Door een gevarieerde natuur die ook nog eens veerkrachtiger en sterker uitstraalt is het volop genieten: loof- en naaldbossen, graas-, hooi- en recreatieweiden, een omwald een vierkante waterburcht met 13de – en 15de eeuwse delen die omstreeks het jaar 1870 ingrijpende verbouwingen heeft ondergaan, een kasteelhoeve, een kapel, het grote speelplein en de rosmolen nabij de eet en drinkerij In de Trutselaar zijn slechts enkele voorbeelden die wij allemaal vandaag zullen bekijken. For the one who loves nature and hiking, this place is an absolutely amazing thing to do. The varied nature, which also radiates more resilience and strength, makes it great to enjoy: deciduous and coniferous forests, different meadows, a walled square moated castle with 13th - and 15th century parts, a castle farm, a chapel, the large playground and the horse mill near the In de Trutselaar where you can eat and/or drink. Met de Landrover Defender 130 een ritje door de Weerste dreef van het Meerdaalbos.
Het Meerdaalbos of Meerdaalwoud is een bosgebied op de grens van de Belgische provincies Vlaams-Brabant en Waals-Brabant, op ruwweg tien kilometer ten zuiden van de stad Leuven. Het ligt op het grondgebied van de gemeenten Oud-Heverlee, Bierbeek, Bevekom en Graven en behoort tot het boscomplex Meerdaalwoud, Heverleebos en Egenhovenbos.
Het Meerdaalbos telt 7 bosreservaten: Everzwijnbad, Drie Eiken, Grote Konijnenpijp, Pruikenmakers, Veldkant van de Renissart , Mommedel en Heide. Het Meerdaalbos is Europees beschermd als onderdeel van Natura 2000-gebied 'Valleien van de Dijle, Laan en IJse met aangrenzende bos- en moerasgebieden'
Het eigenlijke bos is zowel met loofbomen als met naaldbomen begroeid. Het Meerdaalwoud herbergt samen met het Heverleebos één van de oudste reeënpopulaties in België.

The hiking culture in Belgium is REAL!
Multiday trekking in endless forests is my thing. However, there are crazy people aswel who can hike for hours without stopping. They're the ones walking 50 kilometers a day and creating hikes like the 'dodentocht' and Steps On Fire.
Last year, I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined some friends in the annual Steps On Fire Hike. While I didn't find endless forests, I found the most pleasant atmosphere to hike in!
Due to a pandemic, the annual hike couldn't be organized. So Steps On Fire created loops around the trainstation line Antwerpen-Mol to keep us hikers from the 'Kempen' happy. Klein Molleke, the smallest, is one of them and perfect for an afternoon stroll.
