What to do in Puerto Rico? ???????? | Visit Orocovis, Barranquitas, and the Central Mountains

We explore Puerto Rico's Central Mountains to see what most visitors are missing out on. Most travelers stick to San Juan, but Puerto Rico is full of beauty all around the island. We start off at Cerro Meme, just west of Orocovis, surrounded by rolling mountains at the summit. We then head to Barranquitas, Puerto Rico to grab some Puerto Rican food at El Mofongo, called... mofongos. We then travel over to the Chorro de Doña Juana Waterfall, which was still beautiful considering it was much smaller than usual. We end our day at an overlook called El Banquillo, which overlooks the southern mountains, coastline, and Ponce, Puerto Rico.

TOP 5 SAFE BEACHES IN PUERTO RICO:

Puerto Rico, the island of enchantment, is a travel destination that truly has it all: pristine beaches for swimming, reefs for snorkeling, entertainment for family members of every age, mouthwatering cuisine, a fascinating culture, and every kind of adventure you could imagine.

The beaches of Guanica in the south of Puerto rico feature magnificent stands of mangrove trees. The winding shapes of the mangrove roots and plentiful wildlife make these beaches extra fun to visit.

Not only are the island’s beaches spectacular to admire, the majority of them are also safe for swimming and have clean, warm water all year long. Many of these beaches are also full of vibrant marine life and provide ample opportunities for snorkeling and diving. Playa Puerto Nuevo and Crashboat are great places to enjoy marine wildlife.

Cabo Rojo has dramatic coastal landscapes that can rival the famous cliffs of Ireland and Dover.

Visit Puerto Rico’s sister islands of Culebra and Vieques for the brightest turquoise blue waters you’ll ever see.

Puerto Rico’s natural charms aren’t just limited to the coastline. Go further inland to experience majestic mountain views and lush rainforests, like the Toro Negro forest.

Lechon, the most famous Puerto Rican food, is a whole roast pig. Puerto Ricans especially cherish the cuerito, the extra crunchy pork skin that is like bacon but a thousand times better.

One of the best places to get traditional Puerto rican food is Guavate, also known as the pork highway. You can also find traditional side dishes like sweet potato guineitos and yuca.

Along the highways, you can find amazing restaurants like Mami que hay pa comer, which makes gigantic pasteles, a typical Puerto rican dish specially popular during Christmas season.

For an elevated yet affordable Puerto Rican dining experience, visit To Share in Condado. This is my personal favorite restaurant in Puerto Rico, and the food and cocktails never disappoint. They even have vegan options.

Hijole is a great option for Mexican or Criollo food, and it’s our favorite spot for brunch and frozen margaritas.

For a juicy hamburger, check out el Hamburger in Puerta de tierra which has been popular with locals for more than 50 years.

If you’re craving Japanese food, we highly recommend Nihon Ippudo in Guaynabo. They make amazing sushi and the crunchiest orange chicken you’ll ever eat.

Puerto Rico's Most Unique Places | Cayo Mata la Gata | Laguna Guaniquilla

Hi, and welcome to our channel. Today we are sharing with you some of Puerto Rico's most unique places in the southwest, Cayo Mata la Gata in Lajas and Guaniquilla Lagoon in Cabo Rojo. Lajas, PR is about a 2-hour drive from San Juan and Cabo Rojo is about 2 and a half hour.

***Remember to change YouTube settings to 4K for the best viewing experience!!***

Cayo Mata la gata: This mini paradise is surrounded by other cays named Enrique and Caracoles, which is a super popular one with the locals. Its L Shaped Dock makes for one of the most famous and biggest natural pools on the island.

Laguna Guaniquilla: Punta Guaniquilla nature reserve is maintained by the Fideicomiso de conservation de Puerto Rico, and para la Naturaleza, which does a great job in keeping this hidden paradise in pristine conditions.
With Dry forests predominating in this reserve, along with grasslands, mangroves and the Guaniquilla Lagoon, this other worldly scenery is just spectacular.
Sharp boulders with rough edges, huge white impressive rocks in the middle of a dark lagoon and impressive limestone formations makes this place a unique nature reserve in Puerto Rico.
In addition, its ecosystems provide habitats for numerous species of flora and fauna that are rare or that are currently critically endangered. The lagoon is known as an important place for bird-watching.
Laguna Guaniquilla certainly is among some of the most special places on the island. It is perfect for hiking, walking and getting back in touch with Nature. Definitively a must-visit!

OUR FUN TORO NEGRO ADVENTURE AND CHARCO DONA JUANA!

Our first stop is Café Tres Picachos! Established in 1960, the family-owned Hacienda Tres Picachos is a must stop if you are in Jayuya. The Hacienda is surrounded by a breathtaking view of the Tres Picachos Mountains and full of historical antiques and objects related to Taino and Puerto Rican culture.

Piedra escrita translates roughly as Engraved Stone. The area is a large, protected park with a good parking lot and a beautiful long boardwalk that takes you to the river, so getting there is quite accessible. The Piedra escrita itself is right in the river at the end of the boardwalk.

El Cemi Museum, devoted to ancient religious artifacts of the Taino culture.

Abandoned Aviones and Largest Canyon and Waterfall in Puerto Rico -Beautiful Barranquitas

We saw two spectacular sights in Barranquitas: the abandoned site of the old Aviones restaurant complete with 4 different airplanes and Canon San Cristobal, the highest canyon in all of Puerto Rico. We took a long hike down the trail that is maintained by Para La Naturaleza and even saw an abandoned house along the way. We even met some interesting people too!

The most hidden river in Puerto Rico! Canyon San Cristobal/ Charco Azul

Charco Azul is the most beautiful river in Puerto Rico due to its amazing blue color and its virgin condition. The hike was difficult and I got a couple of bumps and bruises but we made it. Unfortunately, we couldn't get in due to it being so high up but next time i will find an opposite trail that will get us to the river.

Exploring Cañon San Cristóbal, Barranquitas Puerto Rico (Cinematic drone 4K)

I’ve been hearing about this place ever since I was a little boy, but I could’ve never imagined how breathtaking it is. And this is just a small section of the whole system, there is so much more to explore. I am definitely coming back and hike deeper into the Canyon. The waterfall in this video is called El Alcón, one of the many waterfalls along this canyon.

The canyon is accessible by private paid tours for activities like hiking and rappelling. Interesting places to visit along the canyon are Charco El Negrón, La Niebla Falls and El Alcón Falls.
