Avsenik Begunje, Slovenia ~ 4K Virtual Travel
Begunje na Gorenjskem (or ''Begne'' as locals like to call it) is a village in the Upper Carniola region of Slovenia. This lovely countryside has many unique natural and cultural tourist attractions. Begunje is a home to famous Slavko Avsenik, a pioneer of popular Slovene folk music (you should check out song ''Na Golici'' or ''Slovenia odkod lepote tvoje'' if you have not heard it before and visit Avsenik inn and museum). In the center of Begunje there is a very impressive Katzenstein Mansion and gardens (first home of Lambeg Counts, later during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia used as women's prison, during the second world war used as headquarters of the N*zi german Gest*po, after the war as a Yugoslav labor camp for political prisoners...today the buildinig mostly serves as a psychiatric hospital). There is a Museum of Hostages which is preserving the memory of WW2 victims. Begunje is as well known for being the location of the headquarters of the Eline Line company (one of the world's leading ski manufacturers).
