map of North West England

North West England is one of the best and most popular of nine official regions of England and consists of the administrative counties of #1 ranked Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. The North West had a population of 7,052,000 in 2011. It is the third-most-populated region in the United Kingdom, after the South East and Greater London. The largest settlements are Manchester and Liverpool. North West England is bounded to the east by the Pennines and to the west by the Irish Sea. The region extends from the Scottish Borders in the north to the West Midlands region in the south. To its southwest is North Wales. Amongst the better known of the North West's physiographical features are the Lake District and the Cheshire Plain. The highest point in North West England (and the highest peak in England) is Scafell Pike, Cumbria, at a height of 3,209 feet (978 m).

Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, while Broad Crag Tarn on Broad Crag is England's highest lake. Wast Water is England's deepest lake, being 74 metres deep.

A mix of rural and urban landscape, two large conurbations, centred on Liverpool and Manchester, occupy much of the south of the region. The north of the region, comprising Cumbria and northern Lancashire, is largely rural, as is the far south which encompasses parts of the Cheshire Plain and Peak District.

The region includes parts of three National parks (all of the Lake District, and small parts of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales) and three areas of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (all of Arnside and Silverdale and the Solway Coast, and almost all of the Forest of Bowland The North West is generally regarded as having the most average weather in the UK. Temperatures are generally close to the national average. Cumbria usually experiences the most severe weather, with high precipitation in the mountainous regions of the Lake District and Pennines. In winter, the most severe weather occurs in the more exposed and elevated areas of the North West, once again mainly the Lake District and Pennine areas.

Parts of the North West experienced a White Christmas in 2009, and again in 2010, where sleet and snow fell on December 25.

The A635 was closed for almost a month in January 2010 due to high amounts of snowfall.

Kevin Duffy Rectory Nurseries Part 1

Kevin Duffy self taught or outsider Artist, lives in Ashton in Makerfield Wigan.
He bought a house next to an allotment field and began clearing the land, which took six years. During this time he began selling plants to passers by and slowley his reputation grew. Almost by accident he transformed the allotment into a business. He eventually sold the house and built a bungalow on the site where he now lives and manages the business with his son Carl.
The garden is a very special place, it is completely unexpected, despite being so close to the road it remains an unknown treasure. The garden did feature on the BBC northwest tonight programme in October 2006, where it was compared
to Portmeirion in Wales. Kevin is rightfully proud of his work and intends to continue developing and expanding it. The work is a life lond passion for Kevin, and he gets much pleasure from seeing people enjoying the space. A visit is highly recommended, there is nothing quite like it.

Description thanks to Ian Jackson Liverpool University.

WIGAN - ENGLAND..........

Wigan an old industrial town in the north west of england, famous for its rugby league, football and wigan casino and pier.

A Walk around Wigan

A beautiful town that I'd never been to before. Lots of construction happening right now, so it's a place of transition. Maybe I'll go back and see what it looks like after all the work is done.

66779 Evening Star Storms Bryn - 24th May 2019

GBRF's specially liveried 66779 Evening Star storms through Bryn station on the evening of Friday 24th May 2019, you can tell it's a bank holiday weekend as he sure as heck isn't hanging around. The Class 66 was on the Kelbits Stone job today which consists of two round trips from Tuebrook (near Edge Hill, Liverpool) to Kelbits in Ashton-in-Makerfield, this was the last run of the day and it shows, just look at all the dust getting kicked up ;)

It was great to finally catch this one as the last time it came near to Wigan I was out of the country, it seems GBRF are finally sending more of their special liveries a bit further north :D

Thanks for watching and subscribe to see more rail videos coming soon. If you like aircraft then check out Expo Aviation, my aviation video channel.

Joseph's Goal - Latics Legends vs Dutch Masters [Isidro Díaz Goal]

Isidro Díaz Goal from the Latics Legends vs Dutch Masters Charity Football match held at Ashton Town Football Club, Ashton in Makerfield, Wigan in aid of Joseph's Goal.

Joseph's Goal is a registered charity in England and Wales number 1151548. Joseph's Goal exists to raise funds and awareness into NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia), which is so rare, and as a result so little research has been undertaken, literally every penny raised can and will make a real difference.

