Baptist and the famous Jezero Hotel are located (there is no town called Bohinj - the name refers to the entire valley, its settlements, and the lake).
The Church of St. John the Baptist is a medieval church full of exquisite 15th and 16th-century frescos. It is one of the most photographed and most beautiful churches in all of Slovenia (we could say that its only competition is the Church of the Holy Trinity at Hrastovlje in Primorska). The fresco we can see at 9:59 depicts St. Christopher, the patron of travelers. This Saint was very often portrayed on the outside wall since the people in the Middle Ages believed that they would not die on the day they had gazed upon his sight.
The largest town in the Bohinj area is Bohinjska Bistrica, while the small villages on/near the lake shores include: Ribčev Laz, Ukanc, Stara Fužina, Studor, and Srednja Vas. Bohinj has an interesting history (it had a flourishing iron industry, untill the 19th century when it moved on to Jesenice), and a handful of museums and beautiful churches, but the real showstopper is definitely its a breathtaking natural heritage! As the statue of four men at Ribčev Laz constantly reminds visitors, Triglav's summit (Old Mr Three Heads in English) was first reached from Lake Bohinj by an Austrian climber and his three Slovenian associates in 1778. Later the ''pilgrimage'' to Triglav became a confirmation of one's Slovenian identity (meaning you are not a true Slovenian until you climb Triglav). Bohinj can be enjoyed in all seasons and in all weathers - you can go snowshoeing, (winter) hiking, fishing, sledding, riding, biking, camping, ski touring, cross-country skiing, swimming, paragliding, climbing, canyoning, riding and so much more. We could say that Bohinj is a paradise for active tourists and everyone else who enjoys quality experiences in nature.

The reason why we traveled to Bohinj is the goat statue (I always though it's a chamois) but we found a very beautiful part of Slovenia. The area of the Lake Bled is a crowded, but it's worth a visit.
We visited first of all the goat statue in Bohinj.

Camper stop Bohinjska Bistrica is located on the railway station Bohinjska Bistrica It has 22 parking spots for campers that are equipped with electricity. A supply station is arranged at the entrance to the parking. It is possible to add fresh water, empty waste water and toilets there. A reception with souvenir shop and tourist info center is part of the complex.
PZA location is very interesting due to the proximity of cycling and hiking paths, adrenaline sports, water park with swimming pools near by and as well train station - it is possible to try the car train or museum train.

Slovenia is beautiful in any time of the year but if I would need to choose the best one according to our past guests, it would be April-May and September-October. In April-May, nature is waking up and starting to become green, the temperatures are pleasant, 20-25ºC (68-77F). In September-October it is still warm but not hot anymore like in summer, those wanting to take a swim in Adriatic can still do it. The temperatures are 20-25ºC (68-77F) and the sea temperature is around 20ºC (68F). In October, the trees start to change their colors in beautiful shades of the fall.

Lake Bohinj, Slovenia
Lake Bohinj is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia. And is located within the Bohinj Valley of the Julian Alps, and part of Triglav National Park.
It's filled with with beautiful green glacier water, and hopefully you are there for nice weather, not like us.
Make sure that you also head over to the Savica waterfall, it's on the western side of the lake. it's about a 45 min climb to the top, it's definitely a unique water fall, being an A shape of 2 waterfalls coming out of the underground cave.
And stop by the Planinski Dom Savica after ,for a bite to eat....and yes...it does say bad and breakfast on their menu =)

Avtovlak je bližnica med Severno Primorsko in Gorenjsko. Zelo zanimiva vožnja z avtovlakom, kjer se z avtom odpeljemo na vlak in nas naprej pelje vlak skozi predore, čez viadukt in po lepi pokrajni.
Ta želežniška proga ob izgradnji leta 1905 bila zelo pomembna saj je povezovala srednjo Evropo s Trstom.
Bohinjski predor na bohinjski železnici je z dolžino 6.327,3 metrov najdaljši slovenski predor (povsem na slovenskem ozemlju). Predor je bil zgrajen leta 1905. Leta 1905 je bilo na svetu daljših le 10 predorov.
