In this episode we share with you possibly the most hilarious activity we HAVE EVER DONE - DRIFT ICE WALKING in hokkaido Japan. This part of Japan is the best place in the world to see Drift Ice!

How to get to Shiretoko National Park:
- JR Shiretoko Shari Station (40 kilometers southwest of the national park) is the nearest railway station to the park. It takes approx. 40 mins to reach Shiretoko Shari Station from Abashiri (one-way fare of 970 yen).
- If travelling from Sapporo via Abashiri, expect a travel time of about 6-7 hours, with an estimated cost of around 10,500 yen. You can get your JR travel pass here:
- The easiest way is by car rental, which you can pick up from the closest airport which is Memanbetsu airport.

How to get there: You can visit Abashiri as a day/overnight trip from Sapporo, the journey takes approximately 3.5 hours by train. The limited express train Okhotsk operated by JR Hokkaido connects Sapporo and Abashiri. There are also coach tours available from nearby cities. Once you arrive in Abashiri, there are also some other activities you can do like the following:
1. Take a cruise on the Abashiri Drift Ice: Embark on a unique cruise experience during winter to witness the incredible drift ice phenomenon in
2. Visit the Abashiri Prison Museum: Explore the former prison and learn about its history through interactive exhibits, including a replica of a prison cell and displays showcasing the life of inmates.
3. The Sea of Okhotsk. Admire the floating ice formations and the breathtaking views all along the coastline.
4. Explore the Abashiri Ryuhyo Museum: Discover the wonders of the region's drift ice at this museum. Learn about the science behind it, view aquariums with local marine life, and even touch real ice.
5. Walk along Abashiri Port: Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the picturesque port area. Take in the views of the Sea of Okhotsk, visit the nearby souvenir shops, and sample fresh seafood at local restaurants.

Things you should do - Exploring Kushiro, travel by train from Abashiri, Hokkaido Japan
The Senmo line connects Abashiri and Kushiro in the east of Hokkaido Japan. In this video we take a trip on the line and visit Kushiro. While many railway lines in Hokkaido run express trains, this 166km long line only runs local trains and semi-express trains, so it's a long journey. The line passes through some beautiful areas close to Lake Kussharo and the wetlands of Kushiro where the Japanese Crane can often be seen. As the line runs along the Sea of Okhotsk you can also see the Steller's Sea Eagle. You can also see the Shiretoko peninsula, home to Shiretoko National Park, one of Japan's World Heritage sites. Other notable sights are Mt. Shari and drift ice in winter.
Kushiro is an aging town in Hokkaido but it has it's charms, famous for seafood and a daily fresh seafood market. It's worth a visit once.
