MOST DANGEROUS PLACES TO LIVE IN LONDON IN 2023

Top 10 areas with the most recorded crimes in London are as follows;

10. NEWHAM
Located further east from Tower Hamlets and has the Olympic Park and Stadium. 800 crimes are reported per square kilometer in a year. The hotspot areas are Stratford, Beckton and Upton Park.

9. TOWER HAMLETS
Located at the east from City of London, Tower Hamlets has a lot of inner London (the East end) crime and rates with 940 crimes per year within a square kilometer. The hotspot areas in Tower Hamlets are Spitalfields and Banglatown, Whitechapel and Bethnal Green.

8. SOUTHWARK
With 980 crimes each year per square km, Southwark comes at eighth place. Southwark is not a classy part of South London that can expect an uplift as some of the trendy youngsters are getting priced out of expensive neighboring Lambeth. The hotspots for crime are: Cathedrals, The Lane, Chaucer, Grange, East Walworth and Camberwell Green.

7. KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA
The fact it has one of the most expensive properties in the UK. Kensington and Chelsea rank the 7th highest crime borough in London with 1,010 crimes reported per square kilometer per year. The hotspots are Brompton and Earl’s Court.

6. HAMMERSMITH AND FULHAM
Located in West London, Hammersmith and Fulham is also an expensive area but it does not mean it will be crime-free as the report highlights that Hammersmith and Fulham has just over 1,000 crimes a year reported for every square kilometer. The hotspots are Sherperd Bush Green and Hammersmith Broadway.

5. CAMDEN
Camden is a big tourist and nightlife area that might explain its high placement as one of the top London crime area with 1,110 crimes reported per square kilometer in a year. Camden’s highest crime areas are: Holborn, Covent Garden, Camden Town, Bloomsbury, Regent’s Park and King’s Cross.

4. LAMBETH
With Brixton, Lambeth has a reputation for a crime for decades and Lambeth still has a high crime in London with 1,110 crimes reported for every square kilometer in a year. Higher risk areas are: Brixton, Coldharbour, Clapham Town, Oval and St Leonards.

3. HACKNEY
Hackney is stricken with one of the highest crime rates at 1,180 per square kilometers per year. Hackney is slow becoming a very expensive area which houses some rich people as well with some cheaper homes for poor people in this rough area. Areas to look out are Haggerston, Dalston, Hoxton and Hackney Central.

2. ISLINGTON
Islington is a borough in the north of Central London with 1,490 crimes reported each year per kilometer square of land. Not known for tourism and this borough struggles with crime. Its most notable crime areas are Bunhill, Finsbury Park and Barnsbury.

1. WESTMINSTER
The borough has the highest crime rate in London as having one of the highest populations due to parts of Westminster are in the center of the city. There are 1,580 crimes reported per square kilometer. Westminster is a major tourist and commuter area for London so there are more people in Westminster than in most other boroughs.

Hackney Wick and Victoria Park - Cool Places to See in London

Hackney Wick is a very cool area in East London with loads of bars and new artistic developments and stuff. Strewn all over the place is evidence of Hackney Wick's industrial past. In this video we walk from Victoria Park and through Lauriston Road taking in some interesting and cultural sights along the way.
There is the usual irreverent banter from Simon and Joolz and plenty of historical facts and fun street furniture to spot.

Tower of London to Wapping - London's Best Riverside Walk

Tower of London to Wapping - London's Best Riverside Walk.
This is one of my favourite riverside walks which takes in some lovely old historic pubs too along the river Thames.
Starting at The Tower of London see Dead Man's Hole underneath Tower Bridge where dead bodies used to wash up.
Then past St Catherine's Dock where Shackleton departed Britain for the last time and down Wapping High Street. Then take a look along the shore of the River Thames where you might go mudlarking and find a Tudor shoe or some other ancient artifact.
Continue to the Town of Ramsgate Pub and learn the history of Judge Jeffreys, the hanging judge and where Captain Bligh had his final drink with the crew of The Bounty.
Past Wapping Pier Head and then to Execution Dock and the Captain Kidd Pub and Thames River Police.
After that past Wapping Station and onto The Prospect of Whitby, one of the oldest riverside pubs in London called Devil's Tavern.
Then in Limehouse and past the London Hydraulic Company and Captain Cook's house which used to be the old Chinatown and inspired Sherlock Holmes, Fu Man Chu and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
Then finish your walk at The Grapes where Charles Dickens used to drink and which features in Our Mutual Friend.

Places to Visit in London Outside the Centre - Primrose Hill - London History

If you want non touristy things to do in London how about a delightful walking tour of Primrose Hill, one of London's most splendid places to visit in London outside the centre. Absolutely Top Hole East End Walk Around Bethnal Green - London

Taking a walk around London's Bethnal Green is somewhat different from how it once was, but there are still some pockets of the area which remain true to its past and there are some wonderful cafes and museums to visit with a rich history.

I would definitely start with breakfast at E. Pellicci Cafe. It's an absolute treat with Grade 2 listed status and 1940s interior. The staff are friendly and funny too.
There is also authentic Pie and Mash at Kelly's and the Victorian and Albert Museum of childhood.

Bethnal Green was famous for the blind beggar who was actually Henry de Montfort, sone of the Earl of Leicester and many balads have been written about him. In this film Lil Lost Lou sings her own version of The Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green.

Bethnal Green was also the stamping ground of the notorious Kray Twins and we go past some of their haunts, where they went to school and boxed and of course where The Krays drank!

In addition there is the usual history of the buildings and some of London's first social housing experiments.

