The Small Port Town of Invergordon and the Church by DRONE - Invergordon Scotland - ECTV

Invergordon (/ˌɪnvərˈɡɔːrdən/; Scottish Gaelic: Inbhir Ghòrdain or An Rubha) is a town and port in Easter Ross, in Ross and Cromarty, Highland, Scotland.[2] It lies in the parish of Rosskeen.

The town built up around the harbour which was established in 1828.[3] The area became a police burgh in 1863[4] and Invergordon Town Hall was completed in 1871.[5]

The Invergordon Grain Distillery, operated by Philippines-owned whisky giant Whyte & Mackay, was established in 1959.[6] Connected to the distillery was the Invergordon Distillery Pipe Band which was formed in 1964.[7]

In 1971, the British Aluminium Company, which was 47% owned by Reynolds Metals, opened an aluminum smelter at Invergordon.[8]

The naval institute was designed in 1914 by Edinburgh architect Stewart Kaye in anticipation of the First World War.[9] The naval base was the venue for the Invergordon Mutiny of 1931.[10] Remains of the naval base are evidenced in the tank farm lying behind the town centre; the port used to contain fuel oil and water supplies for naval ships (see Inchindown oil tanks).[11]

One German bomb hit one of the tanks during the Second World War when a large flying boat base occupied much of the northerly coast of the Cromarty Firth.[12] The naval base closed in 1956.[13] On 27–28 May 1957 the Royal Navy held a fleet review in the waters off the town.[14]

Since 1978, the former naval base has been used as a deep water port which has been visited by many large cruise liners and allows disembarkation for coach tours in the northern Highlands.[15] The port renewed its military connections in the summer of 2017, when it was visited by the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth during her sea trials.[16] On 19 June 2021 the last of the Batch-2 River-class offshore patrol vessel, HMS Spey, was commissioned at a ceremony at the former naval base. The Royal Marines Band Service was at the ceremony providing musical support.[17]

Invergordon is now the premier mural town of the Highlands and hopes to emulate the success of her mentor in Chemainus, British Columbia. Currently the town is adorned with a series of 17 murals. The paintwork created by a selection of artists tells the stories of the local community and the area. This trail is a result of a community project which was initially designed to integrate local community groups (17 in total took part). The trail, which was opened by the Princess Royal, now acts as a major tourist draw.[18]

The town is served by Invergordon railway station which lies on the Far North Line, and is in close proximity to the A9 trunk road.

As of 2012, there is a controversial scheme for a waste incinerator at the Cromarty Firth Industrial Park in Invergordon, which the Scottish government are now reviewing following protests by the local community. The £43 million plant would be built by Combined Power and Heat (Highlands) Ltd.[19]

Places to see in ( Tain - UK )

Places to see in ( Tain - UK )

Tain is a royal burgh and parish in the County of Ross, in the Highlands of Scotland. The name derives from the nearby River Tain, the name of which comes from an Indo-European root meaning 'flow'. The Gaelic name, Baile Dubhthaich, means 'Duthac's town', after a local saint also known as Duthus.

Tain railway station is on the Far North Line. The station is unmanned; in its heyday it had 30 staff. The station was opened by the Highland Railway on 1 January 1864. From 1 January 1923, the station was owned by the London Midland and Scottish Railway. Then in 1949 the British railways were nationalised as British Railways. When the railways were privatised the station became part of ScotRail.

Notable buildings in the town include Tain Tolbooth and St Duthus Collegiate Church. The town also has a local history museum, Tain Through Time, and the Glenmorangie distillery. Tain has two primary schools -Craighill (pupils - 274, April 2011) and Knockbreck (pupils - just under 120, April 2011) - and a secondary school called Tain Royal Academy with 500 pupils in summer 2014.

Tain was granted its first royal charter in 1066, making it Scotland's oldest Royal Burgh, commemorated in 1966 with the opening of the Rose Garden by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. The 1066 charter, granted by King Malcolm III, confirmed Tain as a sanctuary, where people could claim the protection of the church, and an immunity, in which resident merchants and traders were exempt from certain taxes. These led to the development of the town.

