The Bucharest Zoo is located in sector 1 of Bucharest. The park was established in 1955 in the form of a service of the Communal Household Section of the People's Council of the Capital.
Bucharest Zoo
At that time, small herds of animals were spread in the parks of Cismigiu, Carol I, Herastrau and in the Baneasa Forest.
Between 1955 and 1959, a progressive concentration of animals took place in the Băneasa Zoo, where on May 1, 1959, the first visiting season opened.
Starting with 1962, the title of the institution became the Bucharest Zoo and in the same year, it was included in the International Yearbook of Zoos (International Zoo Yearbook, edited by the Zoological Society of London).
The zoo, with a total area of 5.85 ha, is a public establishment that maintains and exhibits collections of live, wild, indigenous and exotic animals, in order to achieve two main goals: wildlife conservation (with priority to endangered species) and training, educating and recreating the visiting public.

Yeah, you read that right. Today we're staying in Romania's newest luxury property, smack on the beautiful Danube river, and we have the place ALL TO OURSELVES! After visiting the magnificent Corvin's Castle up in Hunedoara, which is one of the seven wonder's of Romania, we head south all the way to the border of Serbia and Romania. We checked in to YRYS House, a bran new water front property right on the Danube River! We seriously never want to leave this place. Our gracious host even took us out on his boat for the sunset and showed us the Tabula Traiana, a 2,000 year old artifact right on the Danube River cliffside!
