Trying Poutine in Québec | Gaspé Road Trip

We're trying one of Québec's best loved foods: poutine! We've gone straight to the source to find the real thing in the province where it all started. We're on a 10-day road trip around the beautiful Gaspé Peninsula in our home country of Canada. This maritime region is best known for its fresh seafood (stay tuned for more on that!) but you'll also find plenty of places along the drive to stop for a cheeky, indulgent poutine. In this video, we start out in Rivière-du-Loup and drive through Rimouski, Saint-Moïse, Amqui, Causapscal, Routhierville, and Matapédia, before stopping for the night in Carleton-sur-mer.

He bequeathed it to his son James in 1801 who then sold it in 1809 to Matthew Stewart, a wealthy merchant in the region (according to historical research by Mr. René Bureau).

There is the Parc national de Miguasha, a national park and a site recognized for its richness in fossils, inscribed by a UNESCO committee on the World Heritage List.

The Matapédia Valley is formed within the Chic-Choc Mountains, a section of the Notre-Dame Mountains, a massif that forms an extension of the Appalachian mountain range in eastern Quebec, Canada. Its name is borrowed from the river which crosses it and from the lake which is in its center. It is located southwest of the Gaspé Peninsula and stretches over a length of 375 km.

Its mainly agricultural and forestry territory includes more than 20,000 inhabitants distributed in about thirty municipalities and mainly concentrated along the main axis of communication which crosses it from east to west, the provincial road 132. Amqui is the capital of La Matapédia and the largest city in the valley with its population of over 6,000.

The Matapédia Valley witnessed the development of the Amerindian nation of the Micmacs around 500 BC. AD French-Canadian colonization began in 1833 when Pierre Brochu settled at the head of Matapédia Lake along Kempt Road. Settlers began to settle in greater numbers towards the end of the 19th century with the development of the logging industry and the clearing of agricultural land. Tourism in the valley is developing within the Gaspésie tourist region.
