The Gorges of Dobrudja do not resemble the keys that we used in the Carpathians, whether they are smaller or larger. The valley here is wide, meandered, and the limestone walls are quite a distance from the water. The height of the walls is not high, 30-40 meters, but the keys here have something special, a unique attraction you can not find in the Carpathians. The limestones here are reefs, which preserve the traces of the former atolls in the form of ruinous relief. The atolls formed in the warm warmth that covered the Jurassic and Cretaceous area of Dobrogea (Thetis Sea - 180-100 million years ago) are still visible in the walls of the gorges. The scaffolds of coral colonies, deposited in more or less circular shapes, can be seen very well over the entire length of the keys. Palms, horseshoes, pyramids, towers, recognize them immediately if you have used your eye and you know what to look for. In the central area of the keys, a rectangular tower is well kept. It looks like a cooling tower from a miniaturized thermal power plant ... and it has deposits of sediment covered with grass inside.

Enisala Ancient Medieval Fortress
The fortress, located 2 km far from Enisala locality, on a calcareous hill which rises above Razim and Babadag lakes area, was built in the second half of the 14th century, for military purpose, probably by the Genoese merchants, owners of the monopole on the Black Sea navigation. It has an irregular polygonal plane which follows the sinuosity of the land; the walls and bastions maintain a 5-10 m height at some points. Integrated during the reign of Mircea the Old in the defence system of Wallachia, the fortress was abandoned in the context of the Turkish domination advance north of the Danube Mouths (end of the 15th century) and as a consequence of the formation of the offshore sand bars which separate the Razim Lake from the Black Sea.

Iarna lungă de la munte ne-a obligat să căutăm alternative cicloturiste prin zonele mai calde ale țării...așa am ajuns în Dobrogea! Ca atracții principale ne-am dorit Munții Măciunului, Biserica Paleo-Creștină de la Niculițel, Cetățile Enisala și Histria, Podișul Casimcei, Peștera Casian, Cheile Dobrogei și Lacul Iacobdeal. În primul episod trecem din prezent la trecut, adică pornim din Brăila și ajungem până la Gura Dobrogei, bucurându-ne de istoria de pe drum: paleo-creștină, otomană și antică. Bine, pe cea pe care nu am ratat-o, din cauze mai mult sau mai puțin subiective! Ne-a plăcut aventura, însă podișul și câmpia nu sunt zone pe care să ni le dorim la pedalat, dar ne bucurăm că am mai pus o zonă a țării pe harta explorărilor personale.

Transylvania, Romania Travel Video - Locals sometimes shake their heads over the ‘Dracula connection’, but there’s no denying a sense of spookiness about this broad, mountainous, culturally rich region, which fills the bulk of Romania’s centre. But really the Dracula thing is such a small part of a visit here, and you’re likely to forget about it along the way. Saxon towns such as Sighişoara, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca and Braşov evoke medieval life; all make fine hubs, with hikes, ski runs, horse markets and cute villages within an hour or two. Much of the fun comes from hikes through the interlocking Carpathians (sometimes called the Transylvanian Alps), which create a U-shape on all of Transylvania’s sides but the north. Skiing is best in the Bucegi Mountains’ Prahova Valley, but outdoors enthusiasts debate what’s best for summer fun –hiking to underground rivers of the Apuseni, rock climbing at Piatra Craiului National Park, biking atop the flat Bucegi plateau, exploring the largely unknown Retezat or hiking the knee-torturing Făgăraş.
Transylvania, part of Romania only since 1918, benefits from its diverse ancestors. Saxons occupied southern Transylvanian towns, and most villages you pass are dotted with fortified churches that date back half a millennium. Going an hour north into Székely Land and towns like Târgu Mureş (Marosvásárhely) with sizeable ethnic Hungarian communities, feels like going into a different country. Throughout you’re likely to spot many Roma villagers – identifiable by black cowboy hats on the men and extravagant red dresses on the women – who sometimes usher passers-by in for meals.
So much is in Transylvania – it’s no surprise that it’s often the only part of Romania experienced by tourists.

As Wikipedia says The Măcin Mountains are one of the oldest in Romania, being formed in the second part of the Paleozoic, in the Carboniferous and Permian, during the Hercynian orogeny. The predominant rock is granite. Erosion (caused by the difference of temperature) has created steep slopes, with the aspect of ruins.
They are divided in Culmea Măcinului (the southern part) and Culmea Pricopanului (the northern part). The highest peak is Țuțuiatu (also called Greci), which has a height of 467 meters. Other important peaks are Priopcea Hill (410 m) and Muntele lui Iacob (Iacob's Mountain – 341 m).
Besides the Balkanic and sub-Mediterranean forests, the Măcin Mountains also have a considerable swathe of steppe, making it a delightful site for birds. The area is a staging point for various migratory bird species, especially raptors, who arrive here in autumn.[1] The region is home to species such as European turtle dove, red-rumped swallow, common and isabelline wheatears, ortolan bunting and several others. Măcin Mountains are also the hunting grounds of the long-legged buzzard (Buteo rufinus), one of Europe's largest buzzards. It shares the mountains with other birds of prey such as short-toed eagle, booted eagle, Levant sparrowhawk and saker falcon.
