8 Best Towns to Live in Scotland

What are the best towns in Scotland? Only a few people would disagree with the description of Scotland as the most rugged and most beautiful of all the four UK nations. Many would celebrate Scotland for its deep and fascinating history, striking mountains, and stately castles not to mention misty lochs and its mythological monsters. Truly, cities and towns in Scotland have a lot of good things for which you should love them. Focusing now on towns, we present here the best 8 towns to live in Scotland.
These smaller gems are scattered across the glens and valleys of Scotland to give the nation an incredible landscape. The next time you plan on vacationing in Scotland, try and see if you can choose some of these 8 best towns to live in Scotland.
8. Helensburgh
A good place to begin beaming our searchlight is Helensburgh, a rich coastal town in Argyll and Bute council area. The town founded in 1776 as a spa by Colquhoun is at the intersection of the Firth of Clyde and East Clyde. The 15,000 residents of this town named after its founder’s wife have their own Community Council. Its unique location 40 kilometers northwest of Glasgow on the water, provides good access from the town to Glasgow. That’s one good reason to love it.
According to The Sunday Times ranking of the best places to live in Britain, Helensburgh is one of the 12 best locations to live in Scotland. Among the wide range of factors considered before the conclusion is reached are job availability and satisfaction, academic performances and exam results, community spirit, broadband speed, and local shops. In any of these, Helensburgh is never found wanting. Thus, we agree that this is one of the best towns to live in Scotland.
7. Bearsden
Bearsden, a town in East Dunbartonshire and on the northwestern fringe of Greater Glasgow is the next on our list. The town about 5.2 kilometers northwest of Glasgow City Center is a suburb with a population of about 28,000 and it provides quick and easy access to the city center.
We first thought of including Bearsden here when it appeared on a list of the 8 best places in Scotland. That list was compiled by The Sunday Times. Looking closer, we found out that the town has an array of cute homes, quality schools, and a thriving community of small shops. This makes it a desirable option for raising a family. It has all of the nighttime entertainment you could ask for.
Though the crime rate in Glasgow city center is high, Bearsden is quite quiet, making it a good place to call home around Glasgow. It’s also one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world.
6. Dunkeld
Let’s proceed to Dunkeld a town in Perth and Kinross. The town is located on the north bank of the River Tay and opposite Birnam. Dunkeld is frequently referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands because of its proximity to the geological Highland Boundary Fault. The town that is one of the most loved in the UK is also one of the best towns to live in Scotland. It’s a popular holiday area in Scotland. It’s also well connected by road and rail to all the major centers in Scotland and the other parts of the UK. Though the town with an estimated population of 1,300 may be relatively small, it’s among the best.
This historically and naturally significant town has been a settlement since ancient times. That’s why you will find a historical cathedral and other historical edifices that would even remind you that it was declared the capital of the Scottish nation in the 9th Century.

Places to see in ( Ellon - UK )

Places to see in ( Ellon - UK )

Ellon is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, approximately 16 miles north of Aberdeen, lying on the River Ythan, which has one of the few undeveloped river estuaries on the eastern coast of Scotland. It is in the ancient region of Formartine. Its name is believed to derive from the Gaelic term Eilean, an island, on account of the presence of an island in the River Ythan, which offered a convenient fording point.

Places of interest within the town include the ruins of Ellon Castle, surrounded by walls known as the Deer Dyke, and the Auld Brig, a category A listed bridge across the Ythan, built in 1793 and still in use as a pedestrian bridge. The Riverside Park offers walkways alongside the Ythan, from which herons, salmon, trout and otters may be observed. In 2013, a new 5.5 acre eco-brewery, owned and crowdfunded by BrewDog, was opened in a greenfield site just outside of Ellon.

Ellon has a community centre, which includes a swimming pool and café. The Ythan Centre is a building dedicated to serving the needs of Ellon's teenage population. This facility includes a soundproofed room where amateur bands can practise and a large hall with roof to floor length mirrors, which the dance group Refresh uses for their weekly practice.

The Meadows sports centre, located on the outskirts of Ellon, has many sporting facilities and clubs, including football and rugby pitches, an astroturf pitch for hockey, a gym, and a multi-use sports hall. The Meadows is also home to the Ellon United football team, the Ellon RFC and the Ellon HC.

Ellon has benefited from the North Sea oil demand, and is one of the main dormitory towns for Aberdeen. It is part of the proposed Energetica corridor of development. The population is expanding as young families seek to escape Aberdeen and move to nearby towns like Ellon, Inverurie and Banchory. During 2006, Ellon ranked as the town with the fourth most rapidly increasing average house prices in Scotland.

