It is one of the nation's media, tourism, and business hotspots, and has been listed as one of the most livable cities in the world. This city is a good place to visit any time of the year, and the best time to travel to Düsseldorf is during the summer when you can enjoy the city's rich cultural scene, including its numerous parks and gardens.
It is Germany's capital of fashion and design. Düsseldorf has about 560,000 residents, making it the fourth largest city in Germany.

THE BEST DAY TRIPS FROM DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
I’ve just come back from travelling around Germany for 10 days and one of my favourite spots was Dusseldorf.
I have to admit I’m not the best at geography sometimes, but when I arrived in the city I quickly discovered there were some great day trips from Dusseldorf, all just a short train ride away.
I’d heard of Cologne, Dortmund and Essen but I never realised they were so close together. That meant as soon as I arrived in Düsseldorf I wanted to explore all North Rhine-Westphalia had to offer. (That’s the name of the region where you’ll find all of these places by the way!)
Throw in some crazy industrial landscapes like Zeche Zollverein and Duisburg Landschaftspark (just wait until you see the photos) and you’ve got the making of a fantastic few days in and around Dusseldorf.

Bedburg & Alt-Kaster | Rhein-Erft-Kreis | Streifzug | Rhein-Eifel.TV
- Bedburg mit Alt-Kaster, Königshoven und Grottenhertener Mühle. In der nordwestlichen Spitze des Rhein-Erft-Kreises liegt die Stadt Bedburg, mit 10 weiteren Stadtteilen. Rund 25.000 Einwohner sind hier beheimatet. Im Jahr 1295 wurde der Ort Bedburg erstmals als Stadt bezeichnet. Zu Bedburg gehört das Bedburger Schlosses, dessen Ursprünge im 12. Jahrhundert liegen. Durch umfangreiche Um- und Anbauten wandelte sich die Burg im Laufe der Zeit zum Schloss bis hin zu seiner heutigen Gestalt.
Sehenswert ist der Stadtteil Alt-Kaster. Ein touristischer Anziehungspunkt erster Güte. Alt-Kaster präsentiert sich als befestigtes Landstädtchen. Zugang gewährt das St. Agatha-Tor, das Erfttor oder die Niederpforte.
In der Mitte des Ortes stößt man auf die Pfarrkirche St. Georg mit ihrem spätgotischen Turm und ihrem barocken Innenleben. Die Häuser stammen weitgehend aus der Zeit nach dem Stadtbrand von 1624.
In Kaster wandeln wir auf dem sog. Werwolfwanderweg. Hier hat um den 30jährigen Krieg herum der berühmt berüchtigte ‘Werwolf von Bedburg’ sein Unwesen getrieben. Ein Mensch namens Peter Stump soll in der Gestalt eines Werwolfes mindestens 16 Morde begangen haben. Die Zeiten sind glücklicherweise friedlicher geworden. Heute kann man sich inmitten des inspirierenden Ambientes von Alt-Kaster in ein Café setzen und sich vorstellen, wie das Leben hier wohl vor 400 Jahren ausgesehen haben mag.
Durch den Braunkohleabbau im Rheinischen Braunkohlerevier mussten seit den 1950er Jahren mehrere Ortschaften von Bedburg umgesiedelt werden. Darunter auch der 1311 erstmals erwähnte Ort Königshoven. Königshoven ist Preisträger im Rahmen des Wettbewerbes ‚Unser Dorf hat Zukunft’.
Turmwindmühle Grottenherten – die Grottenhertener Mühle, ein verputzter Backsteinbau, wurde 1831 von Anton Iven errichtet. Bei dieser Form von Mühle handelt es sich um einen sogenannten Durchfahrtsholländer. Das Gebäude steht auf einem Hügel, durch dessen gemauerten Untergeschoss man mit Fuhrwerken durchfahren kann. Von der denkmalgeschützten Turmwindmühle sind das Mahlwerk, die Haube und das Krühwerk erhalten. Die Flügel wurden 1981 erneuert.

We are DNF, geocachers and vanlifers!
We - GeoKars and GEOrgCACHING - were both geocachers travelling a lot with out motorhomes to (mega) geocaching events in Europe. That's how we met and became friends. It took us about half a year to become lovers and another half year to sell one of our RV's. Good example of your best friends are other geocachers, don't you think?
And of course we also needed a geocaching nickname together. So our mutual avatar was born: DNF. Why DNF? GEOrgCACHING is from Germany and GeoKars is from The Netherlands. For us DNF does not mean Did Not Find (the geocache), but Deutsch Niederländische Freundschaft which means German Dutch Friendship.
