Arbore Monastery/Church, 1503, Bucovina, Romania
Perhaps a tour of Bucovina’s Painted Monasteries should begin here. After all, the highlight of the small Arbore Church is a scene from Genesis, which adorns the western wall. The only church in the region with no belfry towers, because it was not built by a prince, the monastery was founded in 1503 by Luca Arbore, the advisor of Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare). It was painted four decades later by Dragos Coman, one of the greatest 16th century mural painters of Romania.

In this episode you will see Piatra Neamț, including a beautiful ride above the town in the local gondola transport system. This is the last episode of the series.
A very nice and relaxing holiday spent in Romania, with a focus on Bucovina monasteries - many of which are on the UNESCO heritage list. One episode (day) every Saturday.
As we travelled during the Covid pandemic and just before Easter, there were almost no tourists around, therefore we felt quite safe during the entire holiday.
We visited the following monasteries: Văratec, Agapia, Sucevița, Putna, Bogdana, Arbore, Moldovița, Voroneț, Humorului and Dragomirna.
In addition you will see: Onești town (Trotus Hotel), Târgu Ocna Salt Cave, Slănic Moldova Resort, Rădăuți town, Vatra Dornei Resort and Piatra Neamț town.
We will also present you the hotels and guest houses we stayed in during our trip, as well as the food we had and the related prices.

Biserica Tăierea Capului Sfântului Ioan Botezătorul din Arbore (cunoscută și ca Biserica Arbore, deși nu este singura biserică din localitate) este o biserică ortodoxă construită în anul 1502 în satul Arbore din comuna omonimă (județul Suceava) de către hatmanul Luca Arbore. Ea se remarcă prin pictura murală exterioară. Biserica Arbore are hramul Tăierea Capului Sfântului Ioan Botezătorul (sărbătorit în fiecare an pe 29 august).
În anul 1993, Organizația Națiunilor Unite pentru Educație, Știință și Cultură (UNESCO) a inclus Biserica Arbore, împreună cu alte 6 biserici din nordul Moldovei (Humor, Moldovița, Pătrăuți, Probota, Suceava (Sf. Ioan cel Nou) și Voroneț), pe lista patrimoniului cultural mondial, în grupul Bisericile pictate din nordul Moldovei.

The Moldovița Monastery (Romanian: Mânăstirea Moldovița) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery situated in the commune of Vatra Moldoviței, Suceava County, Moldavia, Romania. The Monastery of Moldovița was built in 1532 by Petru Rareș, who was Stephen III of Moldavia's illegitimate son. It was founded as a protective barrier against the Muslim Ottoman conquerors from the East.

Potrivit vechilor cronici moldovenești zidirea mănăstirii, ctitorie a lui Ștefan cel Mare (al cărui mormânt se află aici), a început în anul 1466 și s-a terminat în 1469.
???? Mănăstirea Sucevița ( )
este o mănăstire ortodoxă din România, construită între anii 1583-1586 și situată în satul Sucevița din comuna omonină (județul Suceava), la o distanță de 18 km de municipiul Rădăuți.
Arhitectura îmbină elemente de artă bizantină și gotică, la care se adaugă elemente de arhitectură ale vechilor biserici din lemn din Moldova. Pictura murală interioară și exterioară este de o mare valoare artistică, fiind o amplă narațiune biblică din Vechiul și Noul Testament.

???? Mănăstirea Moldovița ( )
este una din vechile așezări călugărești, cu un important și glorios trecut istoric, situată în comuna Vatra Moldoviței din județul Suceava, la o distanță de circa 15 km de comuna Vama.
Originea acestei mănăstiri rămâne învăluită în negura vremii, tradiția amintind de existența ei încă din timpul voievozilor Mușatini, care au ocrotit-o.
Voievodul Petru Rareș, iubitor de artă ca și tatăl său, Ștefan cel Mare, vrând să continue existența Mănăstirii Moldovița, a ales locul puțin mai la șes de vechea biserică a lui Alexandru cel Bun și a construit actuala biserică a Moldoviței în anul 1532, închinând-o aceluiași hram „Buna Vestire”.
???? Mănăstirea Humor ( )
(denumită uneori și Mănăstirea Humorului) este o mănăstire ortodoxă din România, construită în anul 1530 în satul Mănăstirea Humorului din comuna omonimă (aflată în prezent în județul Suceava) de către marele logofăt Toader Bubuiog.
Potrivit predaniilor din bătrâni, pe la începutul secolului al XV-lea, în perioada domniei lui Alexandru cel Bun (1400-1432), panul Ivan vornicul care era la Humor a înălțat o biserică de piatră pe malul unui pârâiaș, în apropiere de confluența acestuia cu Humorul.
???? Mănăstirea Voroneț ( )
supranumită „Capela Sixtină a Estului”, este un complex monahal medieval construit în satul Voroneț, astăzi localitate componentă a orașului Gura Humorului.
Mănăstirea se află la 36 km de municipiul Suceava și la numai 4 km de centrul orașului Gura Humorului.
Ea constituie una dintre cele mai valoroase ctitorii ale lui Ștefan cel Mare (1457-1504).
Biserica a fost ridicată în anul 1488 în numai 3 luni și 3 săptămâni, ceea ce constituie un record pentru acea vreme.
De mici proporții, cu plan trilobat, având turla cu boltă moldovenească pe naos, biserica face parte dintre puținele monumente de arhitectură religioasă din nordul Moldovei care-și păstrează în mare măsură forma inițială.
???? Mănăstirea Agapia ( )
(denumită și Mănăstirea Agapia Nouă pentru diferențiere de Schitul Agapia Veche) este o mănăstire ortodoxă de maici din România, situată pe valea pârâului Agapia, la o distanță de 9 km de orașul Târgu Neamț.
Ea se află amplasată în mijlocul unei păduri, la o distanță de 3 km de satul Agapia (județul Neamț).
Este una dintre cele mai mari mănăstiri de maici din România, având 300-400 maici și aflându-se pe locul doi ca populație după Mănăstirea Văratec.
Mănăstirea a fost construită între anii 1641-1643. Arhitectura bisericii nu are un stil specific. Ceea ce conferă o deosebită valoare acestui monument sunt frescele pictate de Nicolae Grigorescu în perioada 1858-1861.

LIVING OFF-GRID in Romanian countryside ????????
We visited our friend, @AlexJurj who has been living off grid in a Romanian countryside in Cluj-Napoca. He has a farm, and is building his own earth house, grows his own veggies and fruits: tomatoes, pears, etc., and lives near the forest where mushrooms grow abundantly. He strives to live a sustainable life where everything a human needs for survival is available in his own backyard. He had so much fun foraging for mushroom, and even had mushroom ciorba his mom cooked for us. Check out our vlog.
