An impression of a dive at the indoor diving center TODI in Beringen, Belgium. This is a large freshwater reservoir with various objects underwater. It is home to 5,000 fish divided into 24 species.
The reservoir is originally a thickener on a former mining site. It has a diameter of 36 metres and a capacity of 6,200,000 litres of water. The maximum depth is almost 10 metres.

Todi is an indoor scuba centre in Beringen, Belgium. It is located on an old mining ground.
Here it is perfect to experience the underwater world. There are a lot of fishes in the pool with nice decoration.
It is 10m deep & 36m wide. It holds more than 6200000 liters of water with a temperature of 23°C. It is very suitable to learn to dive, snorkel or freedive.
There is a diving school & a restaurant. You can have a look from outside to the inside.
It is the ultimate indoor underwater experience.

TODI in Belgium is a perfect indoor diving location to spend some quality family time, especially if you are a diving family like us.
The site is an old water treatment tank of the mine complex which is now a urbanisitc recovery project.
The fresh water is 25°C and he maximum depth is 10m so it is perfect also for beginners.

What to do in Belgium:
Centrale Monceau, known by urbexers as Power Plant IM, is a former power station in Monceau-sur-Sambre, part of the Belgian municipality of Charleroi. The plant has been out of use since 2007. On the left bank of the Sambre, some machine buildings have been preserved, on the right bank the cooling tower of the power station.
 
History
The power station was built in 1921 by the Charbonnage de Monceau Fontaine and ran on coal. During the interwar period an expansion brought the capacity to 27 MW and around 1930 to 47 MW. The modern power station, fired with pulverized coal, was selected in the years 1938-40 for the experiments of engineer Albert De Smaele with the burning of schlamme (a moist residual product with quite a few inert ashes). If successful, this process would spread in Belgium.
 
In 1950 a new power station was put into operation next to the old one. The factory buildings, designed by F. and L. Vandenbroucke, consisted of three brick volumes of decreasing height, with large glazed areas. The cooling tower was located on the other side of the Sambre (right bank). An almost identical power station was built in 1953 in Marchienne-au-Pont at coal seat 19 (Saint-Martin), where the Charbonnage de Monceau Fontaine also produced electricity since 1912. Both sites were operated by Intercom (later merged into Electrabel). With a new extension in 1964, the factory buildings in Monceau were more than doubled by a gray extension.
 
In the 1970s, the plant was further expanded to allow it to run on natural gas. By 1977 the plant was the main power station in the Charleroi region.
 
After a report showing that the plant was responsible for 10% of Belgium's carbon dioxide emissions, Greenpeace protested against the plant. The plant, which had a capacity of 92 MW at the time, was closed in 2007. It served as a filming location during the filming of De Premier, a Belgian movie by Koen van Looy.

The Belgian government has closed the borders until at least March so instead of going to Luxembourg as planned, we ended up in Bruges and then at the beach in Ostend. It was so good to see the ocean again after five months…

Hi! We're Nico (a Belgian) and Jana (a British-Canadian) and we met in a hostel while each solo traveling through New Zealand. We fell in love, bought a van and traveled around the country together. After plans to move to Europe together in April 2020 were derailed by COVID-19, we spent an extra 6 months in New Zealand first in lockdown and then traveling in our van. During this beautiful drive, we are crossing a nice hilly region, in the western part of The Ardennes plateau, a nice mix of forests and wide-open areas. We start the video in the regional center Marche-en-Famenne, and finish it in Durbuy, a pictuoresque old village situated in The Ourthe river valley. We discover The Ardennes Plateau, travelling between pastures and forests at altitudes between 150m and 200m, with golden fall colors, enjoy!