Rather Splendid Walking Tour of Kensington - London

Joolz takes you on a quirky and rather splendid walk around Kensington, one of London's most exclusive neighbourhoods. See the shops where Princess Diana frequented and the house where Freddie Mercury lived.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is where Kensington Palace sits and hence Princess Diana walked these streets. There is also Kensington Palace Gardens, London's most expensive street and some cute little museums. We visit Linley Sambourne House as well as antique shops and vintage clothing stores.
Michael German Antiques is where I bought my walking cane and Hornets is wear I've bought many of my bowler hats and boating blazers.
All this and much more in this fun Joolz Guide about Kensington.

Rather Superb St. John's Wood - Serene London Walking Tour

In this rather superb London walking tour Joolz visits St John's Wood, a most serene and well-to-do neighbourhood in north London.
If you are attending the American School in London this is the area you will be frequenting!
Familiar to Beatles fans because of the Abbey Road Studios and famous zebra crossing. We also visit Lords cricket ground, Paul McCartney's house and many other interesting historical places.
See Boy George's first house, learn why it is called St John's Wood, and find out all about Joanna Southcott, one of the women of the apocalypse!
As usual there's the usual banter and humour mixed with interactions with the public....and Bananaman!

5 Best Areas to live in London

What are the best neighborhoods to live in London? The multicultural English Capital is one of the best places to be at. Yes, I am talking about London. London has a lifestyle of its own. It is one of the most famous and vibrant cities in Europe. The city is known for its limitless possibilities that can help you to make your dreams come true. So, if you are thinking about moving to London or are planning a visit to the city, it is important to arrange a place for yourself to stay. Rentals are usually high in the city and it is divided into zones therefore choosing a residence can get tough. Following are some of the best areas to stay in London that offers you the best lifestyle the city has.
1. Camden
Did you know that Camden Town is named after Earl Camden, a famous English lawyer and a politician of the 18th century? Situated northwards from St Pancras, the only international train station in the city, Camden falls amongst one of the most energetic and liveliest neighborhoods in all of North London. It is well-known for its full of go markets, Canalside eateries, and pulsating art scenes that would drown you into their beauty. With being just 2.5 miles from the charring cross, it is a home for various service sector industries such as retail, entertainment, and tourism. The area is a hub for street markets and music venues. It would not be wrong to say that some of the best live music venues of London such as Electric Ballroom and Roundhouse are situated in Camden. It has earned a reputation for itself as a cultural hub due to its rich artistic activities. Resultantly, you would see young and creative individuals rushing down the streets of Camden, working their way towards fulfilling their dreams. If you are someone who appreciates art and food, Camden is a must-visit place in London.
Access to the area is fairly easy as it has multiple overground and underground train lines connecting it to the city center. Accommodation in the area comes at various price points. You can start from as low as a one-bedroom apartment and go as high as large exclusive area houses on Primrose Hill. While the average price point is relatively high making rentals a little more expensive, you can find affordable places in adjacent neighborhoods such as Chalk Farm, Kentish Town, or Barnsbury that are just a few minutes walks.
2. North Greenwich
With the combination of a lavish community, lively social places, and state-of-the-art architecture North Greenwich is a neighborhood that you want to be in. It not only offers a truly modern lifestyle but also provides its residents with a multivariate cultural experience. The regeneration of the Greenwich Peninsula has made it the center of conversation for various real-estate buyers. Situated in between the O2 complex and the glass-fronted Tube Station, North Greenwich encapsulates numerous high-rise buildings, world-class cafes, restaurants, and retail outlets. A view opening up to the banks of River Thames and an environment as such keeps the locals active and joyous.
The urban lifestyle of the area is ideal for young professionals and businessmen that are looking for a residence that is both modern and easy to access. The tube station allows for an easy commute, to and from the area. In addition to this, if you are a frequent flyer, the London City Airport is also a short drive away. Although most accommodations in the area are apartment based you can find yourself family-friendly homes in older Greenwich which is just around the corner.
3. Putney
If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city center, Putney might be a place to consider. It is a suburb located in South West London along the banks of the River Thames. Being an ancient parish that covers a land area of 9.11 square kilometers the area has a rich cultural heritage. It features multiple locally operated stores alongside a few international chains that fulfill most if not all the needs of its residents. It also has a number of bars and pubs to keep the people entertained. Moreover, the area is home to some of the most popular walking and running trails of the city.

Non Touristy Things to Do In London - Dickens Museum and Foundlings

This is a very interesting area and a lovely place to visit for non touristy things to do in London like the Charles Dickens Museum and Foundling Museum, just a stone's throw from Lambs Conduit Street.

Dickens and his wife moved here in 1837 and he wrote Oliver Twist and Pickwick Papers here. They’ve got a bunch of his writing materials, paintings furniture and much more….

In Long Yard is where the original conduit was. William Lamb 1577 paid £1500 to renovate a conduit house in Snow Hill and water was fed off to here from a tributary of River Fleet, which people said tasted ok compared to the later New River which opened.

The Lamb Pub - from 1720 in named after William Lamb. It still has snob screens from Victorian times so you could drink without being observed by the bar staff.

Lambs Conduit Street itself is mostly independent shops cafe, wine bars. No chains. Partially pedestrianised and even the supermarket is run by the community.

Great Ormond Street Hospital originally only had 10 beds (1852) 1st UK hospital dedicated to children.

in 1929 JM Barrie gave all rights of his plays and books to fund the hospital’s research.

The Foundling Museum in Brunswick Square (Coram Fields) - In 1739 Thomas Coram, master mariner was appalled at the amount of children abandoned by their parents so he campaigned for 17 years until George II granted a royal charter for the Foundling Hospital.
Hogarth and Handel helped. Hogarth got people to donate art and Handal performed the Messiah in the chapel.
It became first public art gallery in UK and it’s now the Foundling museum.
