FAQ
================================

Q: How long was the trip?
A: Around 18 days. But I would say it's doable in 2 weeks. If you want more time to explore then 3 weeks should be more than adequate.

Q: How many days do I need in each city?
A: I would say 3-5 days in Kyoto and Osaka. Nara 1-2 days. At least 4-6 days in Tokyo but the more the better.

Q: How much did it cost?
A: Excluding hotels + airplane tickets we had a budget of around 2000 USD

Q: Is there vegan restaurant options in Japan?
A: Yes, I found plenty, and most restaurants offer vegan-friendly meals

Q: Which month did you go?
A: We visited in July but I would recommend visiting in either the Autumn or Spring season

Q: Where did you stay overnight?
A: You can find links to the different accommodations above + alternatives.

Discover Oita: 15 Best locations and activities

In the south of Japan, on the island of Kyushu lies Oita prefecture. Famous for its many onsens and a thermal pool (Hell of Beppu), Oita is a unique destination. We will help you discover what we believe are the top priorities when visiting. If you love nature and history then the Kunisaki peninsula offers everything you need and more. I have such fond memories of the area and could easily see myself retiring there. But of course, Oita cannot be limited to Kunisaki. You will see in our video, it has so much to offer!

Note. If you ever visit Oita you have to have Futago-Ji Temple on your list. Make sure to book a table at the restaurant near the temple. There is only one. Order some Toriten, short for Tori Tempura, this is truly AMAZINGLY GOOD!

After the last video, Kibune, we went to Ohara, a 20-minute drive away.
Ohara is close to Kibune, and is relatively cool even in summer. It was 23 degrees Celsius at 7:30 in the morning, but it was still 27 degrees Celsius at 2:00 p.m., so I could take a leisurely stroll.
The scenery of the “satoyama”, which looks like something out of an old story, was shrouded in mist and looked fantastic.
We visited Jakkoin Temple, a place associated with the Heike clan, with its beautiful moss, and three temples at the back of Sanzenin Temple where you can relax and enjoy the garden: Jitsukoin Temple, Shorin Temple, and Hosenin Temple.
There is also a café, Kulm, where you can enjoy meals made with vegetables and natural bounties from Ohara.
Lastly, we went to Kochiya Amida Temple where many wildflowers were in bloom. We saw rare flowers such as the double-flowered lengeshoma, aconite, and white bearded grass in bloom.

Wherever you go, you will be greeted by the Shukaido. I took this photo because I thought it would be a good summer sightseeing course in Ohara, but it seemed that autumn had already started in Ohara, which is located in the northern part of Kyoto.

VLOG 3: Ohara day 2, Exploring Jakkoin and Sanzenin temples (Kyoto, Japan) 大原、京都

After staying in a traditional hot spring bath house, we left to visit nearby temples while enjoying the nature and tranquility of rural Japan.

This vlog is a second part of a two-day trip to Ohara, a small village located on the northern side of Kyoto. On the first day we hiked over Mount Konpirasan and in the evening arrived to a traditional onsen ryokan, Ohara no Sato, where we had dinner, stayed the night and of cause enjoyed a hot spring bath. This video will directly continue from where the previous one left off, so unless you are here only to see Jakkoin and Sanzenin temples I would recommend you watching first the day 1.

After we woke up, I went right away to take some videos of the garden and then we had a typical Japanese breakfast consisting of rice, miso soup, grilled fish and other side dishes. The breakfast was very plentiful and delicious. After finishing it, we took once more a hot spring bath to relax before having to leave the ryokan to explore the nearby temples and to see a bit of the Japanese countryside. The weather was nice and sunny although quite hot, but still a bit more bearable compared to central Kyoto. The first temple to visit was Jakkoin because it was located almost right next to the ryokan, in less than a minute walking distance. Jakkoin temple belongs to Tendai sect of Buddhism and is well-known for its long history, dating back to 7th century, and also for its beautiful and peaceful grounds. We spent about 45 minutes exploring and filming it before continuing to the next location, which was Sanzenin temple, the main attraction of Ohara. Sanzenin was founded by Saicho himself, the monk who introduced Tendai Buddhism to Japan after traveling to China in 804. The temple is very famous for its beautiful scenery especially when autumn colors are at their peak. There are some shops and also other temples in the area around it.

As you could probably notice, this time we were a bit in hurry and didn’t had as much time to explore and film as we would normally like to, or need to, to be able to produce full sized long vlogs. This was because we had to be in Kyoto by 2 pm and we had also to have a lunch before that. In the morning we spent almost two hours in the ryokan, which was really nice, because the filming on the previous day took a lot of strength from us, and after starting the day we had a bit over two and half hour to explore Ohara before having to get on the bus. We managed to visit both main temples of the area but we didn’t get to the waterfall as we were hoping, which is a pity because we couldn't show it to you in this vlog, but otherwise we don’t really mourn it since we will definitely be back exploring more temples and hiking in the area. The countryside of Japan certainly has something special to it. The next time is also going to be in autumn to experience the full beauty of the place, which we are also going to vlog.

Thank you very much for watching! I hope you liked the video. Please also consider subscribing because more content is on the way! You can find me also on:

Ohara, Kyoto - Waterfall《4K》- Relaxing in Japan - 京都大原の滝

《4K》10-Minute Waterfall Relaxation in Ohara, Kyoto, Japan(京都・大原)
Otonashi Waterfall (音無の滝・Otononashi-no-taki / the Soundless Falls)

About a 10 minute walk from Sanzenin Temple, Otonashi-no-taki is an attractive waterfall located in the forest behind Ohara, Kyoto, Japan. The scenery along the way definitely reminds you that you’re far into the countryside, with crumbling stairs and towering trees on either side. Upon approach you might begin to notice that the waterfall isn’t exactly quiet, despite its name. The waterfall itself is like a stream that quietly trickles down the rocks. According to legend, the sound of the waterfall was silenced by fusing with the sound of the nearby monks chanting, hence the name, Soundless (or Silent) Falls.
