CELJE - Slovenia Travel Guide | Around The World
Celje is the third-largest town in Slovenia. It is a regional center of the traditional Slovenian region of Styria and the administrative seat of the City Municipality of Celje (Slovene: Mestna občina Celje). The town of Celje is located below Upper Celje Castle (407 m or 1,335 ft) at the confluence of the Savinja, Hudinja, Ložnica, and Voglajna rivers in the lower Savinja Valley, and at the crossing of the roads connecting Ljubljana, Maribor, Velenje, and the Central Sava Valley. It lies 238 m (781 ft) above mean sea level (MSL).
Celje was known as Celeia during the Roman period. Early attestations of the name during or following Slavic settlement include Cylia in 452, ecclesiae Celejanae in 579, Zellia in 824, in Cilia in 1310, Cilli in 1311, and Celee in 1575. The proto-Slovene name *Ceľe or *Celьje, from which modern Slovene Celje developed, was borrowed from Vulgar Latin Celeae. The name is of pre-Roman origin and its further etymology is unclear. In the local Slovene dialect, Celje is called Cjele or Cele. In German it is called Cilli, and it is known in Italian as Cilli or Celie.
The first settlement in the area of Celje appeared during the Hallstatt era. The settlement was known in the Celtic times and to Ancient Greek historians as Kelea; findings suggest that Celts coined Noric money in the region.
Celje became part of independent Slovenia following the Ten-Day War in 1991. On 7 April 2006, Celje became the seat of a new Diocese of Celje, created by Pope Benedict XVI within the Archdiocese of Maribor. The town's tourist sights include a Grayfriars' monastery founded in 1241 and a palace from the 16th century.
Portorož, Slovenia - Beach resort and spa town on the Adriatic Sea
Portorož or Portorose is the most popular Slovenian resort town situated along the Adriatic coast. It is famous for its spa tradition: it is a place where, from the 13th century, the Benedictine monks treated their patients with sea salt and mud therapies. The official status of Portorož resort was obtained only in 1885 after the opening of the first hospital, and in 1910 the first large hotel - Palace - was opened. Today, apart from the rich spa culture, the destination is also known for its mild Mediterranean climate, the beautiful surrounding hills and shallow warm sea. Portoroz is buzzing with life, especially during warmer months, with its main promenade adorned by numerous hotels, casinos and restaurants. Though it has something for all budgets the town has an air of exclusivity which draws well-heeled holidaymakers from all over Europe. Besides thermal complexes, the resort is also famous for its rich cultural life and variety of interesting sites, including its main historical symbol - Hotel Kempinski Palace Portoroz. There was a time when only the wealthiest guests of the resort could stay at this fashionable hotel. Portorož is also known for its first-class casinos, many of which have also acquired the status of historical sites.
The most popular casinos and other entertainment facilities can be found on the waterfront.There is a hilltop Church of St. Bernardin, a former monastery from the 15th century and to the south there’s Forma Viva, an area dotted with unique stone sculptures. Portorož is a great destination for people seeking an active holiday. There are numerous opportunities for water sports, cycling and horse riding. It is a perfect starting point for excursions and daily tours. It is only a stone’s throw away from the medieval pearl, the town of Piran, and the beautiful cultural and historical monument that is the Lipica Stud Farm. Galleries, numerous cultural and entertainment events; specialities of Istrian cuisine; superb wellness services and facilities; – guests can enjoy all of these during their stay in the popular holiday resort of Portorož.

Today I met Bernadette, who is the boss lady of the fabric business in Burundi! Her shop stood out to me among the thousands in the Bujumbura City Market because it was the busiest and best one around.
This wonderful story shares why her positive ethics have led her to be successful in her 25 years in the fabric industry, whereas many of the others fail after a few years.
Long story short, she pays her taxes and they don't.
I truly love making stories like this one, and I hope you find it inspiring!

Regensburg is Germany’s mediaeval wonder and capital of the Bavarian Oberpfalz which is often described as Italy’s most northerly city. Much prized in Europe and designated by UNESCO as a unique cultural and historical monument and also the hometown of Pope Benedict XVI. The mighty dome of Sanct Peter marks the centre of the Old Town and the impressive Episcopal Church stands on the site of a Roman building. An equestrian statue of King Louis The First guards the building which was modelled after various French Gothic cathedrals in around 1250 A.D. The Ancient Town Hall is one of the oldest in southern Germany and was built in the thirteenth century. The city’s wealthy citizens featured grand ballrooms on the first floor of their residences therefore the Town Hall could have nothing less grand and so the Imperial Hall was built. In the 19th Century Regensburg could be described as having been a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ because this city on the Danube lacked industry and therefore the new wealth. The fact is though that both history and the Old Town have made Regensburg a World Heritage Site.

Bavaria Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
Bavaria is the largest German territory. Its typical atmosphere is given by little towns and villages. Wooden shells, high red tiled roofs with many little skylights, old signboards, town walls, ancient churches, domes and steeples, narrow streets and riverbanks, huge green areas and many flowers take us to a wonderfully calm and merry world. Beside the well known Octoberfest holder Munich and the medieval older town look keeper Nuremberg, Regensburg and Augsburg there are castles like the romantic Neuschwanstein that are waiting for the traveller. There are glittering lakes in the green pinewood like the Königssee and the Chiemsee, and mountaintops like the snow-capped Zugspitze. Though Bavaria is only one territory within the German territories everyone can feel it is quite different from the others. It is richer, friendlier and its atmosphere is more delightful than the country’s other territories.

In the shade of the fruit trees, surrounded by greenery, overlooking the Gorenjska hills and the nearby Church of St. Benedict, the Tabor restaurant has stood for three decades.
Don’t be fooled by the view of the idyllic alpine landscape surrounding Podbrezje. The restaurant run by Mateja Markič is dedicated to seafood. The unusual pairing of mountains and the sea had already been established by her predecessors. Mateja decided to continue the story together with excellent chef Gašper Kordež, who is known for his seafood.

GOLA DI VINTGAR
La Gola di Vintgar è una gola situata nel Parco Nazionale del Tricorno (Slovenia) e si trova a circa 4 chilometri a nord-ovest della località di Bled, nelle immediate vicinanze del villaggio di Gorje.
Si sviluppa per 1.600 metri, snodandosi lungo un percorso scavato in millenni tra le rocce dei monti Hom e Boršt dal torrente Radovna. Nella gola si trova la cascata del Šum, che ha uno sviluppo di circa 16 metri.
La gola fu scoperta nel 1891 da Jakob Žumer e dal cartografo Benedikt Lergetporer. Dal 26 agosto 1893, dopo esser stata opportunamente attrezzata con sentieri, ponti e passerelle, è stata aperta ai visitatori.Tratto da Wikipedia.

La gola è stata scoperta nel 1891 dal Jakob Zumer, allora il sindaco di Gorje e Benedikt Lergetporer, cartografo e fotografo di Bled, che vennero sopraffatti dalla bellezza misteriosa della natura, mentre alla gente dei dintorni già da tempi remoti suscitava timore e rispetto per questo miracolo della natura.
Il percorso del fiume Radovna, lungo 1600 metri, diventa più celere, formando le rapide e laghetti limpidi, alla fine crea una cascata alta 16 metri, la più alta della Slovenia.
La gola è stata aperta al pubblico nel 1893.
