Bad Wimpfen, Kurstadt am Neckar, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Bad Wimpfen ist eine Kurstadt am Neckar im Landkreis Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg in der Region Kraichgau. Sie gehört zur Region Heilbronn-Franken und zur europäischen Metropolregion Stuttgart. Die Stadt war einst mittelalterliche Stauferpfalz und später bis 1803 Reichsstadt.
Bad Wimpfen liegt am linken Ufer des Neckars etwa 10 km nordnordwestlich von Heilbronn. Sein älterer Teil, Wimpfen im Tal, zieht sich längs des Flusses in seiner dort recht breiten linken Aue. Etwas westlich davon steht Wimpfen am Berg auf dem zum Kraichgau hin ansteigenden oberen Hang links des Flusstals.
Bad Wimpfen hat Kureinrichtungen sowie viele Bau- und Kunstdenkmäler aus zwei Jahrtausenden. Die historische Altstadt ist komplett denkmalgeschützt.

An der Burgenstraße zwischen Heidelberg und Heilbronn liegt die Stadt Bad Wimpfen mit ca. 7.242 Einwohnern. Die romantische Stadtsilhouette hoch über dem Neckar ist von Weitem her sichtbar und wird geprägt durch die ehemals größte staufische Kaiserpfalz nördlich der Alpen mit der mittelalterlichen Burganlage, Türmen und Toren, Fachwerkhäusern und Kirchen.
„Vergangenheit fühlen - Gegenwart genießen“ gilt sowohl für Bürger wie für Gäste von Bad Wimpfen, denn die Geschichte ist auf Schritt und Tritt erlebbar. Doch um die ein oder andere Errungenschaften des heute modernen Sole-Heilbades würden die Stauferkönige dankbar sein, denn sie haben manch Komfort und Abwechslung mit sich gebracht.
Die Stadt besteht aus den drei Stadtteilen Bad Wimpfen am Berg, Bad Wimpfen im Tal und Hohenstadt. Während Hohenstadt landwirtschaftlich geprägt ist, liegt in Bad Wimpfen im Tal der Schwerpunkt auf Industrie und Gewerbe. In der unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Talstadt befindet sich die Ritterstiftskirche mit dem Kloster Bad Wimpfen. Bad Wimpfen am Berg ist mit der staufischen Kaiserpfalz und der historischen Altstadt ein beliebtes Tagesausflugs- und Urlaubsziel.
Das romantische Städtchen liegt verkehrsgünstig und ist mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln gut erreichbar. Innerorts kann der Bürgerbus genutzt werden.

Welcome to one of the oldest Christmas Markets in Germany - Altdeutscher Weihnachtsmarkt in Bad Wimpfen. It is unique because it is opened only from Friday till Sunday, and you cannot visit it during working days. In my opinion this is one of the best German Christmas Markets and you should definitely visit it. This Christmas Market has been opened first time in 1487. Moreover the observation deck on the tower is opened during the Christmas Market, entrance is only 2 Euro - I have added several shots from there, but the walking path is pretty narrow.

I hope you will enjoy this walking tour with ambient sound which will help you to feel the atmosphere of Christmas. The Christmas Market is accompanied by beautiful, brightly lit trees, strings of lamps and attractions for kids. Pay attention to the fact that you must leave 2 Euros for the cup and you cannot return the cup back! In this location this is the first time I see that you cannot return the cup, so bring yours if you have no plans to buy one.
Keep in mind that there are problems with parking on location, so better take the train.

My favorite little town in Germany - Tübingen. When I imagine fairy tales and my inner six year old dreams about the 'olden days' I can't imagine a more perfect example than this university town in Germany's Baden-Württemberg. Each year they host the biggest chocolate market in Europe - chocolART. They've got chocolate in every imaginable form - hot chocolate, spicy, chocolate covered fruit, chocolate mulled wine, chocolate EVERYTHING. I was also completely delighted by the light-up buildings at night.
The medieval market in Esslingen - think handmade wares, a feeling of being transported back in time, and on-theme games and eats.
The Königlicher Weihnachtsmarkt at Hohenzollern castle! Steaming hot punch, bubbles, and baubles - What’s not to love?
The amazing Christmas market at Ravennaschlucht in the Black Forest. This market takes place under a train bridge that changes all the colors of the rainbow!
Stuttgart's Christmas market, which is the biggest of the bunch with dazzling light displays, ice skating, and lots of handmade crafts and ornaments.
Heidelberg, Bad Wimpfen, and Ludwigsburg all make appearances too! These are the best and most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany. Check them out!

Bad Wimpfen Germany is located in the north of Baden-Württemberg, in the beautiful countryside of the Neckar river valley between Heidelberg (56 km) and Stuttgart (67 km). With a population of 7000, most of whom work in the nearby industrial centers of Neckarsulm and Heilbronn, Bad Wimpfen is a relatively small community steeped in tradition and history and with a good educational and leisure infrastructure. Bad Wimpfen reflects upon a long history as the one-time largest fortified Staufian palace north of the Alps.

Der Teilort Hohenstadt liegt etwa 2 km vom Stadtzentrum entfernt am Ostrand des Kraichgaus.
Die Gegend um Bad Wimpfen war bereits um 450 v. Chr. von den Kelten besiedelt. Begünstigt wurde dies durch die fruchtbare Landschaft. Ein anderer Grund war eine alte Handelsstraße, die hier den Neckar überquerte. Auch in römischer Zeit um 85 n. Chr. war die Gegend besiedelt. Bei Wimpfen im Tal stand nachweislich eine Brücke über den Neckar; ein Kastell gegenüber der Jagstmündung diente wohl zur militärischen Sicherung. Auf der anderen Seite des Flusses verlief zunächst der Neckar-Odenwald-Limes. Als diese Grenzlinie in Richtung Osten verschoben wurde, gab es wohl in Wimpfen im Tal eine blühende Siedlung, dies belegen zahlreiche Funde römischer Statuen, auch unter dem Namen Wimpfener Götterhimmel bekannt. Nach dem Ende der römischen Herrschaft um 260 n.Chr. begann dann der Zerfall der römischen Bauwerke.
