Best JAPANESE STREET FOOD Spots in SENDAI MORNING MARKET

Book a food tour in Sendai!

“Rare” Raw Japan Food Tour in Sendai (featured on the Best Ever Food Review Show):
Sendai Winery Tour with Picnic Lunch:
Green Sendai Morning Market Tour:

On the hunt for local Sendai street food like zunda (ずんだ - edamame paste sweets) and gyutan (牛タン - beef tongue), Shizuka Anderson visits Sendai Asaichi Morning Market (仙台朝市), near Sendai Station. Contrary to its name, the Sendai morning market is open through the afternoon and early evening, offering hot and delicious Japanese street foods and warm hospitality to visitors. Filled with local mom and pop shops, Sendai Asaichi is known for tasty treats, from savory treats made with their regional Sendai miso to unexpected beef tongue dishes.

Shizuka also learns about a local “God of Fortune,” Sendai Shiro (仙台 四郎), and visits the temple where he is enshrined. Legend has it that Sendai Shiro was a kind man with an intellectual disability, who was always smiling. All of the shops where he was warmly welcomed prospered, so he was considered a good luck charm by the businesses in the area. Their prosperity is a testament to the value of kindness and hospitality, and today Sendai Shiro’s image can be seen in many restaurants in the area.

While coastal areas of Sendai suffered extensive damage from the 3/11/11 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, the warm hospitality and friendliness of the local people is leading the city towards recovery.

Why I want to go to YAMAGATA ????️⛩️ (Tohoku, Japan)

What's in Yamagata? Here's what there is to do there, around Sendai and this area of Tohoku in Japan, as well as where to stay and train passes that could save you money.

Yamagata prefecture's only a couple of hours away from Tokyo on the bullet train, so it'd be easy to spend a few days in Tokyo, then move north to Tohoku for a few days and see a different side of Japan, in the countryside and the mountains. Here's my wishlist of things I'd like to do there, including Yamadera, a temple in the mountains with a beautiful view, Ginzan Onsen, Mount Zao and its snow monsters, a wasabi farm, a sightseeing river cruise and local specialties: Yonezawa beef, cherries and soba noodles.

Sendai, Japan Day Trip!

Sendai, Japan Day Trip! We sent it to Sendai today! Just two hours north of Tokyo, you can find the city of Sendai. I was pleasantly surprised at how big it was compared to other cities in the Tohoku region. Mainly because there are many shopping malls! In today's vlog, I did some excellent shopping and found a temple in the middle of town. Sendai is very cool to see and if you're ever in the area you should definitely stop by!

Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you enjoyed the video! I'll see you in the next one!

Shizuka Anderson explores the back alleys of Sendai City’s Iroha Yokocho, joined once again by tour guide and rakugo performer, Chie Tamada.

In 1945, central Sendai was burned down in the air raids, and the following year Iroha Yokocho rose from its ashes. With a history spanning over 70 years, the yokocho (“alleyway”) epitomized Sendai’s quick recovery, the market bustling and shopkeepers hard at work all day. Today, Iroha Yokocho has over 100 bars and restaurants, the perfect place to get a bite to eat or unwind after a long day.

Japan - Yamadera temple in autumn - Tohoku journey・4K HDR

???? 10/04 3pm ????️ +10℃ ????‍♂️3km
On the 5th day of Tohoku journey, I arrived at Yamagata prefecture by JR Senzan line. Yamadera was on the same line, so it was my first stop. The weather was a bit rainy with gloomy clouds and wet rocks. It was also much colder than all the other days of the journey, though Yamagata is to the south of Aomori prefecture.
Before climbing I tried kon`nyaku on a stick. I climbed to the top shrine and climbed down. On the way to the top and from the top I found nice views all around, with red and yellow autumn leaves, now and then even red maples. On the way back I asked the vending machine for a tea and then bought rice senbei on a stick.
Found a cat checking tickets ????

Sendai is the Tohoku region's largest city and is a fun place to explore. So many nooks and crannies to explore with a marketplace that reminds me of the old Tsukiji Marketplace.
