My Tho is located about 70 kilometers out of Ho Chi Minh City. It is an amiable market town that nestles on the north bank of the Mekong River’s northernmost strand, the Tien Giang, or Upper River. Ben Tre is a coastal province in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam, connected by a bridge to the busy market town of Mỹ Tho. Coming to Ben Tre, you will be immersed in a green land with coconut trees, rice fields, fruits gardens, rivers, and canals.
For those who want to visit My Tho and Ben Tre in one day, Mekong Delta tour 1 day (My tho – Ben Tre) is the best choice. This trip provides a fascinating insight into daily life in the Mekong Delta and you are guaranteed to take home your own private collection of beautiful memories.
Along the way, we can enjoy the beautiful scene of green rice fields, see the peaceful Vam Co Dong river and the busy Long An town
When we arrive at My Tho, we will visit Vinh Trang pagoda – a national historical and cultural relic. It is the greatest pagoda of Tien Giang Province, surrounded by gardens of ornamental trees, ancient trees and bonsai, creating a peaceful atmosphere. The architecture of Vinh Trang Pagoda is a harmonious combination of Asian and European types of architecture.
Visitors will leisurely take boat ride along the river and appreciate the wonderful view of the stilt houses, fruit plantations and fishing villages along the river bank.
The boat will proceed to Tortoise islet – a beautiful natural spot, ideal for a short trek through some winding trails. We will have lunch in the orchard garden.
Then, we continue to take a boat ride to An Khanh – a less touristy attraction in Ben Tre. Here, we will experience cruising on a hand-rowed sampan under the shadow of the water coconut trees along natural canals. And we also enjoy seasonal fruit and honey tea and listen to the sound of Southern Vietnamese folk music performed by locals.
The next place we will visit is a family business which epitomizes the idyllic rural lifestyle. Here, we will have the chance to taste the delicious coconut candy, observe the pastoral life as you wander through the fruit plantation and village.

MEKONG RIVER TOUR IN BEN TRE
You can visit the Mekong River on a day trip from Saigon, but I wanted to spend more time in the Mekong Delta so I stayed two nights in Ben Tre.
You can explore the Mekong River on an organized tour but I wanted to go on my own, so I rented a motorboat for VND 250,000 per hour for three hours, which at the time comes out to about USD 32. We visited a brick factory and a coconut processing plant. We also rode a small canoe to explore the smaller channels of the river.
If you're traveling in a group, then I think renting a motorboat is the better option. You'll have the boat all to yourself and you can explore the Mekong River on your own time. Most people just do day trips from Ho Chi Minh City but if you have the time, then you may want to spend a night or two in Ben Tre.

Known by Vietnamese as the “Land of Coconut”, Ben Tre is one the best area to explore the untouched and natural landscapes of Mekong Delta and discover its local life, beautiful canals and traditional activities. An authentic and relaxing experience!
Depart from Saigon and head straight to Ben Tre (90 km ~ 2 hour drive). On arrival board a small boat to visit typical workplaces including small brick factories, a coconut processing workshop and a local mat-weaving house.
Stop at a quiet village, take a short walk to witness local life and hop on a xe-lôi (a kind of motorized rickshaw) to reach a nice riverside restaurant for a local lunch. You will have chance to learn how to cook local special food in cooking class here. After lunch, take a short cycling tour to explore the surrounding fields before boarding a sampan for a tranquil trip along the picturesque canals.
Come back to the Hung Vuong port and continue to visit Ben Tre Local Market before heading back to Saigon and return to Saigon.