The weather wasn’t the best but we made the best out of a bad situation and got what we needed doing done so all was well by the end of the three days! Enjoy!

Sixfields £1.50 Fun Fair Vlog | John Scarrott’s & Sons | Northampton | April 2021

YEEEEESSSSSS Fun Fair Fans!!!!!!!

Welcome back in this Fun Fair Vlog I travel down to Sixfields in Northampton to visit John Scarrott & Sons £1.50 Fun Fair. This Fair is huge and offers great value for money with all rides £1.50 with the exception of The Dogems and Vortex which was £2 each. The Fair is free to enter but avoid busy periods where if it reaches capacity it’s one in one out basis. Plenty of free parking and all Covid measures are in place for your safety while visiting. The Fair is also fully fenced in and security and Covid marshals are placed around the grounds. Open 7 days a week till 10pm which is awesome and it’s on till the 9th May 2021.
In the Vlog I’m joined with GaffLad Shane aka Shane Superbob who was a absolute star and really made the Vlog funny with his antics and banter and was a pleasure to spend time with. He’ll definitely be back for future Vlogs and he can certainly ride machines.
Plenty on offer here in terms of rides something for everyone but I’ll let the vlog showcase the rides on offer but it was nice to get on Scarrott’s brand new Dogem set along with other favourites. Full showcase of all rides including off ride footage and POVs throughout however I totally forgot to mention the Rotor in the Vlog but it’s there if you enjoy those rides.
Great few hours spent here plenty of extreme rides, family favourites, juveniles, game stalls and catering so if you are in the area go and support these showmen you won’t forget it especially at £1.50 a ride.

I hope you enjoy the Vlog sorry it’s a long one but we rode quite a bit but anyway thanks for watching remember to LIKE the video, leave a COMMENT and SUBSCRIBE if you haven’t already it all helps in making more content for you all.

BUSES IN BRISTOL OCT 2023

the worlds largest collection of transport hobby DVDs featuring buses, lorries, trams and trolleybuses worldwide. Also a vast array of archives you never see on Youtube! Plus digital downloads and links to half a million still images.Welcome to the world of PMP films owned by Dave and Mandy Spencer. It is really a hobby for us and we take great pleasure in meeting with other transport enthusiasts around the world.

The origins of PMP go back to the 1970s when we sold photographs at local transport society meetings in Manchester.

We had a brief period selling models which gave us the PMP name. Peover Model Promotions which also alludes to our home village in the Cheshire countryside.

At the end of the 1980s we started filming on video and by 1989 had launched video sales. We were fortunate in having good friends who gave us access to archive cine film which broadened our range both in time and locations.

As video faded as a format we started to produce DVDs and in 2010 commenced filming in HD or high definition which produces startling quality although it handles motion less well. Our films feature transport items unless stated otherwise. This means natural sound with no narration or music added. We are not a Hollywood production company so don't expect Ice Road Truckers, our budget is a tank of fuel not a million dollars. One customer complained that his trucking DVD had nothing but trucks on it- you just cannot win. After having a knee replacement in Sept 2015 Dave retired from his 'day' job and now works full time bringing you more films than ever.

For snail mail or reference you can download our order form which can be posted or emailed through to us. Use the links to our Smug Mug site for purchasing still photos and downloads. Digital still downloads for all our images was added in 2018 on our Smugmug site together with the introduction of DVD digital downloads on this our own site. Digital downloads for DVDs are on our shop for releases mid 2018 onwards. We expect to be on full spec optical fibre autumn 2023 and this will greatly speed up putting our downloads on the shop.

Our archive feature images are where possible selected from HD scanned cine film for archives with a high standard of reproduction. We use NEAT to clean old film and video, de interlacing when required, up quality where needed to HD and adjust speed to 50-60fps.
Dave now manages the new OTA channel on Youtube and is working with OTA to scan moving images in their collection and also assisting the reintroduction of railway films formerly compiled by Jeremy English.

Dave is also working with friends around the world to introduce new model buses in 4mm scale to a high detail spec.

We are also branch sec and Chair for Cheshire, Wirral and Nth Wales branch of the British Polio Fellowship, Patrons of the Royal Northern College of music and sponsors of the North West Vehicle Restoration Trust.
