Peles Castle Romania Visiting this BEAUTIFUL Castle in Transylvania
This time we are visiting the beautiful Peles Castle in Romania. This was our first-ever trip to Romania and WOW were we surprised at how beautiful and cheap it was. Peles Castle is incredible!
Join us in part 1 of this Romania weekend road trip.
Arriving in Bucharest we grabbed a hire car ( you could go by train) and drove the 2 hours up into the Carpathian mountains to arrive at Peles Castle.
This first stop is part of our weekend trip to Romania so make sure you check out our other videos on this region.
Pele Castle is really important in Romanian history and was the former summer residence of the Romanian royal family. Built on the wish of the first king of Romania, King Carol I it is just a stunning Castle to visit and the inside is just beautiful.
Parking is 20 Leu about £3.70. You have a 15-minute walk up into the grounds of the castle and it's not to steep if you have mobility issues.
Walking around the grounds is free but you will need a buy a ticket to go inside. A ground floor ticket is 30 Leu and both floors are 60 Leu. Make sure you do the full tour! It very worth it. Using a camera or filming is charged at another 35 Leu.
There is a second castle to visit on the grounds and this is included in your ticket. Pelisor Castle was the summer house of the last Queen of Romania and was built in the early 20th Century. The highlight of the castle is the golden room. Floor to ceiling gold. Sadly it was closed when we visited.
You will likely spend half a day seeing all the sights and grounds at the castle.

Rumunski wspaniały klasyk, a nawet dwa klasyki! Przejechalismy dwie najwyzej położone w Rumunii trasy samochodowe! Nie było to łatwe zadanie dla naszego 27-letniego busika, któremu na zmianę grzała się chłodnica i paliły hamulce. Całe szczęscie bus był bardzo dzielny, a my moglismy dowiadczyc najwspanialszego oblicza Rumunii❤️
Zacznijmy od trasy Transfogarskiej, tej bardziej popularnej. Mówią o niej najpiękniejsza droga Europy. Nie wiem czy jest NAJ, bo każdy ma swoje NAJ, ale w naszym prywatnym worku NAJ zdecydowanie i ta trasa się znalazła. Trasa przecina pasmo Gór Fogarskich w Karpatach południowych. Liczy 151 km długosci i nie jest to trasa ani najłatwiejsza ani najbezpieczniejsza. Decydując się na przejechanie jej, trzeba ufać nie tylko swojej maszynie, ale tez swoim umiejetnosciom za kierownicą. Na trasie obowiązuje limit prędkosci do 40km/h, ale niektórzy zainspirowani słynnym odcinkiem Top Geara, głupio bawią się w rajdowców.
Drogę zbudowano w latach 1970–1974 za czasów dyktatora Nicolae Ceaușescu. Miała być istotną drogą militarną podczas ewentualnego militarnego najazdu Związku Radzieckiego na Rumunię. Zbudowanie drogi w tak krótkim czasie, w tak ciężkich warunkach, było pomysłem graniczącym z szalenstwem. Podczas jej budowy zginęło 40 budujących ją żołnierzy - tak podają źródła oficjalne. Te nieoficjalne mrożą krew w żyłach znacznie większą liczbą - kilkuset. Była to droga budowana za wszelką cenę, nawet tą najwyższą. Dzis to rumunska atrakcja nr 1.
Druga trasa to Transalpina - najwyżej położona trasa w Rumunii. W najwyższym miejscu wspina się na 2145 m n.p.m.! Ta trasa jest znacznie bardziej różnorodna krajobrazowo niż trasa Transfogarska. Są momenty, w których można poczuć się jak nad włoskim górskim jeziorem, jest wiele momentów, kiedy można poczuc się jak na Alasce czy w Nowej Zelandii. Cudo!
Obie trasy są przepiękne, są inne i jesli tylko będziecie mieli możliwosc to polecamy przejechac obie. Jesli musielibyscie wybrac jedną, to oboje z Karolem jestesmy zgodni i nam bardziej podobała się Transalpina. Może dlatego, ze widzielismy ja po raz pierwszy, a Transfogarska przez ostatnie 10 lat przejechalismy juz kilkukrotnie.

Bushcraft Trip to Romania 04/2023 part 10 - difficult train journey, overnight stay by the swamp
I moved to a place I thought might be suitable for hitchhiking. On the outskirts of the village there was a connection to the highway. The traffic was heavy but still no one stopped me. After a few hours of unnecessary waiting to hitchhike, I gave up and walked the 16 kilometres to Timișoara (Temesvár) from where I wanted to travel by train to Arad. Halfway there I took a break for food. And then a miracle happened. A young man picked me up in his car and drove me to the train station in Timișoara (Temesvár). The train journey was difficult because of the fact that there were a bunch of people sitting in the other train compartments, singing and playing guitar. It was getting on my nerves. I decided to spend the night in another place around Arad. The original place to stay when I arrived in Romania, in Arad, was far away and uncomfortable. I therefore went in a different direction. In the end it didn't turn out to be a good idea but at least I had peace and privacy. The next day I tried hitchhiking again to different places in Arad but I had no luck
Nobody stopped me. Towards the evening I decided to try one last chance to hitchhike at a gas station in a place I hadn't tried before today. And after about 30 minutes of waiting, a miracle happened. I was picked up by a young couple who were travelling all the way to Germany, via the Slovak capital Bratislava.
