Am fost cazati in Sapanta, am vizitat Cimitirul vesel din Sapanta, Manastirea din Sapanta, Cascada Sapanta, Biserica de lemn de la Plopis, Biserica de lemn de la Budesti, Manastirea Budesti, Biserica de lemn de la Surdesti, Manastirea Barsana si am petrecut o zi in Viseu pe Valea Vaserului in Mocanita.

Manastirea Barsana Monastery - Muzeul de icoane, museum of Icons - Maramures ep10 - travel video
Continuam calatoria prin Maramures, Romania
Astăzi vom vizita Muzeul Icoanelor și Cărților Vechi aflat în incinta Complexului Monahal Bârsana
Muzeul are parter și două etaje. Chiar la intrare se află un stand de unde se pot cumpăra obiecte bisericești și suveniruri, în restul parterului sunt expuse icoane vechi și cărți bisericești vechi adunate din zonă. La primul etaj se afla o frumoasa expozitie etnografica din Maramures, iar la ultimul etaj, singura construita doar din lemn, expozitie de vanzare in care sunt icoane pe sticla si alte obiecte realizate de maici.

Today we will visit the Museum of Icons and Old Books located inside the Barsana Monastic Complex
The museum has a ground floor and two floors. Right at the entrance there is a stand where you can buy church objects and souvenirs, in the rest of the ground floor are exposed old icons and old church books gathered from the area. On the first floor there is a beautiful ethnographic exhibition from Maramures, and on the top floor, the only one built only of wood, an exhibition for sale in which there are icons on glass and other objects made by nuns.

--MARAMURES WHAT TO DO—
We stayed in Botiza from where we did the following:
► Visit the Merry Cemetery close to the Ukrainian boarder.It’s a busy place with a lot of tourists, but it’s definitely worth seeing!
► Visit Bârsana Monastery on top of the hill. Also note that the old church is not on the ground anymore as I explained in the video! You’ll need to drive to an other spot to find it.
► Look up the wooden churches on the map, and just visit some of them. Also the ones not on the world heritage list are very beautiful! Call the number on the church to watch inside, if you’re lucky there’s a guide, sometimes English speaking.
► Hike, the surroundings are beautiful! And with the hills not being too steep it’s a pleasure walking here.
--WHERE TO SLEEP BOTIZA, MARAMURES--
We stayed in Pensiunea Sidau Parasca. Which was a great place! Very friendly people, good bed and good (local) food. We got great breakfasts and dinners! The hosts don’t speak much English.
Also George Iurca was recommended online, since he knows a lot about history as well!
--WHERE TO EAT BOTIZA, MARAMURES--
Since we only ate at the house we stayed in, we didn’t experience much outside. And also I do remember there were not a lot of restaurants from what I saw.
--TRANSPORTATION—
► We had our own car to go around which I would highly recommend. Lots of places are in rural area’s so it’s very convenient to have your own kind of transport here.

Discover Romania | Bârsana Monastery (1720), Maramureș
Pelerinaj în Maramureș, România | Mănăstirea Bârsana (1720)
Bârsana Monastery is located in the northwest of Romania, in the historical Maramureș, on the Iza valley. It is a popular pilgrimage site in Maramureș area and one of the favorite destinations of tourists. Built of wood, according to the local tradition, the monastic complex has the specific Maramureș gate, a bell tower, the 57 m heigh church, the summer altar and the artists’ house.
Built in 1720, Bârsana church is a unique combination of the Byzantine plan and Gothic forms. The interior of the church is divided into separated halls according to the traditional Orthodox ritual. The interior frescoes were painted on wood by Toader Hodor in 1806, and then fixed on the walls. With their Baroque and Rococo influences, the paintings are quaite impressive.
Bârsana Monastery houses an important collection of icons painted on glass and old religious books. Bârsana Church is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Barsana Monastery is one of the landmarks of Maramures. The reason being that, is the beautiful church and the other wooden buildings made by craftsmen from Maramures inside of assembly.
The Barsana Monastery church is one of the tallest wooden church in Romania, having 57m height. Also at Bârsana there is a second church which is part of the UNESCO world heritage.