Ellon is bypassed by the A90 road, which offers convenient access to Aberdeen to the south and Peterhead and Fraserburgh to the north. Other major road links are the A920 west to Oldmeldrum and Huntly, and the A948 north to New Deer. Regular and frequent bus services link Ellon with Aberdeen, Inverurie, Peterhead, Fraserburgh and surrounding towns and villages, serving both the town centre and the large Park and Ride facility at the eastern edge of the town.

Ellon railway station was a principal station on the Great North of Scotland Railway line that ran from Aberdeen to Fraserburgh and Peterhead. Due to the Beeching Axe, passenger services were withdrawn on the Formartine and Buchan Railway line in 1965. Freight services continued on the line until 1979 (Fraserburgh only, the Maud-Peterhead section was closed in 1970), at which point the entire line was closed.

( Ellon - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Ellon . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ellon - UK

Crathes Castle Gardens - One of the Finest Gardens in Scotland | Aberdeen | Scotland

CRATHES CASTLE AND GARDENS, BANCHORY
Crathes Castle and Gardens influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement are a real jewel of a place. The castle, gardens and setting combine to stunning effect.

The 4 acre walled garden at Crathes Castle is one of the finest in Scotland and has been developed over 300 years. It is a wonderful example of the garden as a series of spaces.
The garden is full of colour in the summer with beautiful borders including a white themed one which is seen as soon as you enter. The garden was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement.

There are 8 garden rooms overall, each one with its own theme, including a double herbaceous border, the Red Garden, the June Borders and the Golden Garden. Portuguese laurels throughout the garden are clipped and give added interest and shape.
A terrace gives a good overall view of the space with seats to contemplate the colours and shapes. Further on is a secret pool garden which has a great sense of tranquillity.
There is a large greenhouse with a National collection of Malmaison carnations.

Crathes Castle was built in the 16th century and has a wonderful interior which can be explored. Several Scottish Renaissance painted ceilings can be seen, as well as works of art, so make sure you leave enough time during your visit.

The estate covers 530 acres with many different trails to follow, with something to see in every season. A wonderful place.

Drum Castle (Scotland)

Tour of Drum Castle - Filmed in September 2021

Music by William Dongois

Drum Castle is a castle near Drumoak in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. For centuries it was the seat of the chief of Clan Irvine. The place-name Drum is derived from Gaelic druim, 'ridge'. The site is located approximately 6+1⁄2 miles (10.5 kilometres) northeast of Banchory and 3 miles (5 kilometres) west of Peterculter. The property is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public.

Further reading via Wikipedia;

Walking the Deeside Way - Part 1 of 3 (Aberdeen to Banchory)

First in a three part series.

The Deeside Way is a long distance path in Scotland running from near the centre of Aberdeen City, to Ballater, in the Cairngorms National Park.

The route follows the line of the Old Royal Deeside Railway from Aberdeen to Banchory, through woodland and farmland to Kincardine O’Neil and then rejoins the old line from Aboyne to Ballater, total distance 41 miles.

The Deeside Railway was a line that travelled from Aberdeen to Ballater as a stretch of the Great North of Scotland Railway. Its tracks have since been removed in their entirety and the path opened as a track to the public. While in operation, the railway was used by the British Royal Family during travel to their Scottish retreat at Balmoral, hence the local name the Royal Deeside Line.

The path is suitable for walkers and cyclists with many sections suitable for horses as well and is Route 135 of the National Cycle Network which is coordinated and promoted by Sustrans.

The Falls of Feugh - Waterfall Drone Footage - Banchory, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

The stunning Falls of Feugh are located near Banchory in Aberdeenshire.
The Falls of Feugh are a short walk from Banchory centre. There is a stonebuilt Bridge of Feugh footbridge spanning the river which is popular with visitors who watch salmon climb the natural leap as they make their way up the Falls during spawning season. The best months for spotting salmon leap are September to November and February to March.
In the vicinity there is a free car park and the Falls of Feugh Tearooms is just a short walk across the bridge.

Aberdeen to Dundee on the Stagecoach X7 'Coastrider'. Beautiful Coastal Scenery & Towns!

Hello guys and what a beautiful day this was for another bus journey! The latest one in my quest to find Britain's Best Bus Routes and recommended to me by friend and supporter of the channel Walter Fillingham.

This trip sees me boarding the Stagecoach X7 Coastrider service as it heads out from Aberdeen all the way down the east coast to Dundee. We call at some lovely towns like Stonehaven and Montrose with some spectacular sea views from high up at the front of the bus.

I'll show you the interior of the bus, the scenery, how much it costs and we'll also see how that compares to the train. As always guys, your comments are most welcome!

Many thanks for taking the time to watch my videos. Your support is massively appreciated and it enables me to make more content like this for you all to enjoy.

Cheers for now.
