Atami is a popular get-away destination and an easy day trip from Tokyo. Known for its onsen, or hot springs, it's a great place to relax and enjoy the seaside. It is also home to some great street food! In today's video, Shizuka takes us around two popular shopping streets, Ekimae Heiwa Shopping Street and Nakamise Shopping Street, to sample Amtami's best snacks!
Shizuka tries a wide variety of senbei, or rice crackers, and some traditional sweets like onsen manju (sweet steamed buns). She also is surprised by a sweet mix of Japanese and western flavors in the popular Atami Butter An, and by some -interesting- spicy ice cream. Shizuka also attempts to make onsen tamago, aka eggs soft boiled in the steam of the onsen, on the side of the road! Watch to find out our recommendations for the best street food in Atami!

Exploring Japan's MIRACLE Seaside Onsen Town | Atami | Tokyo Trip Ideas
Hello viewers. This time, I am visiting Atami Onsen. It is a contender for Japan's Number One Onsen, challenging Kusatsu Onsen. It was an extremely popular onsen of the last century, and the preferred place to chill by legendary Japanese writers like Osamu Dazai. This town is often referred to as a miracle, as it managed to survived a harsh decline in popularity, emerging once again in modern times as one of Japan's top vacation spots with its scenic seaside views and retro charm.
The drive towards Atami Onsen is also very beautiful. This 2D1N trip is the perfect getaway from Tokyo, and should not be missed if you are visiting Japan.

Trivia: My friend YouTuber Tokyo Explorer ( ) and I visited Atami coincidentally almost at the same time. (Only 1 day difference) I didn't want to clash with his video so I postponed uploading this one till now. It's shot in September and everyone was still wearing T-shirts. Tattoo friendly onsen in Japan. A Japanese hot springs near Tokyo in Atami and Food Tour experience at a Japanese Ryokan.

Traditional Japanese Ryokan food menu that is definitely worth experiencing if you have never been to Japan. Japanese Onsen also known as hot springs are difficult to find in the Tokyo, but about a 40 minute train ride from Shinagawa station in Tokyo, you can make it to the Atami Onsen and Atami beach area. There are many local onsens and ryokans in this area but this place I am showing you in this video is tattoo friendly meaning that they accept people with tattoos just as long as you are a respectful guest. I also show you the different types of food you can experience and enjoy in a Japanese ryokan for dinner and for breakfast. Also, at this hotel, you can reserve a private onsen bath if you are a bit hesitant to share a public onsen bath with other guests. You can choose to enjoy the private bath before or after dinner. In our case, we chose to take our onsen before our meal. We also venture out of the hotel to have some Atami food, but do to the train we couldn't film that much. We'll definitely have to come back for a full food tour of the area.

If you visit the city of Atami, you have to check out the castle. Unfortunately, it's not a historical spot but rather a new building that hast been finished in 1959.
Nevertheless, it's a really cool place to visit, specially because you will have the opportunity to get over there via a nice ropeway ride. When you arrive to the top, you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view on the whole city.
