BILZEN, BÉLGICA: Una de las ciudades más bellas de Limburgo | Joyas de Flandes
Bilzen es una pequeña ciudad Belga de la provincia de Limburgo que se encuentra entre Hasselt y Maastricht. Los hallazgos arqueológicos de la época prehistórica y romana confirman un asentamiento temprano en esta región. La ciudad fue reconocida como tal a mediados del siglo XIII y fue también en esa época que se fundó un beaterio a lo largo del rio Demer. Además, la ciudad pasó a formar parte del Principado de Lieja en 1366. Finalmente, aunque haya sido objeto de reiteradas destrucciones a lo largo de su historia hoy en día posee un acogedor centro histórico. Es una ciudad muy conocida por su gran centro comercial, su festival de Jazz y el castillo Alden Biesen, que hemos recorrido en un video anterior cuyo enlace es el siguiente:

Exploring the Only National Park in Belgium.
Hoge Kempen National Park: nature in all its glory! The National Park in the Belgian province of Limburg is a unique nature reserve where more than 12 000 ha of forest and heathland are managed and protected. The area stretches across the municipalities of As, Bilzen, Dilsen-Stokkem, Genk, Lanaken, Maaseik, Maasmechelen, Oudsbergen and Zutendaal.
Extensive pine forests alternate with purple flowering heathland, large ponds testify to gravel and sand extraction and high peaks offer great views. Moreover, numerous rare and special animals live in this natural setting.
Everyone is welcome to relax here as much or as little as they like by hiking, biking, ... or just revelling in all this beauty. The entrance gates help you on your way.

☀️???????? TONGEREN: La ciudad más antigua de Bélgica
Tongeren se ubica al sur de la provincia Flamenca de Limburgo y según documentos oficiales es la ciudad más antigua de Bélgica. En particular, la zona ya se encontraba habitada por un grupo de tribus belgas al momento de la conquista por el ejercito romano. Posteriormente, en el siglo XVII la ciudad fue incendiada casi en su totalidad por las tropas de Luis XIV, una catástrofe de la que nunca se recuperó completamente. Hoy en día y como resultado de todo lo acontecido en su pasado, Tongeren disfruta de una gran herencia histórica que vamos a mostrarles a lo largo de este video.
En este video vamos a mostrarles la Basílica de Tongeren, sus puertas (Puerta de Moeren) y murallas, su beguinage, que es patrimonio de la UNESCO y finalmente vamos a salir de paseo en bicicleta para visitar el Castillo de Alden Biesen, un castillo que data del siglo XVI y que está ubicado en el pequeño pueblo de Rijkhoven, en el municipio de Bilzen.

Hello dear scene walkers
Today i take you to the city of Bilzen, Limburg, Belgium.
More specifically the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen.
Once one of the most prestigious headquarters of the Teutonic Order.
The Teutonic Order, a German Catholic religious military society.
Founded in 1190, during the Third Crusade in Acre, Kingdom of Jerusalem.
Its purpose was to provide military protection to aid Christians on their pilgrimage to the holy land and to establish hospitals.
However, in 1244 Jerusalem fell to Islam, the Teutonic Order shifted its priorities to the Baltic Sea region.
In the peak years, Alden Biesen controlled 12 other commanderies in the region.
To find out how Alden Biesen originated, we have to go back to the year 1220.
Arnold III, Count of Loon, donated a chapel with lands to the Order, known as Biesen (now Rijkhoven, Bilzen).
Biesen takes its name from the bies plant species in the area.
The Order of Knights built outbuildings around the chapel for the care of pilgrims.
Thanks to the income from cash and donations from wealthy landowners, Biesen thus grew into the headquarters of the Bailiwick of Biesen.
Receiving Grand command of 12 subordinate commanderies in the area.
Biesen lost its Grand status in the 14th century to the new Commandery of Nieuwen Biesen (New Biesen), located near Maastricht, Netherlands, thus becoming known as Alden Biesen (Old Biesen).
In 1543 the Teutonic Order returned to Alden Biesen.
The moated castle was built and completed in 1566.
It was the beginning of a 200-year construction site, in which each new Grand Commander left his mark on the development of the Grand Commandery.
The baroque-style church was completed in 1638 and replaced the old medieval chapel.
French gardens were created around the year 1700.
The last and final addition was the English park garden, laid out in 1787.
In 1794, the Teutonic Order fled the region because of the revolt of French revolutionaries and incorporated the area into France.
In 1797, Alden Biesen was auctioned to the public, after which a lottery draw decided its fate.
Alden Biesen quickly declined as the new owner did not have the resources to manage it.
In 1971, the last owner managed to set fire to the moated castle.
After which the Belgian state purchased the building complex and underwent a major renovation process.
Alden Biesen rose from its ashes and became one of Belgium's most famous tourist attractions.
Today Alden Biesen is a cultural center of the Flemish Community.
Almost the entire domain is free to visit, but to really get to know Alden Biesen, a guided tour is a must.

Alden Biesen is a 16th-century castle in Belgium, located in the small village of Rijkhoven in the municipality of Bilzen in the province of Limburg. Bilzen is a town and a municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg.
Alden Biesen Castle is a magnificent heritage site, an international culture and conference center and a tourist draw. Originally built by the Teutonic Order, it is now one of the largest castle estates of the Euregion. The history of the Grand Commandery Alden Biesen dates back to the 13th century Crusades. In 1190, brave knights founded the German Order of the Teutonic Knights. Alden Biesen was the principal town of a bailiwick or province of this Teutonic Order. For centuries, the castle housed the Grand Commander, a powerful man who governed the province of Biesen. Hence the name: Grand Commandery Alden Biesen.

Via de GR - grote routepaden.be kwam ik deze treinstapper tegen. Het leek mij een leuk idee om uit te proberen.
Mijn gratis gekregen railpas was nog niet veel gebruikt en dus ideaal om mijn treinrit op te noteren...
Helaas liep het even anders, maar de wandeling...nou...die heb ik wel volledig gedaan.