Little is known of earlier history although the town owed much of its importance to Duthac. He was an early Christian figure, perhaps 8th or 9th century, whose shrine had become so important by 1066 that it resulted in the royal charter. The ruined chapel near the mouth of the river was said to have been built on the site of his birth. Duthac became an official saint in 1419 and by the late Middle Ages his shrine was an important places of pilgrimage in Scotland. King James IV came at least once a year throughout his reign to achieve both spiritual and political aims.

A leading landowning family of the area, the Clan Munro, provided political and religious figures to the town, including the dissenter Rev John Munro of Tain (died ca. 1630). The early Duthac Chapel was the center of a sanctuary. Fugitives were by tradition given sanctuary in several square miles marked by boundary stones. During the First War of Scottish Independence, Robert the Bruce sent his wife and daughter to the sanctuary for safety. The sanctuary was violated and they were captured by forces loyal to William II, Earl of Ross who handed them over to Edward I of England The women were taken to England and kept prisoner for several years.

Tain was a parliamentary burgh, combined with Dingwall, Dornoch, Kirkwall and Wick in the Northern Burghs constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1708 to 1801 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1918. Cromarty was added to the list in 1832.

( Tain - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Tain . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Tain - UK

ALNESS ross-shire- PERRINS CENTRE- MON 9FEB 2009

Fyrish Monument near Alness Jan2021

A short walk up to the local Fyrish monument in Evanton area, near Alness in Ross-shire. The walk follows the normal tourist route through woodland with some ups and downs and leads to the monument on top of Fyrish hill.
The monument was built in 1782 on the orders of the local laird Sir Hector Munro, 8th of Novar, who was a commander in the British forces in India. The structure is a replica of the gates of Negapatum where the British beat the Dutch in the battle of Negapatum. At the time of construction the highland clearance were underway and the laird used local labour to provide famine relief.
The summit provides some great views of the Cromarty firth, the Black isle and neighbouring hills.
The video contains some aerial and ground level footage.
Best in HD/4k settings. Cheers and ATB for 2021.

Spring Northern Lights On Visit To The North Coast Of Highland Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K short Spring travel video clip, with Scottish music, of the Northern Lights on visit to the North Coast of the Highlands. The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is a spectacular natural phenomenon which can occasionally be seen in the night sky over Britain. In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis, or the northern lights, named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Galileo in 1619. Auroras seen within the auroral oval may be directly overhead, but from farther away they illuminate the poleward horizon as a greenish glow, or sometimes a faint red, as if the Sun were rising from an unusual direction. The best places to see the Northern Lights in Scotland include; Shetland Islands, Orkney Islands, Caithness, Aberdeenshire and the Moray Coast, Isle of Lewis, Isle Harris in the Outer Hebrides and the most northerly tip of Isle of Skye, Inner Hebrides, the far north west of Scotland, Wester Ross, the Cairngorms, Galloway Forest Park, Ranoch Moor and Perthshire, Angus and the coast of Fife, Calton Hill or Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. The date for astronomical spring is Sunday 20th March 2022, ending on Tuesday 21st June, while by the meteorological calendar, spring will start on Tuesday 1st March.

Applecross | Road Trip in Scotland | Places to Visit in Scotland | Bengali Travel Vlog

Applecross is a peninsula in north eastern Scotland. Applecross is a kind of remote and only accessible through two roads - which stay closed during winter due to heavy snow. However, its remoteness has helped to increased its beauty. Applecross is known for spectacular drives, 'edge of the world' feeling and magestic landscapes. Mountains, sea, lochs - Applecross is just a nature lover's paradise.

Although Applecross was in my to-do list for a long time and I was willing to stay there for few days, due to COVID, I was unable to do the same. Hence, I visited Applecross through a one day trip from the capital of scottish highlands, Inverness in September 2020. And I was blessed with a marvellous weather. Applecross is considered to be the one of the best road trip in Scotland. It is surely one of the best places to visit in Scotland. Watch the video and share your opinions.
