Băile Herculane
Când eram mică mergeam adesea cu părinții în Băile Herculane, mai exact în zona 7 izvoare, pentru că în stațiunea propriu zisă nu erau decât ruine. Îmi amintesc perfect cum ne duceam în centru, în fiecare sejur, sperând ca lucrurile să se fi schimbat.
Nu am înțeles niciodată cum a fost posibil ca o stațiune atât de frumoasă și renumită în toată Europa să ajungă în această situație.
Începând cu anul 2012 stațiunea a început ușor, ușor să-și revină, odată ce mari investitori au decis să renoveze câteva hoteluri ceaușiste, printre care și Afrodita Resort & SPA, care a fost adus la standarde de 4 stele, iar anul acesta, după aproape 20 de ani am observat schimbări majore în toată stațiunea!
Mai sunt foarte multe de pus la punct, multe investiții de atras, dar pentru prima dată, stațiunea mi s-a părut vie, în sfârșit nu mai este o stațiune fantomă, iar acest lucru mă bucură teribil!
Nu degeaba vin medici renumiți din Europa să se trateze aici, nu degeaba apa termală de la Herculane îmbuteliată de brandul ivatherm este atât de apreciată în întreaga lume!

Băile Herculane este un oraș în județul Caraș-Severin, Banat, România, format din localitățile componente Băile Herculane (reședința) și Pecinișca.
Stațiunea este situată în partea de sud-vest a României, la o altitudine de 168 m, la 8 km distanța de granița cu județul Mehedinți și doar 25 de km de frontiera cu Serbia.
Stațiune milenară menționată sub denumirea „Ad aqua Herculi sacras ad Mediam”.
Factori naturali: climat de depresiune intramontană, cu influențe submediteraneene, sedativ-indiferent; ape minerale izotermale și hipertermale (38-60 °C), slab radioactive, hipotone, cu diferite compoziții chimice:
sulfuroase, clorurate, calcice, sodice;
clorurate, sodice, calcice;
oligominerale.
Posibilități de tratament: aerohelioterapie, băi termale, în bazin descoperit, băi termale sulfuroase și sărate,în vane și bazine acoperite; buvete pentru cură internă cu ape minerale, instalații de hidrotermoterapie (și saună), electroterapie, chinetoterapie, hidrochinetoterapie, în bazine; inhaloterapie; cură de teren. Din stațiune se pot face excursii la ruinele băilor romane, Peștera Hoților(Grota Haiducilor), Grota cu Aburi, Crucea alba, și altele.
Originea Băilor Herculane se întinde pe o durată de aproape două milenii. Bazele stațiunii au fost puse în anul 102 d.Ch. de Împaratul Traian, romanii introducând cultul balnear preluat de la greci pe care apoi l-au dezvoltat. Numele stațiunii de care este legat si numele societății noastre, vine de la zeul Hercules, fiul lui Zeus și al frumoasei Elena, consemnat în mitologia romană ca patron al izvoarelor termale, simbol al puterii și al echilibrului între forța fizică și cea spirituală.
Romanii au construit aici, la Therme Herculi (Ad Aquas Herculi Sacras), temple, băi, monumente și statui, închinate zeilor Hercules, Aesculap și Hygieia. Atestarea documentară a stațiunii datează din anii 153 d.C., fapt consemnat într-o tabulă votivă din băi: „Zeilor și divinităților apelor, Ulpius Secundinus, Marius Valens, Pomponius Haemus, lui Carus, Val, Valens, trimiși ca delegați romani să asiste la alegerea în calitate de consul a fostului lor coleg Severianus, întorcându-se nevătămați, au ridicat acest prinos de recunoștință”. În perioada civilizației romane, stațiunea de pe Valea Cernei a constituit un important punct de atracție pentru aristrocația Romei antice. Impresionați de excepționala putere tămăduitoare a apelor sacre de pe Valea Cernei, romanii sosiți în Dacia le-au închinat un adevărat cult balnear sub semnul tutelar al lui Hercules.
După retragerea administrației și armatei romane, în timpul împăratului Aurelian, sub presiunea populațiilor migratoare, băile au decăzut mult comparativ cu perioada de strălucirile din vremea romană, deși menținerea numelui indică, că băile au fost folosite tot timpul următor.
Existența neîntreruptă de două milenii a stațiunii Băile Herculane a fost favorizată de eficacitatea miraculoasă a izvoarelor termale, fiind socotite un „dar al zeilor” dar și de pitoreasca așezare a stațiunii într-o vale adăpostită de munți, de o frumusețe aparte. Dotarea tehnico-edilitară de prim rang la un confort de înaltă ținută și bogata diversificare a metodelor de tratament de la cura balneară clasică la diverse metode de fizio și electroterapie, masaje, acupunctură, etc. au conferit acestei stațiuni un înalt grad de atractivitate. Multiplele mijloace de recreare și divertisment, restaurante, baruri, terase de vară, bazine de înot cu apă termală, saună, masaj, biliard, etc. - precum și posibilitățile de drumeție și excursii în stațiune și pe Valea Cernei, constituie o atracție în plus pentru vizitatorii orașului stațiune balneară Băile Herculane.

The Peștera Hoților (Cave of the Thieves), contains multiple levels, including one from the Mousterian period, one from the Mesolithic period (late Epigravettian) and several from the later Neolithic periods.
Legend has it that the weary Hercules stopped in the valley to bathe and rest. Unearthed stone carvings show that visiting Roman aristocrats turned the town into a Roman leisure center. Six statues of Hercules from the time have been discovered. A bronze replica of one of them, molded in 1874, stands as a landmark in the town center.[citation needed] Austrian and Ottoman troops clashed here after the Ottoman victory in the battle of Mehadia on 30 August 1788. The Ottomans won the skirmish, took the town on 7 September 1788 and advanced to Caransebeș. It was retaken by the Austrians at the end of September 1789.
In modern times, the spa town has been visited for its supposedly natural healing properties: hot springs with sulfur, chlorine, sodium, calcium, magnesium and other minerals, as well as negatively ionized air. Before World War II, when the first modern hotel was built (i.e. H Cerna, 1930) it remained a popular destination with Western Europeans. During the Communist rule, mass tourism facilities were built, such as the 8- to 12-storied concrete hotels Roman, Hercules A, Hercules B, Afrodita, Minerva, Diana, UGSR, etc. which dominate the skyline. It was visited by all kinds of people, but was especially popular with employees and retirees, who would spend their state-allotted vacation vouchers there, hoping to improve their health. Today, they share the town with a younger crowd. New privately owned pensions and hotels appeared after 1989, along the Cerna/Tiena river banks, spread from the train station to the end of the hydroelectrical dam. Some of the Austro-Hungarian era buildings are derelict for the time being, including many of the baths, because of bad management after privatization.

Chipul lui Decebal translates in English to the Face of Decebalus, it's the tallest stone sculpture in Europe, and can be found on the Banks of the Danube (the second longest river in Europe) and the river that Borders Romania with Serbia and Bulgaria to the south.
Băile Herculane is a semi-abandoned but gorgeous spa town, once well known throughout Europe for its natural hot springs with healing qualities, this Spa Town is home to the Apollo Baths, a renovated bath built over the remains of the old roman baths that were here.
Severin is a city nearby Chipul Lui Decebal where Trajan's Bridge was built, Emperor Trajan was a roman emperor who fought against Decebalus to try to conquer Dacia. at Severin is also located Cetatea Medievală a Severinului, an old Hungarian fortress dating back to the 13th century with many remains still standing today.
